Ryan Baldwell [910] started on the pole. William Kingslee [89] would start on Baldwell's outside.

In addition to starting in the top-5, Kingslee had been the only driver to appear in the top-5 in both practice sessions.

Baldwell and Kingslee starting on the first row showed signs of the effectiveness of the promotion system, as Kingslee and Baldwell were both top performers in the VART.

The green flag run didn't last long as Craig Frye [84] was turned into Eric Reed [35] by Mark Matthews [116] on lap 2.

This left Nico Petrov [02] with nowhere to go as Eric Reed sweeped up in front of him. The 02 car collided with the 116, the 35, and the outside wall once or twice before getting away.

Meanwhile, Matthews lost control of his 116 car after bouncing off of Nico Petrov and then going across the front of Ricky Gonzalez's [95] car. Elena Wagner [11a] just caught Nico Petrov's car as she was driving by the incident, although she did not have much damage.

For some reason, Ryan Baldwell and David Thompson [6] among other drivers came in and pitted. Baldwell and Thompson were running in 1st and 2nd, respectively. The reason I say, 'for some reason' is because these cars would have to make another pit stop in order to finish the race.

This gave the lead to Erik Olsen [31] who had started the race in 4th, and had been looking pretty fast. The top-5 at this point were Olsen, followed by Alno Estvikolla [114], Mac Rhylen [86], Troy Derekson [12], and Thomas Forester [93].

Coming to the restart, Jeff Zindler [01] would have to pit in order to change a flat left rear tire.

On lap 21, Thomas Forester would finally take the lead from Olsen.

During that time, it had been Olsen, Estvikolla, Forester, and Rhylen occupying the first four positions.

Leading the group behind them was Nick Pisani [3] and Ivan Nikolayev [21] who traded 5th-place a few times, but Pisani usually held the position just in front of Nikolayev. Ryan Hall [46], Jerry Rigg [15], Icy Frost [123], Troy Derekson, James Proctor [91], Craig Frye [84], Malcolm Terez [33], Landon Rody [81], and Ricky Gonzalez [95].

After restarting in 19th, Ryan Baldwell had not been able to get back into the top-15 during this time. William Kingslee and most of the other drivers who pitted on lap 3 had a difficult time getting back into the top-20 as well, but James Proctor who started 20th managed to get up to and stay around 15th during this run.

Green flag pitstops started on lap 29, when Mac Rhylen and Troy Derekson pitted from the top-10, Kyle Adams also came in on this lap.

One lap later about half the field pitted, including leader Thomas Forester. Landon Rody took the lead for a lap before pitting, and lead everyone except Elena Wagner onto pitlane. Wagner stayed out until lap 33, when she finally pitted.

When things cycled out, it would be the three-car group of Thomas Forester, Mac Rhylen, and Troy Derekson (in that order) leading the race. Jerry Rigg was running by himself in 4th, while 5th through 8th-place was Icy Frost, Landon Rody, Alno Estvikolla, and Erik Olsen battling it out. This would be especially important as Frost and Olsen would be competing for the second and final part-time transfer slot.

Nick Pisani, Craig Frye, James Proctor, and Elena Wagner, held positions 9-12. Drivers like Pisani and Proctor had shown speed through most of the race, while Craig Frye had a quick pitstop, and Elena Wagner's pit strategy appeared to be working as she now held a transfer position.

The next group consisted of Sammy Howard [80], David Thompson (a part-timer), Kyle Adams, and Eric Reed, and this group would be battling for the last transfer position, at least the full-timers were. David Thompson is the 4th highest-running of 5th part-timers and he would need to make up a lot of ground in order to make the race, even after having a relatively good run today.

WITH ONLY THREE LAPS REMAINING, Troy Derekson's engine blew out while Derekson was running in 2ND POSITION! This was an absolute heartbreak for the 12 team, who had a very strong showing. Derekson would stall on the backstretch and the caution would come out for the second time and end the race.
