The fact that Byron can win 7 races in a season, and isn't able to go for the championship is laughable. It shows how insane this chase system really is.

Wasn't this system supposed to encourage wins above all else? Isn't that what Byron was doing all year? What a fucking joke.

This is going to go down as the year that most people who deserved to win their respective titles, didn't.
William Byron in the trucks.
Harvick (who needs to all but win Phoenix), Keselowski, and Truex in Sprint
Nationwide amazingly seems to have the only ones who are possibly worthy with a "correct" champion between Sadler, Jones or Suarez....however, this is a series I wouldn't mind seeing an upset in the name of Blake Koch....

Not to use a baseball reference, but in 2001 the Seattle Mariners won 116 games - tying the MLB record for wins.
They lost in the ALCS to the Yankees.
Point: sometimes the winningest team doesn't win the title.

On the flip side, you're comparing baseball, a stick and ball sport, and stock car racing, a motorsport. It's comparing apples to oranges.

Okay, but Matt Kenseth proved that too in 2003, starting the chase.
Byron has been the best driver in the Truck series without a doubt. The fact he won't get the credit for it in the form of a championship is pathetic.

No. Newman had tons of DNF's that year. Byron has been consistent and really only had a couple bad races, last night included.Rovenami wrote:It's more like Ryan Newman's 2003 Cup Series campaignRyanB06 wrote:Not to use a baseball reference, but in 2001 the Seattle Mariners won 116 games - tying the MLB record for wins.

Re: NASCAR @ Phoenix
I think as it stands, Sauter would be leading the truck championship entering Homestead with no chase, but Byron should be a contender.
Damn this gimmicky Chase playoff crap is boring.

Uh, yeah it is. Stick and ball sports has two teams going head-to-head with one another. Stock car racing, NASCAR in particular, has 40 teams on the track at the same time, including the ones not in the "playoff", which means that those teams can negatively affect the outcome of who makes it to the next round and who doesn't.
Apples and oranges.

Yeah Cynon, I agree. The chase system is just plain horrible. Does F1 have a playoff? Does Drag Racing? Does the WEC? Does MotoGP? No, but Brian "Braindead" France had to have drama and upsets, and a season HAS to end in a dramatic tooth and nail finale like the 2011 Championship.

NHRA actually does have a playoff system.

Re: NASCAR @ Phoenix
My question is, was Matt Kenesth's spotter asleep?!?
If I am Alex Bowman though, I would watch my back. No telling Kenesth may throw a fit and blame it all on Bowman

Regardless of what happened to Bowman, I hope he gets a decent ride next season.
I don't want him to be known as a guy who almost won Phoenix once.

Re: NASCAR @ Phoenix
So I'm gonna play devil's advocate and say:
Kyle was going to move Bowman regardless, but Bowman entered turn 1 in a way he wouldn't make it in a million years with or without contact, he spun his wheels in the start and went in too hard for my liking. Kenseth's spotter also played a integral part on ruining his chase. So go Edwards?!

Had Bowman took the corner normally, per se, Kenseth would have turned himself anyway.
Bowman was right next to the inside wall to avoid that contact. He did his part and Kenseth's spotter didn't.

Yeah, that was a mistake on Kenseth's spotter's part. Bowman may or may not have made the corner anyway, what with the contact from Busch, but there was no way they weren't gonna hit each other when Kenseth was cleared.
