Get Ready To Rage................
ISC reports $1 million net loss in quarterly earnings; no Montreal NNS race: UPDATE: Changes in NASCAR's race schedule, a reduction in revenues from corporate sponsors and a broadcast partner and, of course, the struggling economy combined to sharply reduce both quarterly earnings and revenues for International Speedway Corp., the company announced Thursday morning. Daytona Beach-based ISC reported a $1 million net loss for its fiscal third quarter, which ended Aug. 31, down from a $9.7 million profit for the same quarter a year ago. Revenues also fell sharply to $115.9 million, from $150.3 million in fiscal third quarter 2011 - a 22.9 percent year-over-year drop. ISC officials said NASCAR's shifting of its races at Kansas Speedway to the second quarter this year, as opposed to the third quarter last year, and the elimination of a NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Montreal, Canada, were big reasons for the lower revenues in its latest quarterly earnings report. "Adjusting for the schedule changes, . . . total revenues were down only slightly, approximately 3 percent, from the comparable period delivering core business results within our range of expectations," said Lesa France Kennedy, ISC's chief executive officer, in a conference call with stock analysts. ISC officials said other factors contributing to the drop in revenues and earnings included NASCAR's new multiyear contract with Sirius XM Radio Inc., signed at the start of the year, which has resulted in $8 million less in annual revenues for ISC compared to its previous contract with the satellite radio broadcaster, which expired at the end of last year. UPDATE: NASCAR will not return to the Circuit Gilles Villeneueve in Montreal next season, ending a six-year run for the Nationwide Series. Promoter Francois Dumontier announced Friday the end of the agreement, which had been operated on a year-to-year basis. NASCAR said it wanted to return to Montreal, but could not work out a sanctioning agreement with Dumontier's promotion group. NASCAR hopes to still be racing in Canada next season, possibly with the Truck Series. One potential venue for NASCAR is Mosport International Raceway in Toronto. NASCAR also plans to fill the void left by Montreal in its 33-race schedule, which has yet to be announced. NASCAR's preference is to explore new markets where it's not currently sanctioning national series events.(Associated Press)(10-5-2012)

Kyle Busch and Hendrick aren't winning, so it's not profitable even though I saw more people at the Montreal race than at any other Nationwide race.
Then again, DTM is bidding to take over the Montreal weekend from NASCAR, so it's possible that bid was successful and that DTM may have run NASCAR out of Montreal.

Indeed it was. This promoter sounds arrogant as hell.
@JennaFryer: Regarding Montreal: Promoter stunned #NASCAR by 1st demanding a Cup race, then saying it wanted to run Nationwide at 9 am on a Sunday

Good for him, Everyone has been asking for it for years....I can understand why Nationwide could be an issue for some.BBoy wrote:MPatterson1724 wrote:business is business, too much must have been asked

But i'm going to be ticked if this Montreal gets replay with shitty generic oval #9230929
DTM? I'm sorry...who really cares other then Europe.

To be honest I only think the Germans and occasionally the Belgians care about DTM. I don't, the only entertainment factor is when the fuel cans stick and the car drive's off with it still attached.

DTM's become a Senior Tour for ex-F1 drivers (Alesi, Hakkinen, DC, Ralf). Big names like those could get a draw (esp. if Michael heeds milan's advice, and hops in a DTM car).

Well, if you had a crowd the size of Montreal's (arguably the largest for a Nationwide race outside Daytona, since clearly not many people can be bothered to go to a Nationwide race and watch the same people run on Saturday and Sunday), with no capacity for lights, and the understanding that if you have two races in one day you can keep people there longer, would you take that shot? Or would you just keep things the same until long after everyone in the area loses interest?

On one hand, I hate the loss of Montreal. On the other, it kinda brings joy to my ears that ISC is losing money.

We're talking about NASCAR however. You just can't negotiate running Nationwide and Cup races on the same day (exception being if Nationwide is rained out the day before). IMO, this promoter and NASCAR could've thought this out more, especially since the race would be ten months away from now.

And I think I know the one guy that I think can make that happen: Ron Fellows.
