NASCAR at Phoenix
This is the final race of the aforementioned Eliminator Round. It's at Phoenix International Raceway, where Kevin Harvick has won the last four races overall. So that's two spots that are going to be filled....or will it?
Jeff Gordon is still and the only driver locked in the Championship Round at Homestead-Miami next week. Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards need a win to ensure themselves a spot to run for the championship, but can also points race their way in. Joey Logano must win to have a shot at the title. Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. need to have a really good day to ensure themselves a berth to Miami.
Xfinity (Saturday) and Trucks (tonight) are also in action at the Arizona desert.

Re: NASCAR at Phoenix
On Friday night, Erik Jones lead the most laps, and Matt Crafton was the only driver to catch up to him, but was out of the race late by contact. Timothy Peters stole the win ahead of John Hunter Nemechek and John Wes Townley. Jones has 19 up Reddick and 32 up Crafton heading into next week's finale at Miami.
On Saturday, 'KYLEWINSLOL' and Chris Buescher finds himself 18 points to the good over Chase Elliott heading to next Saturday's finale at Miami.
Jimmie Johnson will start on pole for today's race with Kurt Busch joining him on the front row.

It came 3 races late, but Dale Jr. fans got their wish to see Jr. get the 3rd win of the season.

Re: NASCAR at Phoenix
Joey Logano wins all 3 in Round 2. Eliminates Dale Jr.
Hendrick Motorsports wins Round 3. Eliminates both Logano and Brad K.
Welp that happened

Garbage race. Cool Junior won but damn did the finish blow chunks.
Truex for the title tbh, would be pretty cool to see the underdog win the title.

Didn't see the race, but it was SO satisfying to know that the one to end Kevin Harvick's win streak at Phoenix was Dale Jr.
Not only that, but it was Jr.'s first ever rain-shortened win, so that's cool.

Re: NASCAR at Phoenix
Truex winning the title would be nice, the underdog winning it all, but I'm sure it won't have the feel of Kulwicki winning it all in 1992
Gordon winning the title would be nice, he rides off into the sunset with the championship, but having a chase system get him that would make that trophy lose some luster
Busch winning it all... well it would make a mockery of this chase even more
Harvick winning it all... I'll be tempted to rage quit

Re: NASCAR at Phoenix
Putting my support behind either the #78 or the #24. I just think that seeing a guy like Jeff Gordon win his 5th and final championship in his last start would be amazing. On the other hand, Furniture Row has been strong all season, a far cry from their results ten years ago or even five years ago, so seeing them win would be cool too. Also, Truex is a Jersey boy, so naturally I have to root for him. :3
Sufficed to say, shit will ensue if either Kyle Busch or Kevin Harvick win this title. Maybe it'd be fitting that either one of them win, though, given how farcical this Chase format is, never mind how this entire season has been.

Re: NASCAR at Phoenix
I'd take Kyle Busch winning... to be honest, I've not really had an issue with him being a title contender despite missing 11 races. Harvick though... suffice it to say I hope somebody puts the **** in the wall in Homestead, he more than deserves it.

Re: NASCAR at Phoenix
There are three great stories that could come out of Miami.
* Jeff Gordon wins his fifth title in his final NASCAR season.
* Kyle Busch finally gets a Sprint Cup championship despite sitting out the first part of the season with an injury
* Martin Truex Jr. wins the title for an underfunded and little known team.
So essentially, anybody but Harvick would be a great story. It'll be weird seeing Jeff Gordon drive the 24 for the last time. I've been a fan of his for most of my career, and it would be great to see Jeff go out on top.

With those stories, I have no doubt NASCAR's going to flex their favoritism muscles and Harvick's going to be the next Jimmie Johnson.

The about of people whining about the race being rain shortened is amazing. But I do love the amount of people arguing that Nascar just made up the 50% official race rule.

Re: NASCAR at Phoenix
I think the real controversy is the 20+ lap yellow, they could've got at least to 50 to go with how long they waited, After Gase was off the track there wasn't any excuse to not green flag that race.conrail1990 wrote:The about of people whining about the race being rain shortened is amazing. Race was rigged obviously for a Hendrick car to win.Alta wrote:I think the real controversy is the 20+ lap yellow, they could've got at least to 50 to go with how long they waited, After Gase was off the track there wasn't any excuse to not green flag that race.conrail1990 wrote:The about of people whining about the race being rain shortened is amazing. If NASCAR were to flex muscle, it'd would either be the 24 or the 18. Probably the 78 at a stretch because of Sherry Pollox. There isn't any real big story that NASCAR/media could milk out of Harvick winning again.
It's pretty sad that we are talking about stuff like this instead of the quality (sic) of the racing.
