Today was a great day of racing for the BTCC, many more to COME!

Wrathall did some great work in race 1, not so great work in race 2. He's got a great package and great talent, just needs to keep his brain in check.

Overall though, BTCC is off to a pretty good start this year.

As long as there are no complications from the actual surgery, it's going to be worth it in the end not having to deal with persistent pain and not being able to do much about it. Fight on.

Formula Ford: 12 entrants with the most horrendous cars
Ginetta Juniors: 14 entrants
Ginetta Supercup: 17 entrants
PCC: 12 entrants
Clio: 24 entrants
Formula Renault: 10 entrants(!?)
Decent numbers for the Ginetta's and the Clio's but Formula Ford has gone to shit and Formula Renault 2.0 continues to die out in the UK...
On the bright side the new Formua 4 championship has 24 entrants.
Also, I'm in Thailand now. This is my average journey to my apartment from the airport-a 3 lane road becoming 5 lanes.

Re: Random Discussion Thread
I think the Ginetta Juniors and Supercup should have stuck with the original car they used and the Porsche numbers are understandable because of finance problems. Clio's weren't that bad, and tbh all single seater series have suffered a lot in the UK. All except Formula Vee, whatever the 750mc are doing they are doing it well. Personally I think that F4 should replace Formula Ford on the BTCC calendar, Formula Ford need to rip the wings and ecoboost engine out of those things and stick to one engine and stop changing them. Another solution would be to revert back to the nineties when we Formula First which was very cheap.Milan655 wrote:Metro 6r4 wrote:What's happened to the grid sizes in the BTCC support races! Re: Random Discussion Thread
Formula Ford have made things too expensive. The Duratec engine + the old Mygale/Van Dieman combination was so inexpensive that it allowed for a large amount of people to become involved. Championships like the Avon Tyres Formula Ford 1600 and the Castle Combe championship have huge numbers, more than the national championship, and they're only club championships, purely due to the use of the old 90's Kent 1600 engines. Formula Vee is the same, in that it uses a cheap and easy to maintain VW engine. If the MSA decide to think of the masses and employ a cheaper engine, I'm sure things would go along a lot nicer.
Have you seen the situation with British Formula 3 as well? 5 entries! Of course, that's due to SRO hitting a rather difficult time. They can barely keep GT1World and the Blancpain Endurance Series running-they've gotten rid of the hospitality restaurant at these events.

Re: Random Discussion Thread
Yep, Formula 3 and Formula Ford need to have a major rethink if they are to survive and GT1 and the Blancpain series are kinda pointless anyway. The GT's might as well be combined with the Euro Le mans series. One thing I don't understand about the new Formula Ford is the wings they have. The series was designed to give young drivers a cheap step up from karting therefore they didn't put wings on the car so it felt like a kart but with the looks and power of a proper formula machine, this is what made the series unique, and they decide to scrap that! I'd go as far as saying that the Castle Combe series and Formula Vee are easily the best Single Seater championships in the UK because they have been smart enough to leave the rules alone and not fiddle with anything. They are also unchallenged by other clubs with similar championships which has been another big problem. BARC MX5 series - Pointless because the BRSCC championship is ran better and they turn up to each event with about 120 cars entering the races. Bentley drivers club - Pointless, might as well merge with the VSCC. Aston Martin Owners Club and Morgan Sports Car Club have almost been killed of by other clubs offering similar championships because the amount of organizing clubs has doubled over the past few years. What annoys me even more is the stubbornness of the BARC and BRSCC to work together and create a better grid levels and race days, It's the BARC's fault that Mallory is suffering because they won't allow the BRSCC to go there.Milan655 wrote:Formula Ford have made things too expensive. Re: Random Discussion Thread
The new Formula Ford "wings" came about as a concept a few years ago. Their reason behind it was that they had the belief "kids" felt like they had to progress to Formula One as quickly as they could and that they wouldn't choose Formula Ford as they don't have wings and therefore look nothing like a Formula One car. From last weeks Autosport season preview the Ford Motorsport chief, Mike Norton, said "The reason we've changed comes down to drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. Dads and managers in their 30s and 40s don't necessarily remember Formula Ford, and kids now think they need to get to F1 before they're out of nappise-'you want me to do a year in a car that doesn't have wings? I'm wasting my time.' They want a small F1 car." Pretty dreadful reason to be honest.
GP3 though has done well, and continues with a large field of some quite talented guys. Additionally, the F3 Euroseries and the F3 European Open series are really good this year. There were 30 drivers at Monza last weekend in the Euroseries and there are also some massive names in Ferrari's Raffaele Marciello, Gerhard Berger's nephew Lucas Aueur, Damon Hill's son Josh, and Chanoch Nissany's son Roy (lol). F3 Open has 25 entrants this year, albeit only 7 or 8 of them really have a decent future.

Mind you F2 also went away at the end of last season as well, so there is some changes happening on the lower formula front. There is still plenty of confusion, but since Superleague, A1 and F2 has gone away it's getting less confusion and grids are getting a bit more stable.

The problem with F2 and Superleague was no one gave a toss about them. Do miss A1GP though..
