AST Delaparts National Dirt Trucks

Now a part of the AST, the National Dirt Trucks series runs exclusively on dirt tracks. Founded in 2008, The National Dirt Trucks last ran in 2014 in which Jay Rivers won the title with Blue Jay Racing. The series has since been revived in 2020 when Robert Delatraz, owner of Delaparts Performance and wealthy entrepreneur, made a sizable investment in the American Short Trackers to successfully have the NDT be revived under the AST banner. The series made its return for the 2021 season.

The series is set to continue into 2022 after a successful 2021 season.

Season Opener Qualifying Format Announced
Every driver on the entry list will set a qualifying lap time, the front row will be locked into the main race, everyone else will be put in qualifying race duels based on their qualifying position. Odd numbered qualifiers (3rd, 5th, 7th, etc.) will be in Duel 1 and even numbered qualifiers (4th, 6th, 8th, etc) will be in Duel 2. The top 10 finishers of each duel race advance to the main race, everyone else who doesn't make it will be put in a last-chance qualifying race where the top 2 finishers in that race make the main race for a field of 24 total drivers.

Porter disappointed with failed qualifying effort at I-70; has confrontation with Zagaria
Silas Porter and Jeff Zagaria's lap 24 incident lead to a heated verbal exchange between the two in the garage area shortly after the race.

"I don't understand it. He and I raced each other hard, but clean. I did get into the wall first out of turn 4, but he hooked me off the wall and into the inside hard enough that I shot all the way back across the racetrack. There was no good reason for that and now we're both almost out of this thing."

Porter would have to attempt to make it through the last chance qualifier; but after starting well and narrowly avoiding an early crash amongst the leaders, Porter's truck had an engine failure and he would again retire early.

"I'm amazed we got the truck running again before the LCQ, so I'm not shocked that this happened. I am disappointed with failing to qualify, but it's not because we didn't have the speed."

The weekend started off very well when Buddy Patrick, driving the part time #32 truck, qualified for the big show on the pole by over a tenth of a second. He said "Those whippersnapped sure have been schooled now!"

The twins Calvin and Milliam qualified 3rd and 4th, being the first cars in the heats.

Milliam started on the outside of Row 2 in Heat 1. She was up front for the opening portion of the race, until a collision with Avery Stone on lap 8 of the race damaged her truck. She sunk to 8th place, but that was enough to put her into the race.

Calvin started on the outside of the front row in Heat 1, and had a poor start, sinking to 6th by lap 4 on account of contact with the #47. His race was effectively ended by an oil leak forcing him to pit on Lap 16.

So Calvin had to go to the LCQ. He started on the inside of Row 2, and had a better start, getting to just behind the leading #85. However a collision between the two put cosmetic damage on the his truck. Calvin continued to race on, battling for the lead until around lap 30 when he lost pace with the leaders.
However luck would go his way when the #64 hit the wall in front of him and spun out, bringing out a caution. The #48 and #74 then fortuitously dropped out from in front of him, putting Calvin in the lead. He capitalised, winning the LCQ and making it into the race.

So then it was time for the main race. Buddy Patrick started from the pole; he had qualified there. Calvin and Milliam had work to do, starting deep in the field with Calvin on the back row, owing to his LCQ qualification.

Buddy immediately led from the outset, dominating. Meanwhile, Calvin and Milliam attempted to make their ways through the field. However on Lap 29, Calvin attempted to go 3-wide with two trucks, but hit the wall, spinning in front of the field and bringing out a caution.

Disaster struck for Buddy as he was forced to pit from the lead with a puncture; this later developed into a suspension issue caused by the tire failure; his truck ground to a halt just outside pit road. He had to be pushed in and lost several laps

Buddy hit trouble on lap 46; he collided with the race leader as the two bounced off the wall. But Buddy's wealth of experience allowed him to save the truck. Later on that same lap his grand-daughter collided with the #08 truck of Robert Raines. Calvin Patrick dropped to the tail end of the lead lap fixing damage on pit road.

Things would go from bad to worse for the #32: Buddy's attempts to get the truck back to pit lane damaged the clutch to the point where it gave out on lap 61. He passed Calvin in the pits, who was dealing with some mechanical gremlins of his own.

For the rest of the team, things fell apart further when Milliam got into the back of her brother's truck on Lap 80... and then dumped him trying to lap him four laps later. And then again on lap 90. Calvin apparently rage-quit the race at this point.

Buddy had had enough of his grandchildren feuding. He requested that Milliam were to be immediately black flagged, and taken to the family hauler, for "completely unacceptable behaviour"

Milliam and Calvin almost fought in the pits, and have been ordered to "never wreck each other again", or they may be benched for a race.

Milliam claimed that Calvin "refused to let her go" and "had no right to block me several laps down".

Calvin said that Milliam "was driving completely out of her mind" and "you can't just order someone out of the way"

All in all, the team really tripped over themselves and exposed their biggest flaws.

Oh yeah and btw Mack Loomis DNQ'd. He will attempt to show up for the next race, despite a battered truck; he is buying another engine as his first failed and his other one was leased.

We've already got an *interesting* family dynamic going on here. If this turns out to be a shitshow, I'll let it run its course. Perhaps one of your characters might be called up to fill in for one of the Patricks.

The weekend started off well once again for the twins, as Milliam qualified 2nd and Calvin qualified 5th.

Calvin got into the groove almost immediately as he rocketed into 2nd in the space of a few laps. Milliam, however, found herself stuck in the

However, he found he was driving too hard for his own good; when a caution came out, he tried to slow down but ended up sliding into the outside wall in an embarassing accident.

Inspired by Calvin's early speed, Milliam restarted the race from the 5th position, which she would also finish in.

The team has been showing great speed in qualifying, but hasn't always been able to make it matter in the races.

No news to report, except that both Patricks flipped out of the race. It's unclear if Calvin will be sanctioned for causing an incident which took his sister out.

Leicht and Frederickson qualifying time disallowed, Balzac and Helms make the field

Shortly after qualifying inspection, it was announced that Darrel Leicht and Johnny Frederickson's qualifying times were disallowed, therefore both drivers fail to qualify for Saturday's race. The reasons officials gave were for illegal parts found in both trucks. This led to the #15 of David Balzac and the #53 of Alyssa Helms being bumped into the starting grid. Helms' initial failing to qualify was especially surprising considering her being 3rd in points going into New Egypt.
