Coke Zero 400 - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
NBC returns to broadcasting major NASCAR series after an eight-year absence. The race is on Sunday this year, thanks to the Macy's 4th of July Celebration in New York City, annually broadcast on NBC, taking precedence for the Peacock on Saturday. NBC is returning to the sport at a time when FS1's ratings have been awful. To make matters worse, they're directly competing against the Women's World Cup Final in Vancouver...which the US just advanced to, and FOX's (and FS1's) ratings for US matches have been stellar throughout the tournament.
Also, NBCSN will begin airing a post-race show titled NASCAR Victory Lap. Carolyn Manno will host; Brian Vickers is the analyst.
On the track, Joey Logano won the 500 in February. Aric Almirola won this race, thanks to rain shortening it, plus a big wreck that took out most of the field, last year, which also had to be held on Sunday...because of rain.

Let's see what they do, I think Rick Allen is a great commentator and any recent problems with him was due to him being brought down by the Michael Waltrip being dumb. But we'll see.

Re: Coke Zero 400 - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
I really want to see what NBC will do with this. I distinctly remember the last time around, NBC provided horrendous coverage of NASCAR. Mainly because of Bill Webber and Kyle Petty. I also remember NBC even back in 2006 being particularly commercial happy. Hopefully the good coverage that Indycar and even Formula One has been getting will transition over to NASCAR.
One major thing I hope NBC does, HAVE A SCROLLING TICKER... don't do the running order like Fox does it.

From what i understand it's relatively similar to the Indycar ticker.f1fan12 wrote:

Big one in practice, Kyle Busch did not hit a unprotected barrier or flipped
At least 10 cars involved.

Thoughts on practice:
Stewart-Hass top 4=at least 3 of them end up DNFing. That team is the NASCAR definition of Murphy's law.
WTF is Michael McDowell doing in 19th?

Brad is still likable, he does sometimes drive like a ass.
Still likable though!

Honestly, over the last two years, Keselowski has acted more like Kyle Busch than Kyle Busch has.Alta wrote:Brad wrecked "The Darrell Waltrip clone"Mother of Invention wrote:remember when Brad K was likeable and not some "70s era Darrell Waltrip" clone?

Is the "no pushing" rule still in effect? I'd rather have Dancing With The Cars than controlled pack racing.

I didn't have a real problem with Kyle until he just ditched his team at Texas in...2007? That was incredibly unprofessional and I lost a lot of respect for him.
His incident with Hornaday in 2010 sealed the deal for me.

I haven't disliked Busch since 2012, ever since that year he's been a lot better in terms of attitude. Marriage and having a child I think helped him turn it around. Heck maybe Samantha keeps a short leash on him or something lol.

Yeah, still no tandem (another thing i'm probably the only fan of), but both of the last two 500s were pretty good, and the last 400 was too plagued by rain to enable any assumptions about race quality.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about with Kyle ditching his team, wasn't paying attention in 2007.

Re: Coke Zero 400 - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Kyle Busch got involved in an accident at Texas, at the time he was still with Hendrick driving the #5. After it happened Busch left the track instead of sticking around to finish the race as the car was salvageable. Dale Earnhardt Jr. who I believe wrecked out earlier in the race, got in the #5 and finished the race for him.Pyrozooka0 wrote:

Stewart spun off of 4 while racing JPM for a top 10 spot (I believe 6th). As Jr was slowing in the smoke from Stewart trying to save the car, Kyle ran into him.
I have not had much of a problem with Kyle (only the Texas incident is unexcuseable which was November 2011 BTW). Most of the overall hate of Kyle though I think comes from the incident @ Richmond in May 2008. Many Jr fans still believe he did that on purpose and they don't let it go.
Re: Coke Zero 400 - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Although i was fine with the win at Sonoma i can still see why people hate him, He still has the same bitchy attitude and still likes to mop up the Nationwide guys post injury, He's pretty easy to hate.

I only liked him winning at Sonoma because Jimmie Johnson didn't.

I haven't noticed Kyle be whiny for a few years now. Sure, the Nationwide wins are annoying, but he seems to have matured up over the last few years.

Qualifying got rained out and canceled. Junior will start on the pole, based on practice times.

I think he's okay but there's a reason he's still in Nationwide. Tonight is one of those reasons.Ben Atkins wrote:Brian Scott doesn't deserve a NASCAR ride.

That race was Mid 2000's ARCA crash filled by the Xfinity guys tonight. Peeps need to get it together.

It looked to me like the first pileup was unavoidable. The second would have been fine though, if it hadn't been for Logano cutting down in front of everyone.

I liked the tandem racing. It was nice to see the drivers actually be able to set up and make passes instead of being stuck in a pack waiting around to be crashed.Pyrozooka0 wrote:Yeah, still no tandem (another thing i'm probably the only fan of), but both of the last two 500s were pretty good, and the last 400 was too plagued by rain to enable any assumptions about race quality.

HOLY SHIT!!!!! Glad Austin is alright. I thought it was 2013 all over again.
But it was a lackluster race, but Junior had the best car. A 4.0/10.

Wow, that wreck! As much crap as we give NASCAR sometimes, I am so thankful for how safe these cars are and how far we've come from a safety perspective. Dillon walking away from that crash is unbelievable. Fantastic to see. I hope no one in the stands was seriously hurt. I saw some debris fly into the stands.
And congrats to Dale Jr. I always love seeing him win at Daytona.
