Re: Pennsylvania ARCA 125 @ Pocono
In what may be the greatest driver/team combo, Aleks Gregory, who last June at Pocono wrecked on the pace laps warming up his car, is expected to drive the #59 for Mark Gibson Racing, a team that also has an interesting history at Pocono. At last year's race, the #59 leaped over the inside wall with Buster Graham behind the wheel.
EDIT: And then it doesn't happen.

Re: Pennsylvania ARCA 125 @ Pocono
Practice just ended. Qualifying starts in about half an hour. Some notes from practice.
Brennan Poole was fastest, posting a 52.494 second lap, which averages at 171.448 MPH. Ryan Reed was second, also hitting 171 MPH. Alex Bowman was third. 35 drivers took time. The slowest was Clair Zimmerman, making his first ARCA start since 2010. Zimmerman made a lap in 67.558 seconds, which averages out at 133.219 MPH. However, since there are only 35 cars on the entry list, everyone will race.

Oops. I fixed it.
Qualifying has just ended. Unofficially Brennan Poole has won the pole. I say unofficially because he won the pole by almost six tenths of a second, and his crew chief Billy Venturini has a history of cheating. The #25 has failed post qualifying inspection twice this season. Teammate AJ Henriksen will start next to him tomorrow, and Chris Buescher qualified third. Also want to point out that if ARCA had Formula 1's 107% rule, only 15 cars would start tomorrow's race.

The only thing I remember him for is having a big flip at Daytona one year.

Re: Pennsylvania ARCA 125 @ Pocono
I was at this race and was just watching a replay on SPEED. They really downplayed Don Thompson's fire at lap 10. That happened pretty close to where I was sitting and it looked like he had a problem cause he was really slow off of turn 3 and onto the access road, then the front of the car burst into flames, so maybe the engine suddenly went sour and then catastrophically failed. The car shot out flames a second time, which caught the dozens of sponsors on the front end of the #0 car on fire, and that's what SPEED showed. Also, very poor performance by ARCA and track officials to get to Thompson's burning car. Despite the fact that the car was right by the road entrance, it took about 35-45 seconds for someone to get there, I think some of the crew members from the other teams noticed this too, because a couple of members of Frank Kimmel's pit crew went running down pit road with fire extinguishers to help get the fire out.
Other than that, the race was pretty good. My favorite part was how the 55 ran out and then 15 other teams pitted immediately afterwards. Great win for Chad Hackenbracht, and that whole team. Who knew a cut tire would someone the race today?

Hate to take away from Chad's win, but he's been penalized 25 points and the team has been fined $1,500 for a problem with the driver's compartment air ducting. Alex Bowman also lost 25 points and the team was fined $1,500 for not meeting minimum roof height.

That is complete BS. Venturini Motorsports has at least one of their cars fail inspection every week and they never lose points or get a fine. SMH.

Yet Hackenbracht gets fined for a problem with the goddamn air ducting... ARCA needs to set their priorities

wasn't his team already in hot water with ARCA though? I mean wasn't this the team that got fined for Texting during a race?

Yes, the #58 team was one of the teams on probation, as were a few other teams, which I believe included a couple Venturini cars. ARCA's rules normally will put an entire team on probation, unless the penalty is something like driver/crew member conduct, which is why Billy Venturini is on probation and possibly a suspension for his actions a few weeks ago at Chicago.

That's about what my reaction was. I was at the track and stood up from my seat when Chad took the lead, and never sat down again. I was pretty jacked up on Mountain Dew at the time.
