I actually kind of enjoyed this race.

I didn't think this was the worst ever. It had decent moments. Yeah, the finish was anti-climactic as hell, but I'm not surprised given how, during every time these cars have been on the track, passing has been really tough.

2000 sticks out in my mind as a lot worse than this. NASCAR will probably tweak the aero package a bit to produce some more "passing" and "excitement", and then the fans will complain about that. And then NASCAR will tweak...ad infinitum.

It be fine if it's just once but three time is pretty pathetic. The first one he figured out you can't pass someone in a closing hole, second one he didn't try at all for the, and the third one finally came back to bite him in the butt as he got passed up not trying.

I'll admit, he hasn't done anything doucheworthy (is that even a word? ) in the past few years, as far as I know. But like I told Ben, that's just everyone's perception of him, with the exception of his fans, of course. The reasons are all different, from his success to how he acts, but the perception is the same. Everyone thinks that because he won the 500, he's gonna win the championship. But Kez proved that you can stand up to the might of the 48 team and win, so I think it's a little early to be giving Johnson the trophy.

I'm glad I slept in and missed 187 laps of that shit.

I push back on all broad reaching comments. It just seem that there is a concentration of Johnson hate here. If someone makes a general comment I typically expect them to back it up with examples.

Well, after recollecting my thoughts, I think I'm ready to give a better review than what I did seconds after the race.

I have to admit that I was impressed with Danica today, although the FOX crew obssessing over her didn't help much, as well as the gyro cam. The racing for the most part was terrible and Greg Biffle being himself prooved that. Hopefully, NASCAR will take something out of this race and try to do something with the cars to make the next plate track they race at more exciting. IMHO, I don't think I've seen a race that bad since I watched the fall race at Talladega back in '09. If NASCAR doesn't do anything about the racing we saw today, I don't think I'll be watching the other plate races later in the year.

I'm pretty sure they only called it a "gyro" cam because "rotating camera controlled by the booth" sounded too wordy. Plus gyroscopes sound all sciency and stuff

This race was decent at times and at others it sucked, but overall it was an okay race.

I remember 04 being pretty spread out as far as the racing went.

At least the race sin the 1980s-90 had memorable moments (The Allison 1-2) (Cope pulls an upset) (Sterling Marlin wins his first race) etc........even if they were crap. that made up for most of it.


This race really only had one minor memorable moment and that was Danica lead a lap.

Indeed unlike some.

To be honest those last five laps could of been quite interesting but regrettably we got nothing at all. Good attempt to at least try to make something happen by Earnhardt, it's understandable why he's a fan favorite. Probably about a 5/10 for this one, it had so much potential, good win for Jimmie and it was nice to see Keslowski get some points with his battered car.

The finish to the 2000 500 only sucked because it came under caution. The 2000 500 wasn't the greatest, thanks to Ford figuring out the aero package and pretty much dominating Speedweeks, but it wasn't that bad. Hell, Benson damn near won the race in an underfunded car on tires that were over 50 laps old.

"Did"? He still does. Throwing a fit on TV at Pocono two years ago, when he hit Kurt, and Kurt hit him back. He acted like Kurt pulled a gun on him. Or Atlanta last year, when he caused that three-car wreck and blamed it on Hornish in his TV interview, only to finally pull his head out of his ass, and take the blame on Twitter. Oh, and then, there was earlier this month, when he talked about being "embarrassed" by Brad's drunken post-title winning interview on SportsCenter, when his own co-owner said it was "awesome".

I don't see why we have to tear up well over half the field at the finish to make something a good race. One of the stronger cars won, and people were actually smart racing with each other. Sure it would have been nice if guys would have tried to get the low line going more early in the race but overall, a decent Daytona 500.

I just thought of something. To what degree do you think the drivers were "taking it easy" after the crash in the NNS race?

Not too much considering what we saw in the Unlimited. I think they were taking it easy because it wasn't the time to go racing until the end of the race.

I think the drivers were trying to save most of their tactics until it gets late in the race.

The race yesterday was OK. Danica did a hell of a job. JJ winning . Biffle, thats twice you didn't want to win the 500 . And the Gen 6 cars look great and sexy. On to Phoenix. Bowyer vs. Gordon Part II?
