This race scares me, and I am not kidding around either. These cars promote more pack racing on ovals. (Indy)

I am not sure if you guys are being sarcastic or not, so
The wrecks at Long Beach where Andretti went airborne and Conway's crash at Indy are my reasons for apprehension.

Re: Bombardier Learjet 550k - Izod Indycar series
Why don't we just put 'em all on road courses and have a cheap F1 knockoff? Sound good? Heck, we could even run the 500 on the road course! This idea is just FULL of merit, isn't it?
Ovals aren't the devil, Las Vegas was a freak accident that resulted from an incredibly poorly planned event, it wasn't just because it was an oval. Granted, it was unsafe for open wheel racing, but again, it only pertained to that one track. Texas isn't Vegas. And like Alta pointed out, the cars are much safer now.

Yes, but Will Power, Rahal, Marco, and ConMan were all uninjured.

All of which could have ended really badly, most notably Conway's. My idea is do what F1 is talking about, turn them into closed cockpit cars.

I shall be at this race! I'll be sitting on the frontstretch.
Re: Bombardier Learjet 550k - Izod Indycar series
All I'm going to say is that I hope nothing bad happens to all of the drivers during the race. I think the reason the new car gets on its side easily is because how the side pod's designed. If they modify it a little bit, I think it will be okay. Also, this is probably the first true test to how the cars will be throughout the race.

The cars are like the COT in Nascar. The only way someone will die now is if the bottom of the car gets hit head on from another car or an impact with the drivers head.

^ All of this.
Vegas was a freak accident, it's time to move on and let that sleeping dog lie. I guarantee that IndyCar can race on ovals without anything bad happening now.
And anyone who's scared about this race is just paranoid TBH, Nothing bad is gonna happen with these cars.

Re: Bombardier Learjet 550k - Izod Indycar series
The only problem with Vegas was IndyCar's insistence on having Talladega style pack racing at every cookie cutter track. Minus the pack racing, the cookie cutters are more than adequate enough for open wheel racing. Believe it or not, the most dangerous track they race at is Indy, and that was a pretty safe race.
As far as this race goes, unless something bizarre happens, I wont be watching. I had enough predictable penske vs ganassi last year.

But the main thing is, they didn't turn out badly. I don't see how a car hitting the wall like Marco could have turned out badly because cars have slammed into the wall for years, and drivers have been fine. This new car is really safe, but you need to learn to trust it, and trust these ovals. Texas had a caution free race last year, so it's possible it could be caution free again.

I just have some apprehension going into this race. Mainly after Conways crash. Two feet higher, and we would have had a serious injury.

Very excited for this year. Texas normally has great racing.
Anyways, there's a chance for injury at any racetrack at any time for racecar drivers, so I feel the same way I do for most other Indycar races.

The COT and the DW12 are similar in that they are both very safe. But s*** still happens, even the best drivers make mistakes and injuries happen. It can happen in Indycar. It can happen in NASCAR. A very sore and injured man named Eric McClure can attest to that.
The reason that Dan Wheldon died (and Will Power, JR Hildebrand, and Pippa Mann were hurt) was that the wheels of the old Dallaras were unprotected in the back. If a car hits another cars tires it will get airborne. Someone did that to me once in karting. Having Hunter McGrath's wheel wack me on the head was an unpleasant experience. After that, we put a new rear on my Kart. Since then I've been hit, but nobody has ever been lauched like the incident I described. The new DW12s have wheel guards, so Las Vegas will not happen again.
Texas looks like a good race. It will be interesting to see if Dario can go 2 / 2 on ovals. I think he might. He has the talent and the car. Hélio, Briscoe, and Kanaan will also be in the mix. From what I've heard if this event goes well we might see Michigan and even Pocono back on the schedule.
Re: Bombardier Learjet 550k - Izod Indycar series
Penalties assessed to #14 Mike Conway and #78 Simona de Silvestro for unapproved engine changes. Each will receive a 10 spot grid penalty for Texas.

From the words of Dan Wheldon last year, "This race will be intense." Does anyone know why they didn't do the double header event again.

You can say this day has been quite bizarre. First, the pace lap crash in ARCA, now some track employee got hurt from a stage falling apart and the race is delayed as a result. I hope this isn't a hint of a bad night and that all drivers will be safe for this race.

I can't believe how bad Dario is struggling. Not typical of seeing anything like that.
I'm surprised the pack isn't as tight what we're used to seeing. Once they went green, I settled down a little bit. Kind of how I am when I get nervous before the race and once the green drops, it's go time. Not to mention, there's a lot of derping going on in this race, as far as long pit stops and mechanical issues.
