Sadly, Jeb has no sponsorship and will not return to Thorsport or even trucks sadly....
Also think that the 13 may close shop if they have no driver.
ALSO : Trevor Bayne has been rejected as a rookie, so at this moment, no RotY contenders...

Two news articles for today.
- Elton Sawyer named the new director of competition in the Truck Series. Chad Little moving to an inspection/officiating role. *Likely because Little's son Jesse wants to run truck races, so they don't want Jesse to have a unfair advantage.
- Jeffery Earnhardt will be joining VISTA Motorsports #55 entry, in a full-time effort.

David Starr to drive full-time for TriStar: TriStar Motorsports announced that NASCAR veteran David Starr has signed a multi-year agreement to pilot the #44 Toyota Camry full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series over the next three seasons with Zachry Group as the primary sponsor. "Words cannot express how excited I am to partner up with Zachry Group for the next three seasons in the NASCAR XFINITY Series," said David Starr. "It will be an honor and privilege to represent a company with such integrity and commitment to their customers, employees and communities where we work." Widely known and respected throughout the NASCAR garage, Starr ranks third on the all-time career start list in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with more than 315 races. Starr ran 13 races with TriStar Motorsports in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2014, capturing one top-10, three top-15's and 11 top-25 finishes. This will be Starr's first year competing full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.(TriStar Motorsports)(2-3-2015)
David Starr... alrighty then. You give the best TriStar car to him.... Would've gave it to someone like Jeb Burton, who's out of a ride.

Tony Stewart took to the airwaves Tuesday night on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, discussing a variety of topics, including his thoughts on group qualifying at restrictor-plate tracks, his future as a sprint car driver, a rule change for the Camping World Truck race at Eldora and why his pet pig is called Pork Chop.
Stewart shared some news on his show about the Eldora Truck race. Last year, 20 Trucks in the 30-Truck field were locked in. That won’t be the case this year. It was revealed on the show only five Trucks will be locked in this year.
“With only five locked-in positions, there’s a good opportunity to have more entries than we’ve ever had, if Trucks are available, because guys know they legitimately can race their way in much easier than they what they did the last two years.’’

Been told Brian Scott will now run No. 62 for #Daytona500 for Jay Robinson Racing. Slugger Labbe will crew chief No Sprint Unlimited #NASCAR
as an addendum to this post, this news just dropped right after I posted this: http://www.speedwaydigest.com/index.php/news/sprint-cup-series-news/21863-premium-motorsports-purchases-the-36-nascar-sprint-cup-series-team-from-tbr
Premium Motorsports will run the #62 team (renumbered from #36) full-time alongside the #66 car. The #62 car will be a Chevrolet for the 500, but it appears that the #66 being piloted by Mike Wallace will be a Toyota.

Johnny Sauter to drive for BK Racing at Daytona: Johnny Sauter hopes to compete in the Great American Race - but he has to qualify first. It's nice to see Martin becoming involved in a series like the Late Model Dirt Series, and especially with someone with a résumé like Scott Bloomquist's! I hope that he'll enjoy it, especially with the series visiting Batesville twice this year.jayski.com wrote:Mark Martin no longer working with Roush Fenway
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran Mark Martin, who was hired last July as a driver development coach for Roush Fenway Racing, is no longer with the organization. Asked Friday on Twitter if he would be working with RFR's crop of young drivers in the upcoming season, Martin responded, simply, "No." Martin, who drove for Roush Fenway from 1988-2006 -- the vast majority of his Sprint Cup career -- said at the time of his hiring as a driver development coach that he was happy to be reuniting with the organization where he earned 35 of his 40 career Sprint Cup wins. It was announced in mid-January that Martin, 56, has joined forces with late model dirt-racing legend Scott Bloomquist to field two entries in the Lucas Oil Late Model Championship in 2015. Bloomquist and up-and-coming driver Jared Landers will drive the two team cars, respectively, with both carrying sponsorship from Batesville, Ark.-based Mark Martin Automotive Group. The coming season will also see triple the television exposure from previous years for the stars and cars of the exciting Whelen Modified Tours, NASCAR's only open-wheeled division, which competes at historic short tracks from New Hampshire to North Carolina. A total of 14 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour events are included on this season's schedule. NBCSN's inaugural touring series event is the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season-opener at famed Florida short-track New Smyrna Speedway. The New Smyrna 150 will be contested on Feb. 15 and will air four days later on Feb. 19 on NBCSN. Johnny Sauter will run a limited schedule, I've heard. Matt DiBenedetto will apparently run a 4th BK Racing car (except at Daytona(?)) when Sauter is in the #83, so sounds like Jeb Burton might have some RotY competition. Gibbs also supposedly recommended DiBenedetto to BK Racing, so good guy Gibbs?

It amazes me that for most of 2013 and 2014, the Cup Series has struggled with having more than 43 cars enter a race. Guess that's all changing now and I like it.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into 2009 when we started off with 50 cars per race and barely made 43 per race by time the season dwindled down.

Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
NASCAR announced on Wednesday that it will update the procedure for this week's NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series qualifying at Daytona International Speedway. "We continue to work in collaboration with the industry to implement the most exciting and competitive qualifying format, especially as it relates to Superspeedways," NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O'Donnell said. " As a result, we have made a few adjustments to the format for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series events later this week at Daytona. We will continue to review the qualifying format for future Superspeedway events."
For Camping World Truck Keystone Light Pole Qualifying (Friday, 4:45pm/et, FOX Sports 1) and XFINITY Coors Light Pole Qualifying (Saturday, 12:15pm/et, FOX Sports 1), the field will be broken into four groups with a quarter of the field in each group.
In Round 1, groups will be set based on a random draw. Each group will be staged by NASCAR officials at the exit of pit road, and each vehicle must have its left-side tires on the outside line of a pit boxes. The vehicles will be staged with adequate spacing between vehicles to allow each driver the opportunity to roll off of pit road at his or her discretion. Once the vehicle starts rolling, it cannot stop. It must proceed to the track. The vehicles may go one at a time or in a group, but they must keep rolling once they start.
Each group will have two minutes and 30 seconds -- half the previous allotted time -- to complete a lap. There will be a three-minute break between each of the four groups in Round 1 and then a 10-minute break between Rounds 1 and 2. The fastest 24 times advance to Round 2.
In Round 2, the 12 odd-ranked vehicles (fastest to slowest) in Round 1 will be in the first group, and the 12 even-ranked vehicles (fastest to slowest) in Round 1 will be in the second group. The staging process will be the same, and each group will have two minutes and 30 seconds to complete a lap with a three-minute break between groups. After a 10-minute break, the top 12 advance to Round 3.
In Round 3, the top 12 vehicles will have two minutes and 30 seconds to complete a lap.
All other qualifying rules will apply with normal cooling procedures and the lineup set per the rule book.
The rules update comes three days after Daytona 500 qualifying, which saw a wreck in Round 1 and drivers waiting until the last possible second to cross the start/finish line to complete a lap. On Sunday, Jeff Gordon, the last driver to cross the under the flagstand before the red and black flags waved in the final round, won the Coors Light Pole for the Great American Race.(NASCAR)(2-18-2015)
Oh boy.

Nascar changed their chase rules, as in if you do qualify.... you have to start the event, making the Indy500/Coke600 double more concerning! Absolutely disgusting!

Qualifying changes sound good in theory. Now we'll just have to see if they work in practice. Good to see they clarified the Chase stuff too, I guess.

No sober man would make rules like this. Ok, maybe Bernie, but he's probably senile.

Maybe it's just me but i think people are looking a tad too much into this. As far as i know there is still a good timeframe between the 500 and the 600.Lucstar88 wrote:http://www.motorsport.com/nascar-cup/news/nascar-clarifies-chase-eligibility

Really? I don't find it that unreasonable...if you want to run the double, you run the risk of not making the show. That's something drivers need to consider. As fun as it is watching guys do the double, their NASCAR Sprint Cup season should be their #1 priority. It's up to them to assess the risk and see if it's worth taking.
If you're serious about attempting to win the championship, you should be running every race you qualify for. That's really a no-brainer...
Besides, if a driver has to sit out for a legitimate medical reason, they can still attempt to get a waiver from NASCAR.

It just feels like NASCAR is pressuring them not to.... they shouldn't decide, that should belongs to the team owner / driver. Feels like NASCAR doesn't want them there... maybe because they're scared of Indycar... imho
Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
NASCAR has no reason to be scared of IndyCar.

So, apparently Erik Jones is in the running to sub for Kyle Busch until his leg heals.

That's odd considering Jones was deemed to replace Busch in the 500 but NASCAR overrode it and said no.

18 years old rule. Drivers under 18/with 18 can't drive on superspeedways.
Edit: could be also, because it is the Daytona 500 and Erik is 18.

According to @jeff_gluck and MRN, Regan Smith will be in the 41 at Atlanta, but no driver has been set for Vegas and beyond...

IndyCar released a statement on the Kurt Busch incident:
Translation: He's your problem NASCAR.
IndyCar wrote:"IndyCar has not received an application for membership from Kurt Busch, and have no indication that he intends to apply. The series takes domestic violence very seriously, and its rules (including Rule 2.11.3) provide the basis of authority to address personal conduct. IndyCar is monitoring this situation as it evolves. We will act firmly and strongly in responding to all matters of domestic violence."

Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
He couldn't do it because debutantes who have not practice a Cup car during an official race weekend can not sub in during a race weekend. Even though Crafton was making his debut, he has done practice and qualifying before, he DNQ his only attempt at a race (2014 Brickyard 400).bsoyuz wrote:Memoriesallbutdone wrote:RetrogradeRenegade wrote:So, apparently Erik Jones is in the running to sub for Kyle Busch until his leg heals.

Brace yourselves: strong rumors are the interim driver of the 18 will be......
DAVID RAGAN.
Which means two things: 1) FRM needs a new driver for the 34, and 2) Warm up your "fastest in practice" jokes!

Wait a minute, I'm pretty sure David Ragan is still under contract with Front Row Motorsports. I don't believe FRM would choose to release him under these circumstances.
Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread
Another potential big candidate for replacing Kyle in the 18 is Bobby Labonte, after a twitter conversation with Dale Jr., which Interstate Batteries even responded to.

I honestly don't think it would be the best idea. I know Labonte won the 2000 title in the 18 and has had lots of other success in that car along the way, but he's on the road to retirement at the moment.
