Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
Burton Smith says something agreeable for the first time ever.
Burton Smith wrote:Bruton Smith Wants End to Start-and-Park:
Bruton Smith, chairman of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. told media attending the NASCAR Sprint Media Tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway that he would like to see an end to start-and-park racing, a term that refers to race teams that run only a few laps of a race in order to collect a portion of the purse, but pull off the track before causing too much wear and tear on their equipment, thereby saving on the expense of running a full race. "Start-and-park should not be a part of what we do," he said. "I think it's derogatory toward our sport. I'm going to try my best and I hope you'll join me to see if NASCAR can do something about this. It certainly isn't adding anything to our sport, and it certainly takes away." He then asked media in the room to use their influence to put an end to the practice.
Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
Oh and Jamie I only have one fan and he's British has a new sponsor for 10 races.
Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
As much as we hate them (S&P), we're going to have to deal with them for a while.. they get people employed & there aren't many sponsors willing to help them since the economy is kinda bad (But getting better)

BK Racing announces driver, crew chief and managerial roles:
BK Racing begins its second season of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing with some changes in different levels of their operation. Harry McMullen will remain in his role as the team's General Manager, which he's held since the team started January 2012. Just added to the team is Rick Carpenter, who will be the Assistant General Manager helping McMullen with the day-to-day operations. Carpenter comes from Tri Star Motorsports, most recently, and Rusty Wallace Racing, where he held the position of General Manager at both teams. He also worked at Penske Racing.
As previously announced, Mike Ford is now the team's Director of Competition. The veteran crew chief, with 21 wins and 17 poles in 453 NSCS starts, is overseeing shop and race-prep activities of BK Racing's two NSCS entries.
Doug Richert has been promoted from his role as crew chief on the #83 Burger King/Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry. The championship leader with 13 wins to his credit will now serve as a supervisor to the crew chiefs overseeing their efforts at the shop and during race days.
David Reutimann, a two-time race winner will drive the #83 Toyota this season full time. Reutimann drove in two races for the team last year. Pat Tryson, who has eight trips to Victory Lane, is now the team's crew chief. He came on board towards the end of 2012 to assist on both teams.
Travis Kvapil will remain in the #93 Burger King Toyota Camry with Todd Anderson returning as his crew chief. The 2012 season was Anderson's first in that capacity with Kvapil, the 2003 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion, who has made 210 NCSC starts.(BK Racing)(1-22-2013)
tl;dr edition: Reutimann in 83, Kvapil in 93.

At least Reutimann finally goes full-time, but I do kinda prefer Kvapil over Reutimann though.

At the helm of the #66 car will be 25 year-old Steve Wallace. Wallace, a perennial top-ten competitor in NNS competition, scored his third-straight top-ten finish in NNS points in 2011. Ashley Judd says she and Dario and separating.
At least the cameras won't constantly go to her when he's leading.
Oh, and the Nashville sports media won't exactly be crying over this, because a lot of my friends in the media here say Dario's a massive douchebag (he and Judd lived together in Franklin, about 20 minutes south of Downtown Nashville).

Believe it or not, I'm sort of happy FAS Lane put him in because we have a third contender with a team that doesn't park. He may not be the most talented fellow, and the team is slowish, but I actually have no problem with this. He could actually learn some stuff from the washed up veterans who drive the other races. I still don't expect much however.

So I'm thinking that the seven announcements that Bladwin had scheduled for each day this week is gonna end up being just how many races each sposnor has. Blaney is probably running full time in the #7, and Yeley has 13 races confirmed in the #36.

Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
As if we didn't have enough to laugh at, PETA has written a letter to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Hendrick Motorsports requesting to sponsor the #88 car for some of the races that they don't have a sponsor for yet. There's just one catch. PETA is not going to pay for it. They want Hendrick to donate the space. Guess no one over at PETA understands how NASCAR works.
Full Letter:
Speaking of stories to laugh at, this just happened.

Full Letter:
- Spoiler:
- Dear Dale,
I hope this message finds you well. You can count all of us here at PETA—the world's largest animal protection organization, with more than 3 million members and supporters—among your many fans who will be cheering you on this racing season.
I'm writing today after reading that sponsorship this season is at a low because I hope that you'll consider using the available space on your beautiful car as an opportunity to spread a lifesaving spay-and-neuter message that would spare countless dogs and cats in your home state tremendous suffering.
In North Carolina, PETA's Community Animal Project rescues local animals directly—crawling through sewers, poking through junkyards, climbing trees, dodging cars, and coaxing terrified strays to safety. We go into the very poorest of neighborhoods to deliver food, doghouses, and straw bedding to neglected animals who have never known a kind word or touch. And we don't give up. Our fieldworkers return to check on the animals and replace old bedding, check the doghouses, and make sure that the animals have food and water.
Our SNIP (Spay or Neuter Immediately, Please!) mobile veterinary clinic also provides no-cost to low-cost veterinary services in the most impoverished areas of North Carolina for families who cannot afford to have their animals fixed.
As you no doubt know, each year 6 to 8 million animals enter shelters in the U.S., and roughly half must be euthanized for lack of a good home. Others who never find a safe haven are left to roam the streets, creating even more litters, and succumb to weather extremes, disease, traffic injuries, and even abuse by cruel people. By placing a message on your car that encourages people to have their animals spayed or neutered, you would be reaching countless NASCAR fans with the lifesaving message that fixing animals helps curb the overpopulation of dogs and cats and drastically reduces suffering.
Thank you so much for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
With kind regards,
Michelle Cho
Associate Director
PETA

It's why they do anything they do: attention. PETA doesn't care about "ethical treatment of animals," they only care about sustaining themselves. They can't do that if they aren't in the spotlight.

Stewart-Haas adding test team: Stewart-Haas Racing is developing a new test team. Veteran crew chief David Hyder will oversee the project. "I'm planning on taking the wheels off of my pit box for a while," Hyder said Friday. "With the new car coming this season, they'd been talking about putting a test team together. I'm not sure what all it will entail yet, but Zippy (Stewart-Haas Racing Director of Competition Greg Zipadelli) told me to plan on going to Daytona." In the advent of the Generation 6 car, NASCAR's top organizations are doing whatever it takes to get up to speed quickly. Although SHR has a research and development group, the test team is the latest response to up the ante. Considering that SHR is expanding its two-car operation of Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman to add rookie Danica Patrick, the timing is perfect. Hyder started working at SHR on Tuesday. He most recently guided Cale Conley in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East but missed the competition at the Cup level. Hyder had previously worked as a crew chief for Wood Brothers Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing and Kevin Harvick Inc.

SR² expands with purchase of MacDonald Motorsports: Looking to improve on a successful first season, SR² Motorsports announced it has expanded its role in the Nationwide Series in its second year. The Buford, Ga.-based organization with its shop in Mooresville N.C. will field three full-time teams in 2013, including the newly-purchased Nationwide Series operation of MacDonald Motorsports. The attained new team includes cars, equipment and owner points of the former #81 team. The team will continue to further its relationship with Toyota Racing Development and enter the #00 Camry and the #24 Camry. The third car number has yet to be selected. The company is also working to finalize its driver lineup for the season and will be announced, along with sponsors, soon. SR² will race with leased engines from Pro Motor Engines. In the team's first year, SR² Motorsports entered the #24 and #00. The season was highlighted by various drivers giving the new team strong finishes and establishing its foundation in the Nationwide Series. At the end of the season, SR² Motorsports had accumulated five top-20s, three top-15s and a best start of ninth at Homestead in the season finale with Blake Koch behind the wheel. The team hopes to build off that momentum into 2013.(SR2 Motorsports)(2-4-2013)

DuPont name no longer on Gordon car:
The Carlyle Group, one of the world's largest and most successful investment firms with a portfolio of businesses that includes Hertz Rental Car, Allison Transmission and Dunkin' Donuts, announced that it has acquired DuPont's paint business. Although the people, products and technologies will remain the same, the paint business, which sponsors the #24 Chevy of Hendrick Motorsports and driver Jeff Gordon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, has been rebranded as Axalta Coating Systems. The Axalta Coating Systems name will begin appearing on the #24 team car in the second quarter of the year. In the meantime, on-car branding will include familiar automotive paint brands and products such as Standox, Spies Hecker, Imron, and CromaxPro. The Axalta Coating Systems contract with Hendrick Motorsports includes 14 primary paint schemes annually on Gordon's #24 car. It says that the #81 will run full time too, not just the #24 and #00 for SR2. Also, R3's only running part time Nationwide. Morgan Shepherd plans on running full time, but in 2012 Dodge equipment.
Oh, and in ARCA news, Milka's running full time for Venturini this year.

Chad Hackenbracht signed by TriStar: TriStar Motorsports announced the signing of former ARCA Racing Series winner Chad Hackenbracht to a driver development contract. Hackenbracht spent the 2012 season competing full-time in the ARCA Racing Series for his family owned team, CGH Motorsports. Last season, the New Philadelphia, Ohio native recorded one win, two pole positions, five top-five and 12 top-10 finishes before closing out the year fifth in the Championship Point Standings. "I am excited for the opportunity to race with TriStar Motorsports in the Nationwide Series," said Hackenbracht. "I have not run any NASCAR events and I'm excited to make my debut in the Nationwide Series with an established team. My expectations are to finish every race I run this year, qualify in the top-20 and pull off top-15 finishes." A veteran of quarter midgets and Legends Cars, Hackenbracht will continue his climb up the racing ranks by joining TriStar Motorsports. The 21-year-old driver is expected to compete in a minimum of five NASCAR Nationwide Series events for the team. His schedule will be released at a later date.(TriStar Motorsports)(2-6-2013)
