He wasn't trying to win it. Staying out put him in front of the whole field for that entire yellow flag period, and you know that made the sponsors happy. It also gave him a massive head start against the drivers he's normally competing with, which allowed him a chance to hold on for a higher-than-average finish. It was a go-for-broke move (he finished 25th, so whether or not it worked is up for debate) but it was definitely not a call without merit.

That was such an awesome race. The best race of the year so far. Lots of passing, unusual moments, and I thought Kyle Larson was gonna get the weekend sweep. I'll give this race a 9.0/10.

Wow.
What a freaking breath of fresh air this race was. It seemed from start to finish, we had great battles for the lead and in the midfield. This is the kind of NASCAR we want to see every week.
Honestly thought that when Johnson started pulling away, it was going to completely ruin the finish of this race, which would've been a real shame, but then, fate decided say," Fuck that noise. This is a great race. We're doing something different for once." And Johnson, loses a left front tire.
WAT
And holy crap, what a finish, with Cassill deciding to stay out (and finishing a lap down despite leading on the last restart lol) and a tremendous fight for the win between Stewart, the Busch brothers, and Kyle Larson. And how about Larson going for it on the last lap? That guy's gonna be a big star in Cup one day.
This is the first time in a long while that we finally got the total package. Great racing throughout, and a kick-ass finish. Despite the fact it was Kyle Busch, he had to earn it today.
I can't believe I'm gonna award this rating for California, of all tracks, but the 2014 Auto Club 400 gets a very impressive 9.0/10, and I think this is the first time since I started rating races that I've given a Sprint Cup race a rating of a 9 or above. Very entertained by what I saw today, and honest to God, I hope this keeps up, because IndyCar is right around the corner, so getting good racing from both NASCAR and IndyCar would make me very happy indeed.
Awesome stuff. I still hate what NASCAR did to the Chase, but this will help me forget about it for the time being.
IndyCar's magic rubbed off on it.

Last year's was amazing, too. Must be that magical fairy dust that the DW12 puts down to make sure every track it touches has amazing racing.

Just incredible, the show was unreal today, like no other. I earn great respect to all drivers who put on one hell of a show (yes that includes Kyle Busch too, but for this reason) and the fact that it was the most competitive non-SS race I've seen in a while.

They kept all the Indydust for themselves. It's the only way to explain 68 lead changes.

This race just two short years ago got a 1.5/10 from me, it was so shitty, then last year it got a 6.5/10, and now this year, a 9.0/10.
This has got to be one of the most incredible turnarounds I've seen a track do.

And i believe that's hell freezing over, Fontana had pretty awesome race for once. Lots of passing, tires kept everyone on their toes and it was just fun to watch in general with a good finish.

Check out some of the NASCAR forums and threads. There are some going about thinking Bowyer and MWR are up to funny business and that.
Thank god I have given no damns about how some "fans" react a long time ago

Denny Hamlin has been released from the hospital after a series of tests were done to determine the cause of his vision problems. He will continue to be evaluated later this week. According to crew chief Darian Grubb, Hamlin had a CT scan done along with other tests, but they will not know the results for a few days.

I've heard that NASCAR decided to allow teams to run up to 3 degrees of rear camber on the car, which could be why these tire issues were occurring. It also doesn't help the track is damn bumpy and are going 200+ MPH. Damn, I really need to find the full race somewhere online and watch it.

That final seconds of that long run before Bowyers's spin was hilarious. Everytime the camera moved another tire went poof.
