Re: Australian Motoracing General (V8 Supercars go here)
After a months break, the V8's are finally returning to racing action this weekend at the Hidden Valley in Darwin. Mark Winterbottom currently leads the standings on 1199 points, with Craig Lowndes on 1098. BJR's Fabian Coulthard is 3rd with 1059 points and Jamie Whincup by his standards, not having the best start to a season so far currently sitting 4th on 986 points, with James Courtney 5th on 928.

My first Bathurst 1000 was 1994, and I grew watching a video tape of highlights of the 1993-1996 races, and the late race battle between John Bowe and a then 20 year old Craig Lowndes was some of the best racing ever.

Why not take the top 10 in a Dunlop race and they can run as a separate class? Just my two cents

I think that this is happening so that channel 7 doesn't air the last practice session. It's an hour long & has usually finished 2-4 hours before airing, making it a waste of television

Because a lot of teams don't have the budget and resources to run 1 250 race kilometres in two days. Hell I don't think they get that many kilometres in a season.kriswascher97 wrote:crl wrote:The Dunlop Series will run one 250km race at Bathurst:

Jamie Whincup has taken back the points lead in V8 Supercars after Mark Winterbottom finished 22nd in Race 3 at the Queensland Raceway while Whincup was 6th. The 5-time Champion won the first 2 races while HRT driver James Courtney took the win in Race 3.

Re: Australian Motoracing General (V8 Supercars go here)
The V8's are back this weekend, returning the Sydney Motorsport Park track (formerly known as Eastern Creek International Raceway) for the first time in 2 years. Last time out at the Queensland Raceway, Jamie Whincup took the Championship lead from Mark Winterbottom after Ford Performance Racing's lead driver had a troubled weekend. Is anyone gonna stop the 5-time Champion from claiming a record breaking 6th title?
Re: Australian Motoracing General (V8 Supercars go here)
For the first time in a very long time, they will be no on track activity of V8 Supercars on Friday. All practice will be done on Saturday morning.

Mark Webber will become a part of the crew on Channel 10 that will take back coverage of the V8 Supercars for the first time since 2006.
In the meantime, from what I've heard, Channel 10 will only broadcast the 6 big events for the V8's next year, the Clipsal 500, Townsville 500, Sandown 500, Bathurst 100, Gold Coast 600, and Sydney 500. the others will be shown on Highlights programmes which I find to be very bemusing.

That is true, although I think it was Darwin instead of Townsville. Speed will run non-stop coverage from Friday (and Thursday for Bathurst) to Sunday of all categories every weekend.BWardboy88 wrote:http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/championship/mark-webber-joins-the-ten-team

Aren't Fox Sports doing the same thing as Speed? I also don't get why people are so mad about this, especially when NRL only shows 1 game (sometimes 2, depending on whether there's a Thursday night game) live for the whole round on free-to-air.

I've never heard anything but negative from fans about the NRL only airing 3 games on Channel 9 for the week (Only 1 being live, depending on where you live). They only give the games mainly to the Broncos (understandable they get the most TV ratings and get the best crowd numbers even though they are a lame team to watch, yes I'm a Broncos fan so not biased), Roosters, Bulldogs, Souths and Manly. If you're a Warriors, Raiders, Cowboys or a Panthers fan, good luck having to need Foxtel to watch them teams.
This is the same thing with what the V8 Supercars fans are going to have. Fans want to watch every race on 10 but are just slapped in the face with having to order Foxtel to. Foxtel is expensive, it's $50 for the sports package which is bloody ridiculous.

Shane Van Gisbergen has gone 2 from 2 so far at the Sydney Motorsport Park, while Jamie Whincup extended his points lead to 69 points over Mark Winterbottom after the FPR driver struggled in the first two races. Also Tim Slade sat out Race 2 and won't take part in Race 3 either after this happened to him in Race 1:

Russell Ingall's Co-driver for the Endurance Races has finally been announced, with Tim Blanchard who drove for Dick Johnson Racing last year partnering him for this year's Pirtek Enduro Cup.
In the meantime, Scott McLaughlin fought off a late race challenge from Walkinshaw Racing's Nick Percat and took a brilliant 2nd win of the season in Race 3 at the Sydney Motorsport Park. Percat still got his best finish of 2014 with 2nd, Fabian Coulthard was 3rd, James Moffat an impressive 4th while Championship leader Jamie Whincup came home 5th, and further extending his championship lead to 135 points over Mark Winterbottom. The FPR driver could only manage 20th after suffering more problems in the third race.

Does everyone seem to forget that his best finish is 1st at Bathurst? I know he was the co-driver, but that still counts as a career race.
McLaughlin, Percat & Coulthard were the lucky 3 to take on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, as, I forget who it was, challenged the top 3 finishers to take it on the podium.

That's because co-drivers really don't do much these days expect log the minimum laps. Everyone keeps forgetting that Paul Dumbrell is a Bathurst 1000 winner, despite being one the worst drivers ever.Nascar9fan wrote:BWardboy88 wrote:http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/championship/blanchard-to-join-ingall

Another livery change, as Michael Caruso and his co-driver Dean Fiore will run a brand new paint scheme for this year's Bathurst 1000 to commemorate 30 years since the car with it's original scheme took pole for the 1000km event in 1984, driven by George Fury and Gary Scott.

Neat, although that means we'll probably get paired up with lil' Dick Johnson (Steven) for the Enduros. What would be cool, since this is a Penske team now, is Will Power coming over to do the Enduros with Ambrose.

Big news for the V8's:
We all know that Ambrose is going back to the V8's next year, but he's returning a earlier than expected. Dick Johnson Racing are going to field a Wildcard entry for him for the final round of the 2014 V8 Supercar Season at the Homebush Street Circuit in Sydney, for the running of the Sydney NRMA 500.

So with Perkins being replaced by Holdsworth, does this leave Jack out of a full-time drive? If he is I honestly won't care that much because he's really not that impressive.

While the Volvo of Scott McLaughlin took the win in Race 1, the Red Bull of Jamie Whincup won Race 2 and seals a record-breaking 6th V8 Supercar Title, surpassing the record of 5 titles that were equaled by Ian Geoghegan, John Bowe and Mark Skaife.
