I retract my earlier statement.conrail1990 wrote:Crappy race names = Crappy races.Sparkz47 wrote:I vote we have a "Name of the Year" award at the end of the season, where we choose the most insane race name from every series.
And hot damn, do we have some good ones.

John Darby (Cup Series director) said there were no reports of oil when Labonte's engine went up, that's why there wasn't a caution.

Fucking this.pepsibottle1 wrote:What a finish. That is the NASCAR I have been so longing to see for the past 3 or so years: drivers and officials returning back to basics and the "balls out" style of years past.
What's wrong with modern era NASCAR is simple. The series is trying too hard and has overcomplicated itself tremendously.Today's finish proved just that. The points chase, politics, and overall BS were thrown aside; two drivers stepped up to the plate and laid it all on the line for the win while the officials stepped aside in the closing stages and allowed everyone to battle it out without influencing the finish. We could have very easily seen a yellow called, but the race was allowed to continue. The track conditions proved tricky but obviously the drivers handled it without incident.
What we need isn't more roadies, nor rules tweaks. We just need to go back to the basics and keep it simple. Put the Chase, GWC's, safe racing and all of that crap out of everyone's minds and just race like today showed.
I honestly wish these races would be more like today, Let em go wild and let's see who comes out the winner. Be the simplistic series it used too be and not use this gimmicks to try to play the outcome of a race/championship.
After further review this honestly may of jumped to best race of 2012 for me.

They won't do it because good ol boys don't win on road courses. NASCAR fans like good ol boys. They like, as Cooper put it, Five Wide Beatin' Bangin' Photo Finish URNHART JEWNER winnin'. So that's why there isn't enough road racing.

I'm pretty sure if you asked any casual NASCAR viewer what they thought of that finish, they'l more than likely say it was great. The fan base does gravitate toward good ol' boys, but as long as the racing is like it was today, I don't think many people will be too upset what type of driver wins.

I can't believe i missed this cause of 3 reasons

2. Olympics Closing Ceremonies (I wanted to watch, The Who, Queen, & The Spice Girls, never heard of them... so yeah...)
3. The race wasn't broadcast in Canada
