Re: 2013 Federated Auto Parts 400 - Sprint Cup Series
Ok, time for my 2 cents (throws 2 pennies).
First, nice job by Edwards from 26th on the grid to the win. Menard, as everyone has already stated, just messed up the start.
Second, Bowyer. If Bowyer did spin out on purpose, here's something to think about. Not only did he help Truex, he helped Logano. Had Logano stayed in 25th. Gordon would've been in by 2 points. Logano gained 3 spots as a result of Bowyer's deal. So Gordon didn't screw up. Logano gained the spots he needed at the end.
Third, Kurt Busch is without a doubt a legitimate threat to win the championship. If that team can run like they did tonight, watch out.

If what did happen was team orders, I'm not really that upset by it. I mainly just used this situation as an excuse for posting that Ghost tinfoil hat picture.

I highly doubt Bowyer spun on purpose, not sure if you were implying it, otherwise I agree. As much as I dislike Kurt, I am beyond impressed with his performance this year.day500champ1 wrote:Ok, time for my 2 cents (throws 2 pennies). Â

Besides, I'd rather want Bowyer and Truex in the chase than Gordon, Bowyer has the chance to win the championship with no wins and Truex is showing the talent he has had in 2007 and 2008. Gordon on the other hand is on the downswing of his career.

Re: 2013 Federated Auto Parts 400 - Sprint Cup Series
Bowyer had said his car was handling bad, and it was kinda showing. He had fallen back quite a bit since earlier in that run, and there is no way in hell he would have known Truex woulda made it in based on him spinning. I guess it's possible, but I would argue against it.
Onto the restart thing, it was a mistake by Nascar. Menard, from what I saw, didn't spin the tires. No, he didn't get a great restart, but he didn't really mess up either. From my POV. On the other hand, he was horrible through one and two, and probably would have lost the lead anyway, had Carl not already had him cleared at the line. I think the 99 would have won anyways.
Now going into the Chase. Who do I think are the favorites? Right now, I would say there is no favorite. Edwards has momentum on his side, but I don't see him as someone who can step it up and win races when needed, mostly because the Fords have seemed to be a little down on power compared to the rest. Johnson has to have the worst momentum right now, but we all know how he is. I'm waiting to see how the Gibbs duo, Bowyer, Kahne, and Kurt perform at Chicago, and of course you can never count out Jimmie.

Just saw the replay on TV. If NASCAR doesn't do anything to MWR, then I suggest any team do whatever they please, because THAT was an intentional spin.

Everything about what MWR/Bowyer did, from the radio transmissions, to the 15 mysteriously losing 2 laps despite no damage and the 55 driving the final green flag run 40mph slower than everyone else, was done in order to ensure that Truex got into the chase, at the expense of Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon. Bowyer and Vickers losing those spots bumped Logano high enough ahead to bump Gordon to 11th, ensuring Joey wouldn't take the Wild Card.
It was blatant. It was deliberate. And it worked.

I'm entirely convinced it was an innocent self-spin that caused the caution to come out at a bad time, I don't think they take a chance with a screwjob if there was the possibility Truex would screw up which could of happened twice in this case.Cardinals5 wrote:Are you trolling or are you intentionally not seeing what's blatantly obvious?Alta wrote:Because self-spins never happen. You guys are stealing my rigged gimmick. Stop it.
I loved the fact that Gordon got knocked out the Chase by Joey FUCKINGÂ Logano. And who cares if Newman lost a Chase spot. He would of finished 12th anyway. Now my attention goes from Ambrose to Harvick.

Re: 2013 Federated Auto Parts 400 - Sprint Cup Series
Radio conversations from Vickers' team and Bowyer making an uncharacteristic mistake along with Waltrip's and Bowyer's odd answers pretty much prove that it was more than just a selfspin. They definitely did it on purpose but everything is said and done and the past can't be changed. Being a Gordon fan, I felt much worse for Newman who was gonna drive his way into the Chase with a great drive. NASCAR won't do anything, and they probably shouldn't, but it was intentional.navycook75 wrote:I never knew a selfspin could cause this much chaos.

Just saying.
That's just me, though.
I commend the people earlier in this thread that responded to those in with good humor, really, I do.
Honestly, on the whole Bowyer deal, I think that both sides have a valid argument. It's entirely possible that it was just a silly selfspin, but on the other hand, it's also possible that the spin was deliberate, due to the radio transmissions and the fact that it helped Truex get in the Chase.
Will NASCAR do anything about it? Probably not.

See, my whole thinking on MWR telling Bowyer to spin to help Truex goes thusly. If there was no yellow, Truex had no chance of making it into the Chase. Yes, even if you bring out a yellow, there's still a really good chance he won't make it in, but at least MWR gave themselves a chance to get Truex in. They took a huge roll of the dice and got lucky.
If you're a team owner, and your options are having only one car in the Chase, or taking a risk to get two in, which would you pick? For me, that's an easy decision, the consequences be damned.

Clint Bowyer for buzzkill of the weekend.
I do feel bad for Newman and Gordon though. At least we get free Bloomin' Onions tomorrow.

In addition, Keselowski's out. The only things I have to look forward to for the next 2 months are the Nationwide and Truck championship battles, ones that have been fairly close in recent years despite not having a pointless points reset!!!
