Ze Winter Season is Coming
Honestly a pretty disappointing season for me personally. Gonna be watching Aldnoah but something tells me it's about to go full trainwreck and have got the Psycho-Pass movie on my mind for whenever it's actually released to the public.
Deciding on whether to wait on Durarara or not. The 1st series was okay but not that memorable.

Just got done watching the anime film Perfect Blue for the first time. And wow, it was really, really good. It kept me thinking the entire time. It reminded me a lot of Black Swan in several senses. I met check out Paprika soon as it is the director's other famous film.

Kill La Kill coming to Toonami on Feburary 7th. As a person who enjoyed the show when it aired in Japan i think this will be a lot of fun for those who haven't seen it.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
It seems that I've been watching this 2007 Anime quite a bit recently. I love this mainly because it contains many anime references in the majority of the episodes, when it's an anime itself but I think that's the point anyway.
Re: Anime/Manga Thread
Anyone wondering why Toonami felt like it ended earlier, well here's the reason why.
Long story short, Toonami is losing the 5am hour time slot because of ratings pulling IGPX out while it started its third rotation, and pulling Samurai Jack 2 episodes from the finalie (which will be put on the Adult Swim site at the end of the month).
This also now means that Toonami is pretty much a "Anime-only" block for the time being now.
The big question now would be Kill la Kill's slot placement, in fact thats really the only variable thats being thrown into this.
I'm just glad it's at least King of the Hill ending the [as] slots like it usually does anyways.

The more interesting thing out of this is two shows are scheduled to end on the 21st of March and SAO is taken one of the spots, question is what is getting the other spot?

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
Kind of slowed down on shows over the past 3 months yet i'm actually surprised that i've finished a lot.
Finished:
Xam'd Lost Memories: It was okay for the most part, nothing to amazing but not bad either. Only gripe is how some of the early cast get put by the way side in the later half of the story and some minor pacing issues. But other than that is was okay
Expelled From Paradise: Decent little movie. CGI is kind of jarring, one of the main characters is an asshole and the story didn't have much going for it...however the climax of the movie i found pretty fun.
Hellsing Ultimate: God did i miss out when this was on Toonami, Gorey as all hell but an absolute enjoyable watch with a grand soundtrack and pretty killer art style. Only complaints is the series kind of didn't take itself seriously enough and although that can be fine at time i felt they should've portrayed it a tad more seriously and i felt the characters were lacking in a few areas (Alucard is a badass yes but focus on other peeps plox)
Mardock Scramble (All 3 movies): Enjoyable set of movies. The series went for a more chill approach in the 2nd and 3rd movies but it was neato.
Log Horizon: Pretty much a total middle ground series a chill watch more than anything. It does SAO better than SAO although it tried to go SAO at the end, other than the last few episodes kind of falling off i was fine with it.
Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions (Season 1): Goofy little slice of life for the most party with it good moments in it. No complaints here.
Ghost in The Shell (1995 Movie): Had never actually caught the original movie before. Enjoyed it, for it's time it seemed a couple years ahead of the industry and it really shows
Watching: (I've kind of stalled on these shows)
Paranoia Agent: Only 2 episodes in, Intriguing start but that's all it's got going for it right now
Gunbuster: Only passed the 1st episode, Alright start...need to get back into it though
Aldnoah.Zero (Season 2): I'm only two episodes into this and the character and story direction are just killing this for me, just not enjoying it. The only thing that's saving the show is the guy doing the soundtracks and i can just hunt that down on Youtube.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
I haven't done an update in a while, so I think I'll change that.
Samurai Champloo: While the main storyline was underdeveloped, the show worked great in the same way that Cowboy Bebop did. I really liked all three of the main characters too. Also, that baseball filler was awesome.
Psycho Pass 2: Season two had the same problems as season 1 with the lack of supporting character development, but overall it was pretty solid. I don't understand all of the hate it is getting across the web.
Chobits: One of my friends always wanted me to watch this, so I finally did. While I generally don't like Chobits' genre, it was decent for what it was. Decent mystery with a semi-decent payoff.
Paranoia Agent: I love Satoshi Kon's directing style in general (Perfect Blue!), and each of the episodes benefited from his unique approach to the medium. Unfortunately, the narrative was clunky and the ending was a bit of a misfire overall.
Outlaw Star: This one has huge nostalgic value for me from the old Toonami days. While it's good, the show definitely feels like a poor man's Cowboy Bebop and hasn't aged perfectly. Still a fun series though.
Haruhi Season 2: The Endless Eight arc was a bit frustrating, but other than that it was the same, fun wackiness from the first season.
Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya: While it has a different feel from the original series, Disappearance is really, really well done. It's funny, sad, and gave much needed development to two characters. The animation is top notch too. Overall, it makes me want more.
Fairy Tail: [Grand Magic Games Arc]: I'm about to finish the first series, and it seems likes it ends on a pretty solid battle shonen arc. It's odd to think I'm finally knocking out this series, but it's been a mostly fun ride while it's lasted.
Plan to Watch Next
Gurren Lagann (Been on the top of my list for a while)
Infinite Ryvius
Paprika
Gun X Sword
Space Dandy (I'll finally get around to it)
Fate/Zero (The first episode scared me away a bit)
Narutaru

First CM for Yuki-chan is up.
If you're wondering, the art studio isn't KyoAni but Satelight, the animation studio that did the first 4 Hellsing Ultimate episodes.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
Bumping this thread since Toonami made some big announcements recently at Momocon over the weekend. Here are some of the highlights:
-Intruder 2 will happen later this year in October.
-Michiko & Hatchin will be Inuyasha: Final Act's replacement on June 20th.
-Akame Ga Kill is coming to Toonami on August 8th.
Now that I got that out of the way, I want to say this:
As much as I hate to say it, I've lost a lot of interest in anime/manga in the past year. I'm not saying this because I don't simply like it anymore. It's really because of the fact that the full-time job I currently have takes up a lot of my free time. I can barely keep up with what's going on with Toonami as it is and have completely fallen out of the loop with what's going on in the anime industry. IMO, I feel like it's best for me to focus on what I have to deal with in the real world instead of finding time to marathon through an entire series.
Of course, this doesn't mean this thread will go dead, as I know that there's quite a few users on here that are into anime themselves. Maybe, I can still stay involved with watching anime or reading manga, but not in the same way that I used to. Who knows? Anyway, that sums up what I have going on right now.

That's fine man. That's just the reality of having a full-time job, it eats up your fun time.
Going to watch Michiko and Hatchin as it's an anime Toonami beat me to the punch as i have never heard of it till now. AGK I watched subbed so i might watch a few of the dub episodes.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
Latest update:
Finished:
Death Parade: Very intriguing show on the premise of limbo and the afterlife, smooth soundtrack and just a generally chill series gets points from me.
Trigun: Finally picked this seriesback up, Fun series although it kind of felt all over the pace at time with pacing.
Hellsing: Unlike in Ultimate where Alucard was OP as all hell, Alucard comes off as the only developed character in this show, lackluster story kind of also really killed the original version for me
Watamote OVA: Silly little 27 minute episode, nothing to bad about it
Katanagatari: Great show with a well developed cast of characters, great animation, and nice soundtrack to boot. Story was good as well despite the ending coming off a little out of place but making sense.
Watching:
Love Bullet - Yurikuma Arashi: It's trying to be a weird Madoka/Haruhi combination with BEARS but i don't feel like it's working all that well, It's okay for the most part although i wonder if will stick through with it
The Disapperance of Nagato Yuki-Chan: Kind of stalled on this show, It's alright but it is very different from the Haruhi series that people have come to know and life...Much more harder on the slice of life element.
Coppelion: Okay show so far. Characters seem to be a bit lacking though.
To add some discussion to this thread...I rewatched Madoka Rebellion for the 2nd time and one of the things that movie really does well is the artstyle and i mean some of the visuals are GORGEOUS.
My question is what's the best looking (In terms of artstyle and stuff) anime you've watched?

A lot of ufotable's work has always been visuallly impressive to me, though Kara no Kyoukai takes it for me especially in how it adds to it's atmosphere. The soundtrack also helps bring it back full circle and just connects with the amazing visuals.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
So after finishing up Day 3 I have a small bit of Do You Know that fits this thread.
The creator of the Higurashi and Umineko series, Ryukishi07, was a heavy Key Visual Arts fan growing up, (term is called Kagikko).
This happened because when he was younger he played a lot of games, and his brother introduced him to Air. When he cleared it the first time he went to his brother wondering why
Then his brother gave him Kanon and he did the same thing, and pretty much became a kagikko from then on out.
When Clannad was announced they were anticipating it's release, then Clannad got delayed and (again) he got a idea from his brother, why not make your own game?
The Game? Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni.
In his own words, "You could say the only reason Higurashi exists is because Clannad was delayed a year."
He said this today when he was invited to a panel that had the main artist at Key, Itaru Hinoue.
He has a panel tomorrow as well on day 4 so we'll see what else he has to tell.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
Two bits of news involving Japanese VAs happened this past week.
Kill Me Baby VA arrested on Drug charges, considering the character she played often looked stoned out of her mind it hilariously fits in a dark way.
And VA for Anna from Shimoneta among other characters has passed away recently due to pnuemonia
Last one kinda hurts a bit more because as someone who watches Type Moon stuff she was the voice of Hisui (Melty Blood series of fighting games and the Carnival Phantasm OVAs) and Magical Sapphire (Moreso Hisui since I don't really keep with Prisma/Ilya)

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
While I haven't watched any anime in a while, I have been keeping up with a couple of manga series, which are Berserk and Attack On Titan.
I am so happy that Berserk is having monthly released chapters again. They have been very intense and enjoyable to read. If you're into reading manga and have yet to read Berserk, you have no idea how much you're missing out on this great masterpiece.
As for AOT, the chapter that came out last month finally had the action that a lot of fans came to love, and it looks like it'll only get better from here. The next chapter will be released with the English translations on November 8th.
While I'm on the subject, I last saw that the 2nd season of Attack On Titan was supposed to start airing in Japan in the winter season (which is in 2 months). Is that true or did the season premiere get pushed back to spring? This question goes to show how out of the loop I am with what's going on with anime.

Preliminary winter chart
No I don't see AoT Season 2 on there so it's at least Spring.
Out of that list GATE is the one that seems to be a hit, and as a player of the game I'm mostly wary the PSO2 anime coming out in January. Might see Dimension W, Kizumonogatari and Persona 3 but thats just me.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
I thought of something while the Intruder 2 is going on, and it reminded me of the original Intruder event on Toonami, though it also lead to this.
Have you watched shows that you loved when you saw them initially years ago earlier, but as you've either grown up or watched them, you realize that the show has not aged well, or you've started looking at the flaws in a more negative light in a show?

Probably Guilty Crown with me, It was alright from when i originally watched it but the more i thought about it the more a lot of stuff in the show seemed to go no where.GamerAzuzu wrote:I thought of something while the Intruder 2 is going on, and it reminded me of the original Intruder event on Toonami, though it also lead to this.

I felt the same way about Elfen Lied. I thought it was a great series until realizing as far as the storyline itself, it wasn't really put together that well from the manga.
Also, Berserk's latest chapter has been released...
- Spoilers for the latest chapter:
- GUTS AND CO. ARE FINALLY OFF THE DAMN BOAT!!!!!!! IT'S A MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Anime/Manga Thread
I'm embarrassed that I didn't update the thread a lot sooner after coming out of Anime Expo.
Things of Note.
One Punch Man being Toonami's next series to show (As of this writing it's tonight at midnight Eastern)
Viz licensing numerous new mangas including Dragon Ball Super among other seires including Part 4 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Crunchyroll attaining streaming licenses for new series like S2 of Food Wars and detailing their streaming for this season's shows like Love Live! Sunshine and even a series done by everyone's favorite trolling creator, Gen Urobuchi. And a few more series as well.
Funimation licensing a couple of films including a well known one.
and Production I.G. confirming their new film has a license as well.
Streaming site Daisuki now comes with a premium membership.
And a couple new bits of Sword Art Online got shown there...I guess?
Sentai Filmworks confirming dubs for 7 different series.
Aniplex detailing the God Eater dub and a small festival in LA in October.
Yen Press announcing a few manga licenses as well.
A new series from Inti Creates that they're considering streaming from the Nintendo e-shop-wait what?
Little Witch Academia getting a full anime series, announced for 2017, and they are considering a Netflix release for it. (It says it is, but it is seen as a big option since they REALLY want this series to have a worldwide reach).
And AX may have just ended but they already announced their first guest for 2017, and now it includes a preview night, making Day 0 a full out event with a sneak peak of the event's activities.

It's a pretty crazy series for something that appeared to Sailor Moon rip-off 1000 at first.NASCARLOVER427 wrote:Just finished binging the rest of Madoka Magica, oh my freaking god, that was amazing.
I've been kind of falling out of it lately, All i've been watching lately is the EVA movies, Nana, and Yona of the Dawn.

Funimation and Crunchyroll have announced a new Partnership for Home Video, Broadcast Dubs, and sharing streamed content across both companies.
This should be a interesting venture, and I want to see where this could go, thoughts?

I saw this the other day. This could potentially be really intersting. I'm a Funimation member myself and would love to be able to view some Crunchyroll content.

21 year old me is hating 22 year old me for posting in this thread, but hey 2016 is weird.
Currently (and only) watching Tiger Mask W, which is the newest incarnation of the Tiger Mask series that's been on and off since the 1970s.
Also will watch the Babymetal anime when it's released some time next year.
