Re: Round 5 - Mallory Park (Super Touring)
- Spoiler:
- Lucia Moreno, Chief Engineer suspended until Spa GP
Lucia Moreno and her chief engineer Nathaniel Barrow are both facing a suspension until the Spa GP after causing an intentional incident to force a green-white-checkered finish so that her and her teammate, Hannah Percy, would have a shot at taking home the race win after then leader, Kellan Rogers-Ashby, had pulled away by a large margin.
Moreno also wrecked three cars in the first attempt at the green-white-checkered, in a crash that seen Stejpan Svetadic go for a roll. However, Moreno wound up finishing, originally, second to Percy Pimpernel after both drivers avoided a melee involving Kellan Rogers-Ashby, Hannah Percy and Israel Bruce, who were all running inside the top 3. Moreno also slapped driver Ben Atkins in the back of the head after the race when Atkins commented about the "lack of talent" Moreno had.
On top of her suspension, Moreno was slapped with a 100 point penalty - the most since the inception of Dash Cup, and she was stripped of her finishing position in race 3, promoting Daxter Hamlett to 2nd and Verity Logan to her first podium since her win at Eurospeedway last year. Moreno was also placed on probation for the rest of the season.
After her incidents with Kellan Rogers-Ashby, Hannah Percy was handed a 15 point penalty and placed on probation until the Spa GP. Her husband, Ben Atkins, was called up to the officials office after punching the aforementioned Nathaniel Barrow in the face, but will not face a penalty. Atkins owns the car driven by Grant Macintosh that Lucia Moreno nearly put into the lake to force the green-white-checkered. Atkins also commented to Moreno, causing Moreno to throw a slap towards Atkins' way as he was walking away from her. Even though it did connect, Atkins did not react.
Wallace breaks wrist for the third time
After her accident in the first race of the season, Harriet Wallace has confirmed she has suffered from a broken right wrist for the third time since 2012. Wallace previously broke her wrist at Quincy in 2012 and New York in 2013. Wallace did not race in races 2 or 3 but is expected to be back by Silverstone the next week. Perrie Forrester joined the #02 team for the last two races of the weekend and finished in the points in race 2.
Ben Atkins: "We're still not really talking."
It may be a day after the incident, but Atkins has said in a press conference that him and his wife Hannah Percy are still not talking after the incident at Mallory Park. Atkins, although not directly involved, had a car he owned get wrecked by Percy's teammate, Lucia Moreno, as a stunt to give Percy a chance at the win. Atkins confronted Moreno's crew chief after the race, as well as making comments towards Moreno that she took high offence to.
"It's a little awkward between us at the moment." said Atkins, "We'll make small talk at the moment, but we're not happy at each other. She's still a little stubborn about her views on it, and I'm just stubborn anyway, so it's not fun. I want to speak to her, but I know it will come up naturally. Anybody know any good restaurants?"
Atkins, much calmer and slightly more reserved than what he was on race day, said that he was more disappointed with his wife at the time of the incident, and that Atkins, despite being a recent critic to Kellan Rogers-Ashby, felt sorry for her after she lost "a sure win".
"Percy [Pimpernel] did a great job to pounce on the opportunity, but Kellan deserved that one. I feel so sorry for her. Not just because of the lost win, though. Hannah was one of her best friends and now they've had this scuffle. It's a bit silly, if you think about it."
"I still don't condone what Lucia [Moreno] did, obviously, and I'm, again, obviously, still furious with her. It was a dangerous move and it would have been a lot worse for Grant Mac if he went in the lake. I feel like asking Kwik Fit for the money for the repair bill, but Quinton Young has always had a stick up his ass, so that won't happen."
Atkins will not be at Silverstone but will be at the Netherlands meeting which, with his recent indicators, might be the ATK Race Team's final showing.
Hannah Percy - "She had it coming."
Hannah Percy has stuck by her guns, speaking publicly for the first time after her messy Mallory Park weekend, saying that Kellan Rogers-Ashby had it coming after Percy wrecked Rogers-Ashby on a green-white-checkered finish. Both drivers were taken out of contention for the win and a post race confrontation transpired between the two. Percy was docked 15 points for her actions, as she had also made aggressive contact with her ex-teammate earlier in the race.
"She thinks it's okay to hit you out of the way then say it's your fault." said Percy, "She tried it with me, I shown her I didn't appreciate it, and she kept making aggressive moves towards me. I tried on a green-white-checkered, I got it wrong, wrecked myself, her and someone else, and according to her that makes me the worst driver in the world."
"It's just a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black, honestly. She wrecks people then acts like she did nothing wrong. She expects to be raced clean when she can't race clean. I knew I was in for an earful when the incident happened, because she whines whenever something goes wrong. I tried to apologise, she just screamed at me, so I told her what I really thought."
"I'm disappointed in what Lucia [Moreno] did. I was happy to take the second place, and maybe have words with Kellan on the podium about the way she raced me. I didn't once say for her to do that, and the fact she wrecked my husband's car makes it just a bit worse. It's put us on bad terms for a short while, but I'm pretty sure that won't last for very long."
Percy remains second in the championship fight despite her 15 point deduction.
