I am looking at a radar. There is another storm to the west. We may get some racing, but not nearly the full length unless they post pone it tomorrow!

Am I mistaken or isn't the rule that you can speed entering if you're avoiding a wreck, as long as you slow back to pit speed?

Re: 2014 Daytona 500
I believe because Kasey was making a scheduled stop. And that the spinning car wasn't in the racing line and did not bring out a caution. Were why he got the penalty. Needless to say it really sucks for Kasey.Rykia_RKXK wrote:Am I mistaken or isn't the rule that you can speed entering if you're avoiding a wreck, as long as you slow back to pit speed?

I said to myself out loud that Mike Joy was jinxing it when he said that they've been caution-free since the delay ended. And guess what? It happened.

Re: 2014 Daytona 500
I looked at the radar, there is potential that this race will finish the entire distance due to storm decimating.

Re: 2014 Daytona 500
I was really hoping that Jeff Gordon was going to win that one, but I'll definitely okay with a P3 finish. I thought that him, Kez, and Hamlin would blow by Dale. Jr.
Considering how close Dale Jr. has been in the last few years, I think it was a matter of time before he would get another Daytona 500 win.

Re: 2014 Daytona 500
Fantastic 500 from start to finish, albeit it got a bit smashy in the final 30 laps. With all the times that Junior has finished 2nd and 3rd the past few years, there was no way to think that he wouldn't win the 500 again at some point, and sure enough he did it tonight!

That was an awesome 500! Rain kept the race wild from start to finish.
Good win Junior! Nice to see him get back in victory lane...It's kind of nuts to think he now has more wins than his dad at Daytona.

Re: 2014 Daytona 500
Heard (and read) the 500 was actually good. Guess I'll have to tune to the re-air Monday on FS1 and see for myself.
Re: 2014 Daytona 500
That was the best 500 I've seen in years. This race goes right up there with the 2007 Daytona 500 in my book.
For the longest time the 500 has had all sorts of hitches to it. This year we got all that rain, and when they rolled out the cars again there was some great racing. I hate it for guys like Paul Menard that got caught up in those wrecks, but I'd take a Junior win any day.
It's ironic that all day NASCAR.com was advertising the 2004 race while the rain delay was going on. And now, I can say that's the happiest I've ever seen Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in all the years I've been a race fan.
Hell of a race, hell of a finish. Great way to cap off Speedweeks 2014.

Re: 2014 Daytona 500
One of the best Daytona 500's in years. NASCAR has found a great Superspeedway package this year. Awesome to see Dale Earnhardt Jr. win this one. This is the most excited I've seen him in some time.

Well... nobody else but Hamlin seemed to be trying during the last restart... so he did have it fairly easy. Having two teammates willing to block for him helps, but that's how superspedways are won, as Jack Roush can attest to.
Did anyone else catch, during the post-race, Darrell Waltrip suggest that Dale Senior put the tape on front of Junior's car to help him win? Is Dale Earnhardt, Sr. the god of tumbling tape or something all of a sudden?
I thought I was hearing things because I wasn't really paying much attention, but when my mother and someone else both mentioned it to me, I was sure I wasn't...
I mean... a story like that is harmless if it's between two people, but this is national television. Granted, Fox News also was unaware that their own station was airing last year's running of the race during the rain delay.
Not to forget Michael Waltrip's post-race acting was good enough for an Oscar. I was wondering when he would bring his acting to the coverage, especially after the Newport-exploitation-mobile he ran last year...
It was probably the most entertaining Daytona 500 I've seen since 2002, until the final restart. I knew how it was going to end once I saw how everyone lined up. Would have been nice to see more people try and win, but as I said before, the Hendrick drivers weren't going to race. Had they done so, Hamlin probably would have won the race.
You can, however, legitimately say that Junior only won because the 3 car was in the field. Because the 3 car was busy wrecking everyone else -- and so was the 4 car.

Sad that there used to be a time that FOX actually had good coverage of NASCAR races... hell, you know they can do good coverage of sports (see NFL), but they reduced themselves to parodies of themselves (from the times I watched up until last year, and what it sounds like was the case this year)

Might just be me, but I think Fox is trying to be ESPN, which is not what anyone wants.

It's the case with Fox Sports 1. When it comes to NFL coverage on Sundays, Fox is top notch, but most everything else, they are becoming more and more like ESPN

I don't think they're ESPN, but I do feel they have taken on an attitude of basically telling NASCAR fans that if you don't like FOX's coverage, then go watch the other channel that's showing today's race.

Re: 2014 Daytona 500
I know I'm a little late for this, but whatever.
The most entertaining Speedweeks I've seen in a long time, and a pretty damn good 500 despite the 6 1/2 hour rain delay. and of course, DAYLE JUNIOR.
At first, I thought it was looking like the 2013 500 when they went single-file during that first run, but that went away pretty quickly, and thank God for that.
4 big wrecks in the last 50 laps made this more of a wreckfest than it really should've, but that's superspeedway racing for you.
Overall, this was the best 500 I've seen in quite some time. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come, even with the stupid Chase format this year.
The 2014 Daytona 500 gets an 8.0/10.
