Car Hall of Fame
Basically the Idea is that you can nominate any real world car that you think is worthy of going in at the end of each month there will be a poll to see which ones go in.
To submit a car you should put in a picture of the car and a description of why you think it deserves to go into the HoF.
My first 2 submissions:
1.McLaren F1
http://www.images.essigservices.com/products/diecast/autoart/ETC-AUTO-00076002-i01.jpg
The McLaren F1 was the fastest road car in the world from 1998 until 2005 with a top speed of 240 MPH and to this day it remains the fastest Naturally Aspirated road car in the world. In my mind the McLaren is the Greatest Super car ever built.
2.Bugatti Veyron
http://www.carztune.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/1200-hp-Bugatti-Veyron-Super-Sport_2.jpg (Super Sport Version)
http://img.ezinemark.com/imagemanager2/files/30004252/2011/08/2011-08-01-14-29-06-1-bugatti-veyron.jpeg (Standard)
The Bugatti Veyron with an 8.0L Quad-Turbo W16 producing 1001HP was the fastest productioon car in the world from 2005 until 2007 with a top speed of 253 MPH. But unlike the McLaren it wasn't designed as a Race Car for the road the Bugatti is also a luxury car.
In 2007 the SSC Ultimate aero broke the Veyron's speed record of 253MPH by doing 256MPH. But in 2010 Bugatti had another attempt at the speed record with the new Super Sport. The car that will be bought by the people who can write the 2.5 Million dollar check will have a limited top speed of 258 MPH but when the car was tested without a limiter it hit 268 MPH. There will be only 5 made thatcan reach the top speed of 268MPH.

Re: Car Hall of Fame
Apparently, SSC are currently building a car that should blast the Veyron Super Sport's record to bits. It should be called the Tuatara and would hit 443 km/h (around 275 MPH).

Re: Car Hall of Fame
I think that the Thomas Flyer should make it in.
The Thomas Flyer was a racecar in 1908 that entered The Greatest Auto Race on Earth. It went this route from New York City to Paris in 169 days, without going on the railroads. It cost $4000, which would be around 12 million in todays currency.

Ferrari 312T5
March 711
Ligier JS5
And my personal favorite, the Tyrrell P34. My only two explanations as to how this car came to be was that either the car builders read the blueprints upside down, or drugs were involved...
The Car Hall of Fame has now turned into the Hall of Shame. I blame Ben for posting an image of a tricycle instead of a car.

Re: Car Hall of Fame
The Ferrari 312T5 has a very odd front wing, the March 711 is beast, the Ligier JS5 is pretty cool, but what the heck is going on with the engine compartment? and words can't describe the Tyrrell P34. What races did the Tyrrell P34 race in?

I don't follow Formula One enough to answer your question.

Just looked it up...it raced in 30 races and recorded a win in the 1976 Swedish Grand Prix with Jody Scheckter driving it.kensethfan wrote:Chives2112 wrote:The Ferrari 312T5 has a very odd front wing, the March 711 is beast, the Ligier JS5 is pretty cool, but what the heck is going on with the engine compartment? and words can't describe the Tyrrell P34. Re: Car Hall of Fame
I think the Nissan Skyline should go into this car hall of fame (specifically the GT-R's that have been released over the years) simply because it recorded numerous wins and championships in group a touring, and it's simply a badass car in general.

Re: Car Hall of Fame
I did a little research on the Tyrrell P34, and I found this: It was meant to increase mechanical front-end grip with more rubber on the asphalt, thus eliminating understeer and at the same time improve cornering and braking.
While that's a smart ideal, I still want to know what kind of crack they were on to build a car with six wheels.
I'm done, carry on.

Re: Car Hall of Fame
Only Rotary to win Le-Mans and could still do another 24 hours after it was done.
This has to be heard to be believed. I mean sure the only reason why it's racing is because Honda played a bit with the rules but it just sounds just beautiful
Sup Guys I'm going to win Drivers and Constructors in the first year with a bunch of former Honda people kthxbai

Too beast for F1 and was banned after dominating in its debut race. Preserves a 100% winning record

I've always loved the Vector M12.
This is the first car to win the Indy 500 (Marmon Wasp). Plus, it increased the safety of racing with its "Rear view mirror".

speaking of six wheels, did you know a 6 wheeled car competed in the Indy 500 back in 1948?kensethfan wrote:I did a little research on the Tyrrell P34, and I found this: It was meant to increase mechanical front-end grip with more rubber on the asphalt, thus eliminating understeer and at the same time improve cornering and braking.

Re: Car Hall of Fame
You're right. The Pat Clancy Special was fantastically quick in a straight line, with the power going to the two rear axles. It was, however, near-impossible to get to wretched thing around the corners. Billy Devore raced the thing to 12th place.navycook75 wrote:speaking of six wheels, did you know a 6 wheeled car competed in the Indy 500 back in 1948?kensethfan wrote:I did a little research on the Tyrrell P34, and I found this: It was meant to increase mechanical front-end grip with more rubber on the asphalt, thus eliminating understeer and at the same time improve cornering and braking.

How did Mirage get in here?
Anyhow, I'd like to nominate the car that set an astonishing speed record in NASCAR (yes, it's a NASCAR car, so what?) at the hands of two fabulous mechanics, even with the entire field regularly topping 200.

Re: Car Hall of Fame
For the best road car in the world, I'm going to have to +1 the McLaren F1. That thing was revolutionary back in '93 and it's still revolutionary. Not many cars can say they stayed awesome over the course of two decades.
Anyway, probably the most beautiful car ever made has got to be the Ferrari 250; the lines on this thing are absolutely extraordinary. (Click to view @ full size)
Another honorable racing mention has to be Fred Lorenzen's famous 1966 "Yellow Banana"; craftwork of none other than Smokey Yunick himself. It was the "T-Rex" of the 60's and 70's, because it was such a purpose-built machine (back when most cars were basically stock with rollcages and maybe big motors) that Lorenzen had to crawl in through the rear quarter window area (you can see how the roofline angles quite sharply downward). Regardless, it almost flipped the rulebook upside down, and cemented Yunick's place in history as an automotive genius.
There's a small history lesson that goes along with the "Yellow Banana". Back in 1966, Ford pulled their factory support out of NASCAR because they believed that the rules were favoring the Mopar gang. Going into Atlanta, Bill France Jr. asked Yunick to purpose-build a Ford that would help convince them to bring their factory support back to NASCAR. Well, low and behold, the Banana was conceived. The car was 110% illegal and didn't fit any of the required templates, but NASCAR was desperate to get Ford involved again, so they let the car start the race. The car ran well; leading 24 laps and being a serious threat to win before a crash destroyed it. Well, apparently the car was good enough for the higher-ups at Ford, because Little Bill was able to convince the Blue Oval to come back to NASCAR. And the rest, they say, is history.

Seen Elliot's car many a time. It's in Dearborn, Michigan in the Henry Ford Museum. Since we are taking about cars in here, that's a great place to find some cool cars. They even have a couple of old presidential limos.

The Tesla Roadster
The first ever highway-capable all-electric vehicle in serial production. That's right, that thing is all-electric, and all sports car. It holds the world record for longest distance traveled on a single charge, and can do 0-60 in as low as 3.7 seconds.
The Ford Model T
Do I even need to say why? In production from 1908 to 1927, this is widely regarded as the first affordable production car. Coupled with Henry Ford's new automobile assembly line, it made personal transportation much more convenient and affordable and revolutionized the industry.
