Welcome back, Dale Jr. Good to see this finally happen.
Btw, Junior found the key to winning. He had to be Batman.

Dale had the best car hands down. The only way he was going to lose this thing was to have a problem.
So, Jr., this Dew is definitely for you.

One of my favorite drivers gets caught up in LOLgano's wreck, the other wins. I'm okay with that
So glad to see Jr. win. I think he can be a championship threat if he keeps it up, though I wouldn't bet on it.

(sigh) Antknee, don't buzzkill the moment, please. Let the Jr. fans celebrate. They've waited four long years for this.
As far as the race is concerned, kind of average, although the 215 mph top speed was insane.

Last time I saw Junior win was his Chicago win in 05, I missed the other two, so it's been a REALLY REALLY long time coming for me! I am so glad to be a Junior fan today!

Points standing at race 15 means basically nothing. Elliot Sadler was in the same spot in 2005 after race 15 and he finished the year in 13th. I doubt many people consider him anything more than a midfielder.PackerMan71 wrote:...and here's why:

Or how about Stirling Marlin leading the points at race 15 in 2002 and ending up 18th at year's end?
My point being that Jr's past performance over the last few years shows that he is basically a midfielder. Yes, he's having a good year so far, but that happens to just about everyone once in awhile. He'll have to keep that pace up through the chase to prove it's anything but a hot streak

The stats in the last four years are irrelevant. The 88 team has found the type of chemistry we've seen from Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus since they started working together. It took a bit longer than expected, but last year, Jr. finished 7th, so there were signs of improvement. And starting this year, they've really hit on something. When your worst finish of the year is 17th, and you've finished in the top 15 fourteen times out of fifteen races, you don't get those kind of results out of luck. Those are the kind of numbers we usually see from Jimmie Johnson (I think he's close to those numbers as well.) And there were at least 6-7 races where Jr. was up front when it counted and had a shot at the win.
I'd say he's shed his "midfielder" status.

With a total average finish of 18.7 for the past 3 years along with only 25 top 10's in that time. Not exactly earth shattering results. And you cant say "Those are the kind of numbers we usually see from Jimmie Johnson" For the past 3 years Jimmie Johnson has a total average finish of 11.7 with 55 top 10'sPackerMan71 wrote:conrail1990 wrote:Now bring up the stats since his last win in 08 and we'll still see if the argument is still invalid.....PackerMan71 wrote:Mystrsyko wrote:Good win for a midfielder today

Lewis just achieved major pownage.
Anyway, I'm extremely happy to see Junior win, especially sitting with my family on the anniversary of the day I watched my very first race. But inb4 his extreme detractors still try to say it doesn't count for some random arbitrary reason.

I personally think that Junior has found what needs to be fixed, granted his crew chief screwed him over a few times, but other than that, I think we might see another win or two out of him this year.

He still had to hold off other cars - fast ones - for the 2008 win, as opposed to it being like that 2006 Kansas race where Stewart won or the '07 600 where Casey Mears won.

Stewart ran out of gas in about Turn 3, and had a big enough lead over Mears to coast to the finish.

Dale Sr is still probably thinking 'good boy Junebug, wonderful job today'
Re: 2012 Quicken Loans 400 - Sprint Cup Series
This is true, but it also illustrates my point that anything could happen to Jr (or anyone else) in the next 21 races to cancel out their early success. Let's not forget that the middle of the season is where the balance of power seems to change. Guys like Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson tend to get fired up and dominate the second half of the year, while guys like Greg Biffle, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch tend to falter and drop back in the standings.crl wrote:Marlin broke his neck at Kansas and couldn't finish the season.
Remember Juan Montoya's 2009 when he top 10'd the field to death and finished 8th in points? He looked like a legitimate front running contender, but from 2010 through the present he has been right back in the middle of the pack. Nothing really changed, he just finally had some luck and hit a hot streak, and once that streak was over he went right back to where he was before. I can't deny that Jr has been on a hot streak since last season, but he needs that to continue the rest of this year and maybe into next year to fully shed the "midpacker" status. Right now he's kind of in a transition zone between "midpacker" and "front runner".
I do have to say though, despite my skepticism, this is the best I have seen him and his team work in a long time. It truly looks like they've figured it out and turned things around. But of course, only time will tell if that is an accurate assessment.
