Normally, I don't like Marshall Pruett's articles (dunno why), but I felt this pair explained the whole schism with Randy Bernard and IndyCar pretty well.

It does remind us how short-term some of our memories get. Personally I feel Bernard was good for IndyCar, but then again, I'm not part of an IndyCar team -- and that's who he was shorthanding, from all I've heard.

Word is that IndyCar is trying to get a 20th race on the schedule, and it will probably be in Italy. Now word yet on whether or not this is confirmed or what track they would be going to.

As for the possibility of Zanardi competing in the Indy 500 next year, oh... hell... yes. bounce

If Zanardi were to enter, and win the Indy 500, that would probably be, all things considered, the biggest win by anybody in auto racing history, even bigger than Dale Earnhardt finally winning the Daytona 500, or bigger than anyone's victory anywhere.

So Randy Bernard's replacement will be Hulman & Co. CEO Jeff Belskus, and Mark Miles will become the new CEO of Hulman & Co. Miles was the chairman in charge of making sure this past Super Bowl in Indianapolis went off without a hitch, and also was a co-organizer for the 1987 Pan-Am Games.

After winning his first championship this year, it is expected that Ryan Hunter-Reay will use car number 1 for this season, a number reserved for the defending series champion only. Hunter-Reay's teammate, Marco Andretti, will also change numbers, from 26 to 25. Also, reports are that Takuma Sato is close to a deal to drive for AJ Foyt, but nothing officially announced yet.

The only highlight for Lotus in IndyCar this year was Sebastien Bourdais finishing 10th at Barber. And that was all because of his raw talent.

A bit of big news today, and that is that Rubens Barrichello has accepted an offer to drive in the Brazilian Stock Car series and will not run in IndyCar in 2013. Barrichello, who was expected to drive a second car for Schmidt Hamilton Racing in IndyCar, will instead drive for an unknown team in his home country of Brazil, and will run stock cars.

Briscoe might still race in IndyCar in some form, but it's doubtful.

In addition to the doubleheader events, IndyCar's looking to add standing starts on road courses, but only to the 1st of the 2 double header races and the 2nd races being the typical rolling starts. Tristan Vautier, the defending Indy Lights champion, has been confirmed as Simon Pagenaud's teammate at Schmidt Peterson Hamilton HP Racing. Yes, that's actually what they're calling that team now. Vautier will reportedly drive the #55 car for Schmidt.

In other news, Rahal Letterman Lanigan will field a car for Mike Conway for Long Beach. Conway will drive the #30 car.

By my count, this brings the full time IndyCar field to 22, with 10 Hondas and 12 Chevys. The Indy 500 currently has 24 cars.
