An Idea poped in my head
for a couple years now I had an idea. What if if drivers from various NASCAR seasons (Mostly 1970-2000) raced against each other. Not just legends like Allison, Petty and Pearson, but other such as Independent campaigners such as McDuffie, Delma Cowart, or Walter Ballard.
Here's a few of the cars I have painted for this series.
Ernie Irvan 1989
Dale Earnhardt 1982
David Pearson 1974
Brett Bodine 1992
Dave Marcus 1991
Bill Sedgewick 1992
David Green 1997

The 2's numbers look REALLY stretched. They probably should be shrunken in width a little.

that's cause the 2's numbers on the original were stretched
the only problem was that I put the Kroger and Pepsi logos on the wrong spots, but I don't really care about being prototypical.

I understand the overall concept of the series but some of these cars need a lot of work if they should ever pass as realistic recreations.

You clearly don't understand why the Penske contingencies are arranged that way.
These are some the cars you were trying (and I use that word very loosely) to recreate:
Brett Bodine 1992
Dale Earnhard 1982
David Pearson 1974
Dave Marcis 1991
You have not even tried to be accurate. You just seem to slap together a pre-made base and a couple of logos in 10 minutes and call it a day.

Is this what I painted those two cars for?

I wasn't trying to be accurate, but hey lets face it I am not a good painter a lot of those cars need work. If you want to try to remake some of them, be my guest, I could use all the help I can get.

Re: An Idea poped in my head
If you're trying to recreate old cars, you should probably look at the reference pictures Ceej posted and try to get all the details so that you have an accurate recreation.
If you get stuck on numbers or the like, search around some of the NR2003 sites still around. I know Scott posted a huge zip of numbers on the numbers and logos page on the EFR main site not too long ago. You could also try WhatTheFont to help you out a bit.
NNRacing.com also has a PSD of a bunch of numbers from the 1990s (there's some neat stuff on it).
If you're not happy with how it turned out, then what do you think you can do with these cars? Even if you are not the best painter or have the most original ideas ever, 85% of painting NR2003 cars is about effort. If you put forth that extra effort to learn from your mistakes and try some new things and see if they work, then you will eventually get better.
Hope that helps.

Re: An Idea poped in my head
Most cars from 1970-2000 didn't require a whole lot of creativity for them to look presentable. Cynon pretty much covered everything I was thinking myself, it's mostly just about giving it more effort until you come up with something that looks good. For the simple base schemes (which is basically all of them), you can easily make them yourself with the pen tool of whatever program you use. You'll find that being prototypical when you're recreating something will generally give you better results.

that's half the problem right there. I never really worked with the pen tool. Also I wasn't going for prototypical, as you can tell by the Earnhardt car.
