2013 Coke Zero 400 - Nascar Sprint Cup Series - Daytona International Speedway

Last week, Matt Kenseth scored his series-leading 4th win at Kentucky, which was dominated by points leader Jimmie Johnson.

Last year in this Midsummer Classic, Tony Stewart won his 4th July race at the famed Daytona track. The last time they were there, 5 time took it to victory lane after winning the biggest race of the season, the Daytona 500. Danica Patrick started on pole and finished 8th.

Will we see a spectacular finish or an anti-climactic one? We'll find out Saturday night.



And my thought on Michael Waltrip being in this race: O_O Oh Hell!!!!!

So there may be a couple penalties announced soon, after a whopping sixteen cars did not pass inspection. All sixteen were found to have modified roof flaps. These illegal flaps were lighter than normal ones. NASCAR told the teams to change the roof flaps out, and confiscated the illegal ones. The teams involved were:

#2 Brad Keselowski
#9 Marcos Ambrose
#11 Denny Hamlin
#13 Casey Mears
#15 Clint Bowyer
#16 Greg Biffle
#17 Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
#18 Kyle Busch
#20 Matt Kenseth
#21 Trevor Bayne
#22 Joey Logano
#43 Aric Almirola
#55 Michael Waltrip
#56 Martin Truex Jr.
#99 Carl Edwards

It is important to note that NASCAR has a group that builds and supplies all roof flaps and that is Roush. Oddly enough, the teams that were caught included Roush, all other Ford teams, and a couple teams that had at least one past Roush driver in their stable.

I believe BBoy pointed this out earlier, but notice how McMurray is the only Chevy on the list.

I love how some of the forums are going about this on the internet. If it was Jimmy Johnson caught up in this, I'd guarantee you people would be screaming for a penalty

Thing is, apparently these parts aren't necessarily illegal and the teams have been using them all year. They are only not allowed to be used here because they are lighter. NASCAR has even known about them being used all year and didn't tell the teams they couldn't be used for Daytona. This is why I don't expect penalties.

I doubt any penalties come due to the quantity of teams that got in trouble.

As for the race, I thought it was a lot better than the Daytona 500, but still not too exciting. As much as I hate J.J., I don't think that wreck was all of his fault since Ambrose slightly touched him. Still, I felt like Ambrose could've won that race. JMHO.

Jimmie definitely fought for that one. When I saw the crash on the front stretch, the Kyle Larson crash appeared in my mind.

Got to admit, JJ earned it. Now he's one of my favorite drivers because he's a hardworking man to achieve anything, but they're times that he can be too much IMHO.

Tame race overall. I'll give it a 4.5/10. Better than the 500, but still not entertaining.

Fastest driver won, and it was Jimmie.

Denny Hamlin possibly for reject of the race with that one. Not only self spinning but self spinning on a straightaway, taking out 2 of my top 5 favorites (Kenseth and Gordon) in one swoop.

Only problem I have with Johnson winning is that he came down on Ambrose, forcing Ambrose into Kahne, which wrecked Kahne.
