Ready the Crown: King claims the pole in Lites qualifying
Justin King, back-to-back winner of the Cleveland Grand Prix in 2007 and 2008, has won the pole for the first race of the PCC Lites Series Presented by Zastava season at Las Vegas with a time of 49.649 seconds, with an average speed of 108.764 miles per hour. King was nearly a tenth of a second ahead of the next car driven by Johnson Racing development drivers Dustin Oliver and Sam Burkhart, with Syzygy Engineering driver Jeff Fisher sandwiched in-between Oliver and Burkhart. Lambert Motorsports' 3rd driver Zach Meyer rounded out the top-5. Thirty-four of the 36 cars that qualified were within a second of the pole time set by King, with only Josiah Hofacker and Matt Tauger over one second slower than the pole time.
Cup:
James Hewitt takes surpise pole position at Surfer's Paradise
In a stunning upset, James Hewitt, driver of the #155 Drive to End My Life STS Arrow fielded by Team Ben Atkins, took the pole by 5 one-hundredths of a second over the heavily-favored 2012 Cup Series champion Nicholas Korodovos in the Gold Coast. Ike Durbin in his new #2 for Manticore Engineering took 3rd place, six-tenths of a second behind Korodovos, with Ramsey Coqinner and Ian Elias rounding out the top-five. The only incident in qualifying was a spin by Barney Ward through the Esses, and while he was able to finish his qualifying lap he will start shotgun on the field in 42nd place.
