Kobalt Tools 500 - Sprint Cup Series
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship is all but down to 2 drivers, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart. The penultimate event is at the newly reconfigured and repaved Phoenix International Raceway. Can this play as one last wildcard in the Chase?
Be on the lookout for JJ Yeley in the #38! His car this weekend is painted by none other than EFR's own Scott Bates!
Go or Go Homers (Sinica Motorsports will be making their debut at Homestead instead of Phoenix)
7 - Robby Gordon
23 - Scott Riggs
30 - David Stremme
35 - Dave Blaney
37 - TBA
46 - Scott Speed
55 - Travis Kvapil
66 - Michael McDowell
71 - Andy Lally
84 - Cole Whitt (3rd Red Bull entry)
87 - Joe Nemechek

Re: Kobalt Tools 500 - Sprint Cup Series
I honestly think that if Edwards comes out of Phoenix with ether the lead he's got now or a points gain no matter how big. He's got the title won. Tony really needs Edwards to have a major problem and a poor finish. 'Cause even if they finish like they did at Texas, Edwards would still have the advantage.
And although we aren't talking about him for the title anymore, I'm going to watching Johnson. I said on TS on Sunday (don't know if anyone heard me), but Johnson in his career has never finished outside the top 5 in points. Currently he's 6th.

At least Yeley makes the race regardless.
If Johnson screws this up, he's done.

Jimmie's way to far back barring the biggest miracle ever.

if you look at it right now, HE technically has a chance, but you're right, he is too far back.Alta wrote:Implying he wasn't done already.navycook75 wrote:At least Yeley makes the race regardless.

I just want him to wreck at Phoenix and Homestead just to show how bad his chase campaign going for 6 in a row was.

Re: Kobalt Tools 500 - Sprint Cup Series
I really want Tony to win this championship even though I'm not a Stewart fan. I know they say you have to be lucky to be good, but Edwards has just been WAY too lucky in the Chase. If it weren't for a crappy run at Dover, Tony would be the points leader by a lot.
Re: Kobalt Tools 500 - Sprint Cup Series
I'm waiting for Johnson to unload a pant-load of four-leaf clovers during these next 2 races.
Re: Kobalt Tools 500 - Sprint Cup Series
Jimmie Johnson is Jimmie Johnson. Never, ever count him out.
Re: Kobalt Tools 500 - Sprint Cup Series
Let me put it this way, Everyone in front of him must have a bad race and he must capitalize on it over the next two races. He's already a full race out both realistically and mathematically. I know we are all scared if Jimmie championship #6 but this year Jimmie's team has been so terrible that it's completely out of the question now, add the fact that Edwards has been deadly consistent in the chase....JIMMIEWINSLOL delayed till 2012.

Re: Kobalt Tools 500 - Sprint Cup Series
Too give you an idea (those who haven't counted JJ out).
Jimmie is currently 55 points behind Edwards. That is 27.5 points per race he would need to gain which translates to 28 spots on the track that assumes that nether him nor anyone else ahead of him leads a lap, the most laps, or wins. I don't care how good he's been there is not way he makes up that many points in a race without something happening to Edwards.
And that being said, he would still need Stewart, Harvick, Kenseth, and Brad to have issues too. So just looking at the math, I can say now for certain, he's done.

I'm sorry but I lawled at Vickers. Matt Contey is raging right now. Uncalled for by Brian but provided comic relief

The awkward moment when Red Bull wins in NASCAR and not in F1.
Anyway, Kasey Kahne wins, putting an end to an 81-race winless streak.

Meh race. Meh winner. Menard, Allmendinger, and Ambrose getting a top 10 makes me happy at least.

Agreed, for these reasons...
1. Yes, the two have had a recent history, but the way he wrecked him, at least an idiot can reason that Vickers "lost his brakes", and when you can throw in at least an idiot's version of a shadow of doubt, a suspension will not be likely
2. Green Flag. Had Vickers did that under yellow, I feel the same punishment would be coming as what Kyle got, but it was a green flag wreck.
My guess... probation until the end of year, and a fine at the least, but no suspension.

YES YES YES YES YES YES.
If you didn't know, I'm a Kasey Kahne fan.
Some Interesting facts -
1. The top three finishers this week finished in the exact same order inversed last week. This week - 4, 99, 14. Last week - 14, 99, 4.
2. If Kasey Kahne were in the chase, he would be third in points, and mathematically still having a chance at the championship.
EDIT: Also, I saw your car, Scott

Well, we can officially call it now: Jimmie Johnson's reign as champion is over.
Who will be the first new champion in five years: Edwards or Stewart?

It's over guys, Jimmie's got this locked. 68 points?? Jimmie will dominate Homestead and get title #6. The more things change....The more they stay the same.

I knew he wasn't gonna do it before he even won one championship. Seriously, I think everyone knew then that we wouldn't have a six time back to back to back to back to back to back champion, at least not for a while.
