Austin Dillon to make Cup Debut
No press releases from what I seeing so I don't know if this is old news or not but no one has posted about it here.
Anyhow, Austin Dillon will be driving a Ronald Reagan Centennial theme #98 Chevy, supposedly at Kansas in October.
Here's the car itself here
I have two Questions, why and how? To be more specific:
1. Why is Austin Dillon getting a Cup ride when he hasn't even done enough racing in Nationwide?
2. How is Richard going field a fifth car when there is a current car limit of only four per team?

Re: Austin Dillon to make Cup Debut
1. Austin Dillon actually has some talent to match his equipment, unlike his dad.
2. You are allowed to run a fifth car in less than seven races, plus the official owner of the car is Mike Curb.
This is old news, though.

Re: Austin Dillon to make Cup Debut
So in other words, the rule only applies for a full season therefore five can be only be done as a part time deal.
Also, I didn't know that Mike Curb was the owner. Does explain the "Curb Records" Sponsorship. I have no doubt that Austin Dillon has the talent, it just seems abit soon to throw him into a cup car with no full time season in a Nationwide car. Of course then again, no one wants to follow that route anymore for some reason.

Re: Austin Dillon to make Cup Debut
He has 3 wins in truck series, 11 poles and only 43 starts. In his 11 NNS starts he has 4 top 10's and 2 top 5's ... I think he's ready.
Re: Austin Dillon to make Cup Debut

I think Austin Dillon getting a Cup seat was well deserved. Knowing that Kevin Harvick has been planning to leave RCR for a while now, my best bet is that Dillon would get his seat when Harvick leaves, assuming this could occur in the near future.

Why would he leave when he's been a contender for the championship the past few years?

I think what he meant was that there have always been rumors of KHI having their own Cup team.Nascarboy426 wrote:kensethfan wrote:I think Austin Dillon getting a Cup seat was well deserved. +1
If he goes to Nationwide, he's basically running against Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, etc. and those guys every week. Plus in the Nationwide races he has run this season, I would say Dillon has shown that he can keep up with the Cup guys.
Btw, I'm thinking that Dillon could go full-time in 2013, especially if he takes the Trucks trophy this season.. I say that the next driver that leaves the RCR cup stable.. (Burton? - he's had a pretty bad season; might be close to retirement too) will be replaced by Dillon.
Re: Austin Dillon to make Cup Debut
Well just because you dominate in one series, dosent mean youll dominate in another. Joey Logano is a good example.

I thought Busch was an emergency replacement for Chad Little after Roush fired him in 2000. Then Roush just decided to stick with him in the 97.
Re: Austin Dillon to make Cup Debut
He was, while he was running in the trucks at the time for Roush, which is the reason why he skiped Nationwide.Woody wrote:RACECAR wrote:PYLrulz wrote:RACECAR wrote:1. Why is Austin Dillon getting a Cup ride when he hasn't even done enough racing in Nationwide
