Did anyone else here Kyle Petty call Montoya's car the "420 car?" Isn't that a little inappropriate after what happened with two of his crew members earlier this weekend?
Re: Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen - Sprint Cup Series
Lets hope Montoya isn't SMOKED about it. besdies, you don't have to put it so BLUNTLY.PKligBKFan wrote:Did anyone else here Kyle Petty call Montoya's car the "420 car?" Isn't that a little inappropriate after what happened with two of his crew members earlier this weekend?

*in Mike Helton voice* We want all of our drivers and fans to be safe and provide for a great show for the fans and we want all of the crews and drivers to be safe, and the rain tires would make racing boring, and we also want to keep our drivers safe.
That's your weekly Mike Helton runaround.
Re: Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen - Sprint Cup Series
OK, if Cup are the best drivers in the world like Pemberton & Helton say, why can't they use rain tires and Nationwide can?
Re: Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen - Sprint Cup Series
Indycar drivers will race in the rain
F1 drivers race in the rain
ALMS drivers will race in the rain.
If NASCAR has the toughest drivers like they say how do you explain that?

Re: Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen - Sprint Cup Series
The problem with the rain tires is that NASCAR has not tested them on the current Cup cars. If they tested them before-hand, there's a chance they could have had this technology down and Goodyear could have brought a proper rain rubber. However, you have to take into account the added weight of the cup cars and it might make handling impossible. As much as we'd want to see rain tires, it might not be the best marketing idea to have your "best drivers in the world" spin themselves on a lap by lap basis on rain rubber.

Bullcrap. Short of some minor differences between a Nationwide and Cup car what is going to hurt slapping rain tires on a Cup car?!?

I could be wrong, but don't they do this already on road courses unassisted by rain?
Also, I laugh at the hilariously overused marketing line of "Best drivers in the world".

Well then don't mind me. Also, I'm sure NASCAR's Rose Tinted glasses are more like them drinking on the job because you know, everyone drinks a bud now over there.

I can't see any reason for not giving them rain tires to use. I mean, it's not like the Cup drivers don't have any experience racing in the wet

Yes but, I think the real reason they don't want to run in the wet is because NASCAR doesn't want it to affect the chase in any way which is really close. If it were Infineon which is still a good 8-10 races before the chase they probably would've put more consideration in to it.

Re: Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen - Sprint Cup Series
you know, i just noticed, and I'm glad to see this at american tracks now, the thick rubber sheet in front of the tire walls. it really helps prevent the tires from "grabbing" the cars and worsening the impact. kudos to the glen for that upgrade, although i still think they need to deepen their tire barriers

Hard Hit for Hamlin. Good to see him walk away though. Looks like stuck throttle.
