Which format should the 2012 TM Lights Season use?
Possible Idea for the TM Lights
I'll be the first to admit that only 6 races for each driver last year was a little... underwhelming. So, here's a possible way to set the Lights apart and maybe make for a more entertaining points battle.
1. Two divisions: East and West, 42 cars a piece. Each EFR member gets a MAX of 2 cars (maybe 3 depending on their standing in the community and if they have any established drivers) and picks which division they want their car(s) in.
2. 12 race schedule, with the East division competing at tracks on the east coast and the West Division on the west coast, with the first 6 races for both divisions determining who races for the championship. After each division runs six races, the top 21 in both divisions will combine and compete for the TM Lights championship in the final 6 races, while the other 42 cars' seasons are done. (This would make the total number of races 18, same as last year.)
3. (Here's the difference between my idea and the Chase.) Drivers who qualify for the 2nd half of the season keep their point totals from the first 6 races. Bonus points are awarded to the top 10 in each division. Driver with the most points after Decatur is the 2012 TM Lights Champion.
------------------------------------------------
Well, that's my idea. We could also revert to 2010 when there were just 42 cars running and have a 15-race schedule, or we could keep the three-division format from last season.
So, what do you guys think?

I like it. It's like a the All-Star event at Irwindale between the East and West series except it's more than one race.
Re: Possible Idea for the TM Lights
I like it...but I think that just so Cooper won't feel overworked, it should be a few members who do a few races.

We could, but then it would just be a carbon copy of the ARLA Elite Series. My idea is trying to set the series apart from the others.

This. Neat idea, plus it sounds cool to have a rotation of users posting the races. Saying that, I would volunteer (though I can't make videos ATM).

Then just have 42 cars, one series, its simple, basic and no confusion.

I gotta admit, I like Packer's idea. The quasi-Chase is probably the most interesting part of it.

The difference between my idea and the Chase: the points don't reset. Whatever you earn in your division in the first six races, you take with you to the last six. The top 10 in each division receives bonus points as well, as an attaboy for their performances in the first half of the season.

What mod would be used anyway? PWF GNS, ASA90, Cup90, or some other one?

I like this idea a lot. I also may just be able to help with some videos once school is out.

I would offer my services to run a race. But, I don't know if it would have commentary on it.

I'm digging Packer's idea. Lets do it.

Remember, this is just an idea right now. It's ultimately up to Cooper to decide if this is the format we'll use.

I'm for it. I would love to put the CRL spin on the TM Lights.

So this would be like the USAR Hooters Pro Cup then?

When I first read this line, I thought you had it as UNSR, if you had, I would have gladly taken you out back and beaten you with a steel bat.
I have no idea if that series is a good comparison though.

It's his series. The idea was nice while it lasted. I wouldn't bother.PackerMan71 wrote:Cynon wrote:I'm not doing any points resets or any crap like that.

No, I was just wondering what he meant. It isn't a big deal. It was just an idea, after all.

Points resets = Chase. Chases are bad.

Re: Possible Idea for the TM Lights
Use the current points system that's being used in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for all 3 divisions.

No, no, no.
If it involves any kind of 'chase system' it shouldn't be in there.

The Nationwide and Truck currently don't have a "chase system". But, I like the idea of each position being worth one point on the track.

Read the third Paragraph Down. That's almost the perfect idea on how we should run this.

Re: Possible Idea for the TM Lights
How about where you finish is the amount of points you get, and the driver with the least at the end of the season is the champion. Negative points for a race would be allowed, if the winner won the pole, lead most laps, etc., therefore deducting points off of your season total.

Oh goody, you have to mix Golf Scoring in with Auto Racing? What next, a Professional Golfcart Racing League?
Hmm... that sounds interesting, but it would penalize drivers who may just have bad luck or are caught up in others' messes, plus I don't like the whole reverse scoring system. Especially if only a specific amount of drivers are front runners and the rest are back markers.
