Since we've reached the end of the year for NASCAR and the final major race weekend of the year with F1, let's begin the "awards ceremony" as decided by us here at EFR. I will be trying to keep track of results, and will say the deadline for your picks are on December 7th.

It's simple, nominate the driver/team who should get the nod and the one with the most wins the award.

2014 EFR Motorsports Awards Empty Re: 2014 EFR Motorsports Awards

Post by Davidizer13 Mon Nov 17, 2014 8:34 pm

Driver of the Year
Formula 1: Daniel Ricciardo (hon. mention to Valterri Bottas)
IndyCar: Simon Pagenaud
V8 Supercars: Jamie Whincup (not a fan of him, generally, but he earned that championship this year; hon. mention to Chaz Mostert)

Team of the Year

F1: Mercedes (hon. mention to Williams)

Fail Driver of the Year

F1: Kimi Raikkonen
V8 Supercars: Jack Perkins
IndyCar: Takuma Sato (6 DNFs in a row, including a race you should have won? Really?)

Fail Team of the Year
F1: SAUBER SAUBER SAUBER (hon. mentions to Ferrari, Caterham)

Best Comeback
V8S: Erebus Motorsport
F1: Williams
Indycar: Juan Pablo Montoya

Best Race

V8S: Bathurst 1000. Eight hours of total insanity. As it should be.
F1: Canadian Grand Prix. It's one thing to have a battle between front-running teammates, it's quite another to try and fight off everyone else as your car limps around one of the fastest tracks on the circuit. (Hon. mention to Monaco.)
Indycar: GP of Alabama. Out of the surprising number of wet races this year, this one was probably the most fun to watch once it finally got started.

Worst Race
F1: Russian GP

Biggest Hit
F1: Maldonado and Gutierrez at Bahrain. (Hon. mentions go to Raikkonnen at Silverstone and Sutil at Monaco. Nominating Bianchi at Suzuka just seems like poor taste...)
Indycar: Saavedra stalling his start at the GP of Indianapolis.
V8S: Jason Bright rolls it on the 3rd Clipsal race.

Best Finish
F1: Bahrain
V8S: BATHURST (honorable mention to Whincup and McLaughlin at Clipsal)

Controversy of the Year
F1: Caterham and Marussia closing up shop. On one level, it was something we all expected to happen soon enough, despite what hope Bianchi's points gave Marussia. But F1 management's callous attitude to losing a fifth of their grid, and the fact that the rule changes that were supposed to help them become more competitive never materialized (and that the ones that did show up had the opposite effect), strike an ominous tone for Haas F1 or anyone else who's considering an entry. (Honorable mention to the ongoing Hamilton-Rosberg slapfight/manufacturoversy.)

LOL Moment
F1: Maldonado bins it in practice for China.
"I crash."
"Oh. Okay."
NASCAR: Josh Wise and the Dogecar.
