Re: 2012 Brickyard 400 - Sprint Cup Series
Just a Reminder/warning
Sprint Cup Racing Coming to ESPN for Second Half of Season: The Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, one of the premier events in NASCAR, will be the launching point for ESPN's live, flag-to-flag telecasts of the final 17 races of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season on Sunday, July 29.
ESPN's multimedia platforms will surround the race telecasts on television, radio, online and on mobile devices. Of the 17 races, 14 will air on ESPN and WatchESPN and three Saturday night events will air on ABC, and ESPN's flagship news and information program SportsCenter will follow the 14 ESPN race telecasts with additional post-race interviews, highlights and information.
Beginning Sept. 16 at Chicagoland Speedway, the final 10 races will comprise the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, NASCAR's playoffs, culminating Nov. 18 at Homestead-Miami Speedway with the crowning of the series champion.
For the 10 races in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, ESPN will again utilize NASCAR NonStop, a split-screen commercial format that brings more racing action to viewers. The format, which ESPN used for the first time in 2011, shows the advertisement on the left side of the screen and a continuation of racing action on the right side. ESPN's scoring ticker continues to move across the top of the screen, allowing NASCAR fans to follow the running order of the race during the breaks. NASCAR NonStop takes effect at or near the halfway point of the race, with the first half of the race presented in the traditional commercial break format.
ESPN's NASCAR Sprint Cup coverage team will include four former NASCAR Sprint Cup champions, led by analyst Dale Jarrett, the 1999 driving champion, who will work with two-time champion crew chief Andy Petree and lap-by-lap announcer Allen Bestwick in the booth. Rusty Wallace, the 1989 driving champion, and three-time champion crew chief Ray Evernham will be analysts for NASCAR Countdown with host Nicole Briscoe and analyst Brad Daugherty, a NASCAR team owner.
Pit reporters during ESPN's 17-race NASCAR Sprint Cup coverage will be Dave Burns, Jamie Little, Mike Massaro, Dr. Jerry Punch, Shannon Spake and Vince Welch while Marty Reid will be the lap-by-lap announcer for the remainder of ESPN's NASCAR Nationwide Series race telecasts beginning with Indianapolis.(ESPN)(7-23-2012)

MSRP trash, which then became Prism trash, which then split up and became Phil Parsons Racing and Humphrey-Smith trash with the Tri-Star team. That's why they've been using the #19 so far.

Here's today's race in short: Kurt Busch: Radio Sweetheart, Dale Jr. points leader, Logano being himself, and Jimmie Johnson winning.

Missed most of the race so I can't say I saw everything. However, I was able to see the wreck with Logano and Kenseth, some people think Logano is "Screwing" other drivers again (not just here) but from what I saw, Someone got to the outside of Logano and took the air off the car, Labonte has no where to go so he hits him, then sends Logano back up the track into Kenseth.
Exactly how many empty seats and where? If its as bad as you say it is, I don't have much good feelings about Nascar coming back to Indy.

There was nobody sitting in the seats from Turn 1 down to 2, and only a few in the seats from 3 to 4. Pretty much everybody who was there was seated on the frontstraight.

From what I could tell, the most populated area was around turn four, the front stretch and turn one had small, scattered patches of fans on either side, and the backstretch was an outright ghost town. All that was missing was a lone tumbleweed rolling by.

The attendance was pretty saddening. Perhaps some of the NASCAR tracks should follow the example of how Michael Andretti boosted attendance at Milwaukee this year for the IndyCar race.

I hope the population on NASCAR ain't decreasing each year, because if it is then I think it's due to the poor races we've seen this year.

No, it's a combination of a lot of things I think. TV Ratings have gone up and down, but a lot of the tracks are in the middle of nowhere, and gas, hotel, and ticket prices are out of the range of some people. Not to mention that the tracks with multiple dates don't have great attendance, so instead of having one date with X number of people there they have half of X (or less) number of people there.
Darlington lost one of its race dates. It became a night race and the Southern 500 again, and attendance went up.
I also forgot to mention this in my original post but I actually fell asleep with 15 laps to go and woke up to the sound of Ricky Craven on Sportscenter telling me Jimmie won. Ah well.

I see why it is. The fans have seen a lot of things change in NASCAR in the past couple of years. This I think includes a lot of driver changing teams (take Dale Jr for example), car body styles changing constantly, the amount of Boring races we are getting now, and one thing I think that has really hurt NASCAR a lot is the Chase format. It has hurt a lot of drivers like Jeff Gordon, because if not for the chase he would've won the title in 2004, and 2007. It would mean that he would be one title away from Petty and Earnhardt Sr.
Also if not for the chase, Tony Stewart would still win his title in 2005, Jimmie Johnson would've still won in '06 and '09, but then Carl Edwards would've won it in '08 and Kevin Harvick would've win the Sprint Cup title in 2010. The chase along with a lot of other thing have hurt NASCAR in the past few years, and I think that there needs to be a change in the Sport sometime soon because it's hurting the population of NASCAR a lot.
Re: 2012 Brickyard 400 - Sprint Cup Series
According to Jayski, attendence was at 125,000 this year, compared to last year's 138,000. It's also the worst Indy has done for a Cup race. The track seats 257,325.

I'm fairly certain the dip in attendance is primarily due to the economy and the crazy number of unemployed fans. I know I definitely have less disposable income than a year ago. People have other priorities with their money right now.

If that's the case, then why did so many people go the 500 in May?
