Red Horse Racing suspending #7 team operations: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team Red Horse Racing announced that to focus on the championship efforts with the #17 and #77 Toyota Tundra teams, it will suspend operations of the unfunded #7 entry. Timothy Peters and Germán Quiroga currently rank second and third, respectively, in the Camping World Series driver championship point standings. Quiroga is the only driver in the series to have finished in the top 10 in every event of the 2014 season. "We have been a competitive fixture for nine years in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and in order to remain so, sometimes requires difficult decisions to be made," said team owner Tom DeLoach. "Brian Ickler is a very talented driver and an upstanding young man, and we will continue to search for sponsorship opportunities for him. He did a great job for us at Red Horse Racing. Unfortunately, the funding for that team was only through the race at Charlotte (Motor Speedway). We are a family at Red Horse Racing, and have always prided ourselves on that. To restructure is not an easy thing to do. I am very proud of everyone who has been a part of Red Horse Racing, and we will continue to remain focused on the big picture and our goal of winning a championship title."(Red Horse Racing)(5-20-2014)

Brian Ickler lacks a ride now....

Remember John King? Won Daytona (under some not-so-pretty circumstances), gets 9th at Martinsville, then gets dumped for having finishes of 13th and 33rd (twice). So does this surprise me? Not at all.

I somewhat feel bad for Ickler, but yet again, his best finish this season is 11th and the rest of his finishes have been 27th or lower but this goes to show that taking off two years and returning doesn't always work as expected.

Dogecoin and reddit to sponsor the #98 and Wise at Talladega: One week after voting NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Josh Wise and the #98 Phil Parsons Racing team into the All-Star Race, the Dogecoin and reddit communities kicked off another collective effort in support of Wise's NASCAR team. This time, the group focused on primary sponsorship for a second Sprint Cup Series race. With their fundraising goals met in less than a week, Dogecoin and reddit will again sponsor Wise's #98 Ford Fusion at Talladega Superspeedway on October 19. With widespread demand for the Dogecoin shirts worn by the Phil Parsons Racing team throughout the Talladega Superspeedway and Sprint All-Star race weekends, the team agreed to not only produce similar t-shirts, but also to utilize the proceeds of the sales for another primary race sponsorship. Needing to sell at least 5,000 t-shirts, they were able to meet their goal within just six days to confirm sponsorship for the Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway later this year. Earlier this year, reddit user and tech fan Denis Pavel noticed a plain black car with a driver he felt 'raced the wheels off the car' during a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The lack of sponsorship caused Pavel to think of some of the significant fundraisers that he's witnessed on the reddit platform, and drove the 16-year-old to utilize the Dogecoin currency to raise sponsorship funds for Wise. Setting and exceeding their goal within the opening week, Dogecoin and reddit partnered with Phil Parsons Racing for the May race at Talladega Superspeedway.(Phil Parsons Racing)(5-22-2014)

Dogecoin is also currently in discussions to cosponsor Lee Holdsworth in the upcoming V8SC race at Darwin.

If you would have told me one year ago that a reddit-based crowd funding effort would fund HP Racing to the point where they could run full races AND get the team in the All Star Race I'd would never have believed you.

I heard that Bullit Liner's sponsorship was only through Charrlotte. That's probably part of it.

I can finally root for Bayne as a Cup driver, now! Very Happy That #6 car was all that I rooted for from when I was old enough to remember to when Martin left Roush. Since then, only Ragan and Stenhouse have driven it, so it's awesome to hear that someone like Bayne will be racing with it! And after so many sponsorship problems for Rousch in the Nationwide series, it's great to know that Advocare will be with him for the whole year.

The cars Habul ran in the last two years were actually Gibbs cars, so I can see where the connection is.

So... If Busch loses both, DOES THAT MEAN HE WON'T RACE NATIONWIDE BECAUSE OF IT!!!

Or sadly, Gibbs is going to tell Edwards to run the 54 next year.

Don't have time to make a race thread, but the Daytona cup entry list is out. Joe Nemechek is not in his 87, but in the #29 for RAB Racing. Meanwhile, Bobby Labonte is driving for Circle Sport... Is he seriously going to continue to follow in Terry's footsteps? Also, still no Randy Humphrey or XXXtreme.

You know, we call Bobby Labonte the "race car driver that will never retire,"...when can we make that TWO race car drivers that will never retire? I seriously thought that Terry Labonte retired in 2006, but he's still running races.

People hate on Mark Martin because he didn't actually stay committed to it when he said he was going to retire in 2005, but at least by now he's actually stopped running races. Not the Labonte brothers, though.

Chase Elliott's crew chief Greg Ives, will be Dale's Crew chief in 2015 replacing the departing Steve Letarte

Greg Ives named crew chief for Earnhardt, Jr. in 2015: Crew chief Greg Ives will rejoin Hendrick Motorsports following the 2014 NASCAR season to lead the #88 Sprint Cup Series team of driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Ives, 34, was race engineer for Jimmie Johnson's historic run of five consecutive Sprint Cup championships (2006-2010) with the #48 Hendrick Motorsports team. He will work alongside Johnson's crew chief, Chad Knaus, in the shop shared by the #48 and 88 Chevy SS teams.
"Greg was our number-one choice," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. "This is a talented guy who already has a terrific rapport with Dale Jr. and is a fit with the organization. He and Chad had a lot of success together, and all of our crew chiefs think the world of him and what he's accomplished. Greg's proven that he can win races, and he has all the tools to do big things."
Since his debut as a crew chief for JR Motorsports in 2013, Ives has won five NASCAR Nationwide Series races including three this season with rookie and current points leader Chase Elliott.
A native of Bark River, Michigan, and graduate of Michigan Technological University, Ives joined Hendrick Motorsports as a mechanic in 2004 before moving into an engineering role on the #48 team in 2006. In seven years working with Knaus, he contributed to 42 wins, 113 top-five finishes and 21 pole positions in the Sprint Cup Series. In November 2012, Ives transitioned to JR Motorsports as crew chief for driver Regan Smith. The duo won two races and finished third in points in 2013 before Ives was named Elliott's crew chief prior to this season. JR Motorsports works closely with Hendrick Motorsports and is owned by Earnhardt in partnership with Rick Hendrick.(HMS)(7-30-2014)

Very Happy This is awesome news for me to hear! It almost seems that Roush is where Mark belongs, and with Bayne driving the #6 car next year, he will have a great coach to work with!

More than ever, I really hope that Roush can get his team back to running as well as they have during the previous 10 years soon, as I really hope that Bayne can be successful there. I think that the last few years should have seen Kenseth, Edwards, and Biffle win a lot more often than they did.

Oh no.

Milka Duno to run some races for RAB: RAB Racing has signed multiple race-winning driver Milka Duno to compete in select races in the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series and with the entry Duno will become the first Hispanic female driver in history to compete in a NASCAR national series in the United States. A successful driver who has competed in multiple racing series Duno has eight major race wins in the highest classes (Prototype) in the American Le Mans Series and the Grand American Rolex Series and the highest finish ever by a female driver (2nd place) in the 24 Hours at Daytona - in the now 52-year history of the race. In making her transition to stock car racing and her ultimate entry into NASCAR Duno has been competing in the ARCA Racing Series for the past three seasons. In 2011 and 2012 she competed in partial schedules and in her first full ARCA season in 2013, competing with Venturini Motorsports, she finished the season 7th in the driver point standings and became the 2nd highest finishing female driver in ARCA's now 62-year history. Veteran crew chief Chris Rice will helm Duno's NNS effort.(Duno PR), no word on how many races she will run or where.(8-4-2014)

No doubt the NASCAR media people will spin this as a sign that NASCAR is getting IndyCar drivers without mentioning that Duno was more or less kicked out of IndyCar.

National Guard is leaving motorsports after this year. Leaving Graham and Dale Jr without a major
sponsorship for 2015.

Dale is most likely going to get more sponsorship = Dale
Rahal = maybe not

JTG Daugherty Racing announced on Friday morning that the Kimberly-Clark Corporation has extended their sponsorship of AJ Allmendinger and the No. 47 Chevrolet SS through the 2017 season.

If you’re not familiar with the name, Kimberly-Clark is the parent brand of SCOTT, Viva, Kleenex, Cottonelle and Huggies.

“We’re happy Kimberly-Clark Corporation has extended our partnership through 2017,” JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said via press release. “This company has been with us for five years now. We have worked hard to align ourselves with their corporate values and business objectives.  We are excited that they saw a positive return on investment and chose to continue to invest in the sport with JTG Daugherty Racing.”

“I like their philosophy and they are a good fit for our JTG Daugherty Racing family,” Allmendinger said, also via press release. “I’m also looking forward to seeing how they continue to activate in our sport. They are an awesome company that I’m proud to represent and look forward to doing so for years to come.”

Allmendinger is currently 26th in points, with one Top 5, and three Top 10’s.

EDIT : Drive to End Hunger returns as Gordon sponsor next season

Hendrick Motorsports announced this morning that AARP’s Drive to End Hunger campaign will return as Jeff Gordon’s sponsor next year.

The social cause will sponsor Gordon for 13 primary races in 2015 including the Daytona 500, and serve as associate sponsor for the remaining races.

Gordon is currently the leader of the Sprint Cup Series point standings, winning 2 races so far this season at Kansas and Indianapolis. He’s also picked up seven Top 5’s and fifteen Top 10’s in the process.

This is the 5th consecutive year that AARP will be a primary sponsor for Gordon. Drive to End Hunger aims to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger among those 50 and older, and to provide short- and long-term solutions to older adult hunger.

NASCAR could consider rule to prevent drivers from getting out of cars: Kevin Ward Jr.'s death occurred in a sprint car race, but its implications could reach Sprint Cup - not only because the fatality involved a car driven by Tony Stewart. When NASCAR officials hold their weekly competition meeting Tuesday, it's likely they will discuss the circumstances that allowed Ward to exit his cockpit and angrily scramble down the banking to confront Stewart under a yellow flag at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Ward's death has prompted suggestions that rules are needed that keep drivers in their cars under caution until safety personnel arrive. At least two dirt tracks in New York made changes Monday as Brewerton Speedway and Fulton Speedway announced in a website release that drivers would be required to stay in their cars during an accident. If a driver were to exit the car during a yellow, the race would be placed under a red flag, and the penalty could include a fine or suspension. There is precedent for deaths in other series being the impetus for immediate changes in NASCAR. "We always have discussions to become better," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp told USA TODAY Sports. "NASCAR has a history of looking at situations, and we're not afraid to react to them."(USA Today)(8-12-2014)
