Looks like another legend will be erased from the WWE history books. However, this one's a little more serious.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa of ROH/Indie fame are now in NXT. The best thing about this is it increases the potential chances of Candice LeRae coming to WWE, because she is the boyfriend of Gargano.
Speaking of relationships, John Laurinaitis is now engaged to the mother of the Bella Twins. Which means that in the same family is;
John Cena
Daniel Bryan
Johnny Ace
Road Warrior Animal
and the Bella Twins.

Gargano should get a shot in NXT solely because he countered the Pop-Up Powerbomb and made Kevin Owens Tap in one fell swoop at PWG BOLA a few years ago. It was great.

Predicted Charlotte winning (thank fucking god), Owens winning, Cena winning, but my prediction of Sheamus cashing in on Rollins (and winning) fell a bit short.
Didn't give a shit about the Neville/Stardust tag team, Dolph/Rusev and Family vs Family, though they did go the way I pretty much figured they would so it's not a surprise.

So WWE confirmed Sting was injured during his match with Rollins after he was powerbombed into the turnbuckle. Apparently he was booked to appear on Raw tonight, but that may not be happening. According to Dave Meltzer, it's a career threatening neck injury.

So Matt Hardy won the TNA Championship at Bound for Glory on Sunday.
EC3 then files a kayfabe legal injunction against TNA, Matt drops the belt on Tuesday.
Supposedly they did the tapings for the next Impacts too far in advance and had to make an excuse for why Matt didn't have the belt.

That happened once with WCW when Sid was champion on the early 90's. He was released by the company, but they already recorded the shows way too far ahead. They had to trash the footage with Sid and put the beltt on Flair.

Damn, Rusev is injured, Nikki Bella is injured, Orton, and now Seth.
As for the tournament, I think Roman gets it. I don't think they're going to let his recent title shot go to waste.
I was kind of looking forward to the match tbh.

- Spoiler:
- That was literally just SummerSlam '13 with Roman and Sheamus subbed for Bryan and Orton, except nobody cared.
All this talk about how they need to make a top heel at this show, and they choose the guy who makes the least compelling case for it. At least they can hopefully get Sheamus' title run out of the way quickly, I doubt he'll hold it past Royal Rumble.
It's disappointing, but at least it made some sense, unlike BoD VS. the Wyatts.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
So, RAW this past week had the lowest viewership rating its had in 18 years. Less than three million people watched, with the Nielsen ratings at a 2.16 average for the show.
Not surprising, considering they've been regurgitating the same old tired story lines for the better part of a decade, and also considering the fact that we live in a society with A. A short attention span, and B. A society that prefers edgy television to this kiddie bullshit.
This is resembling what WCW did at the end of their run, and we all know what happened to them.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I think the storylines certainly aren't compelling, but I don't think they need to drop PG to do that. There's been plenty of family-friendly entertainment with interesting stories that brought in big money; even NXT puts together captivating material with the restrictions.
I've read and heard frequently the biggest problem with RAW is running it for three hours, because it's so hard to draw in new fans that way with so much filler. For now it makes them more revenue, but they definitely need to consider if it's worth it in the long haul.
The ratings are concerning, but keep in mind the company is stable financially with all of their revenue sources, so in their eyes there's no rush to change it. WCW had terrible ratings, but they were also hemmoraging millions of dollars a month.
What bothers me more than anything is the booking of the roster. Nobody outside of Cena, Reigns, maybe Ambrose, and the part-timers has any momentum trading wins and losses on every show. It seems they're actively trying to avoid making stars because they don't want anybody to overshadow Roman while they try to get him over. I don't have anything against Roman personally, but he's not ready for that spot and he's not who the fans want.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
One thing I noticed.
[REDACTED]: Started heel managed by Classy Freddy Blassie. (I think I spelled that incorrectly)
The Rock: Started heel with the Corporate Champion angle.
Stone Cold Steve Austin: Started heel before Wrestlemania 13.
John Cena: Started HEEL with the rapper gimmick with his own raps.
Roman Reigns: You will love him no matter how many more over guys we have to bury for him and then beg their fans to love him.
Seriously, just turn him heel, it'll save you all the trouble.

Rock isn't quite right. He started as "Rocky Maivia", an intended face that the fans hated. He didn't really turn heel until he joined the Nation of Domination.

Rock's case was pretty much what is happening with Roman: Starts as face (not the best face, but an okay face); crowd straight turns on him out of nowhere.
And Cena started as face during the Angle open championship challenge in 2002. He became heel in October of that year and turned back into face at the 2003 Survivor Series.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I think while Heel characters are generally more interesting, they don't necessarily solve all of a promoter's problems. Austin's Heel turn in 2001 was intended to refreshen him, but only caused a big drop in business because that wasn't the Austin the crowd wanted to see.
Anyway, as far as right now goes, I'm looking forward to Cena's return at this point. Raw's been so dreadful the last three weeks, at least he'll be able to carry the show a little bit in the way that Roman can't and they're not willing to allow anyone else to.
Hopefully, either Vince will cave in and make an overhaul when the ratings situation gets too dire, or they'll survive long enough to not have too much damage when he's gone. Not much else is going to stop the Reigns train.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Love him for hate him. Cena does big business for RAW.
The U.S. Open Challenge matches were incredible!
I liked Roman, until it was too much, too soon.
I rather he be a silent but deadly babyface, crowd would so love him, but he is being weirdly booked into a underdog situation, yet DEFEATED ALL 4 MEMBERS OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS ON SMACKDOWN. Like what? Come Mania, I wouldn't be shocked if the fans turn on him.
Another thing plaguing Roman, is he's Vince's guy. Just like Cena was, and that PISSES off people. You need a great cast, what's so wrong with having 2-3 top guys. Stone Cold and Rock WERE GREAT! Undertaker, Mick Foley, and other upper-midcard people were great sidekicks. What is so wrong with having Roman, and Dean? Or Cesaro? Or Dolph. The fans get choice. Not all people were for Austin, but they had Rocky. Who can the fans support without creative pushing them down, and make them jokes. Brock is really the only guy, but he would lose that special meaning if he came back full-time. The ability to create new stars is what is really killing WWE.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
On other news. AJ Styles has been sidelined from NJPWs upcoming World Tag League for injuries, he and Yujiro Takahashi had to forfeit their participation in the tournament. Something similar happened with Hiroshi Tananashi and Yoshitatsu during last year's league.
He's supposed to challenge for Jay Lethal's ROH World Title at Final Battle (December 18th), but his actual condition is unknown.
If the injuries are significant, it threatens the upcoming January 4th Tokyo Dome Show (WrestleKingdom 10) match between him and Shinsuke Nakamura, possible but not likely ending of the Bullet Club storyline.
The other three confirmed matches in the event are "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada vs Hiroshi Tananashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Title; "The Cleaner" Kenny Omega defending the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against Kushida (who previously defeated Omega in Dominion 7/5. Omega retrieved the title at Destruction in Okayama and has kept it ever since, the match was announced in November 1st). ReDRagon will defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Titles against The Young Bucks, Matt Sydal & Ricochet and Roppongi Vice in a Four way match.

It's pretty clear Vince's mentality is he doesn't want people stealing Roman's heat. Of course, if you're not trying to get heat on anyone else, the whole show suffers if the one guy's not good enough. So many top guys have gone down with injuries... If Cena wasn't coming back, what would they do if Roman was next?

Basically what I was trying to say is that most mega faces enjoyed their first burst of popularity as heels before becoming faces. Vince is trying to have Roman completely skip the first part and just assume that everyone will love him if we destroy all the other faces in his way. Seriously, I think the only up and coming faces Vince hasn't buried is Cesaro and Dean Ambrose.
(EDIT: Only Dean. Remembered the WWEWHC quarterfinals.

Something in his back i read, Nakamura vs AJ is a first time thing and a lot of people are hyped for,...would be disappointing if an injury killed that. I see the ROH match getting either postponed or will have some type of screwy finish.bsoyuz wrote:On other news. Junior Stuff should be fun, and Tana vs Okada will likely be the feud-ender, also the Tag Team Titles will likely be on the line with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson vs the winner of the tag league. The finals being the team of Great Bash Heel in Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma vs the team of Los Ingobernables in Tetsuya Naito and EVIL (Formerly known as Takaaki Watanabe).

- Well that PPV was something.
Heard the Tag Team match was good, might watch it soon. Glad New Day retained.
the MexAmerica match went pretty much as I expected.
Motherfucking Ambrose wins.
I didn't care about the divas aside from Ric screwing Paige (thank god)
the Main event was pretty decent. Roman beating the shit out of HHH was the best thing I've seen. I like this Roman, he should stay like this.
the fact that none of Roman's "family" helped probably means we're going to see something happen tomorrow.
