2014 Australian Grand Prix

The F1 season begins this weekend!!!

Weather forecast:
Friday: Mostly Sunny - 82F
Saturday: Partly Cloudy - 82F
Sunday: AM Rain, but nothing in the afternoon - 66F

Any bold predictions for this weekend's race?

If it's an attrition race like they keep saying, I'm hoping we see Marussia and Caterham get points.

Mercedes laps the field!

There's a big possibility that nobody will finish because of fuel mileage. And there won't be VETTELWINSLOL!

Ferrari are best on fuel economy, so I would expect a win from Alonso is quite likely.

These F1 cars sound like the current IndyCars. As far as the race is concerned, regardless of what happens, I think we'll be in for a VERY exciting race.

This race is going to be... "interesting"

Hamilton has the pole for the Australian GP with Ricciardo in his first race in a Red Bull on the outside.


This qualifying session was pretty good.

I make a joke that Danil Kvyat is Travis Kvapil and he wrecks. Lol.

I'm hoping K-Mags gets a debut win, but Ricciardo was doing it for Dale in qualifying...

Oh and also, the crowd once again continued their booing antics at Sebastian Vettel as a result of him not making it into Q3.

When you're in the same team as the only Australian driver in the Aussie Grand Prix, you aren't going to be cheered. ESPECIALLY after he put that massive screw job on Webber in Malaysia last year

Marussias and Caterhams not a second or two off the pace from the established teams?!?  Lotuses driving like Indy Cars?!?  Toro Rosso's outqualifying Sebastian Vettel?!?

Bit of a chaotic start...

Crazy start. Hamilton's already out. Rosberg, Ricciardo, Magnussen in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I can't imagine how crazy things will get from here.

And now Vettel's out!

I was honestly expecting a closer battle for the lead but it was still a good race. Good runs for Ricciardo and Magnussen, as well as Bottas.

Good race. Pure madness in the start but eventually calmed down.

Nico Rosberg with dominating performance, nice to see him run well. Daniel Riccardo on the podium...I expected it to happen eventually but not straight out of the gate and KEVIN MAGNUSSEN...I didn't see that coming at all.

Driver of the race... Valtteri Bottas... Climbed through the field, had to pit, and climbed through the field again.

Imagine if he didn't hit the wall

First podium for a Danish driver, and I have a feeling we'll be seeing more.

Red Bull are appealing the disqualification. As much as I dislike Red Bull and their personnel, I do feel bad for Riccardo as it was a situation that was out of his control.
At his home Grand Prix no less!
But considering the FIA said there would be strict fuel limitations, you would think they wouldn't take any chances...

Well, Ricciardo has been excluded from the Australian GP after the fuel failure.

Good job, Red Bull...now you've forced me to re-do my constructor's standings!

All to no avail, all that effort put into by Ricciardo is now wasted. But judging by how quick he was, I won't be surprised to see him get his first win very soon.

RBR have said they're appealing, so this isn't quite over...

"The team has notified the FIA of its intention to appeal with immediate effect. Inconsistencies with the FIA fuel flow meter have been prevalent all weekend up and down the pitlane.

Valterri Bottas is one to watch in the years to come. He obviously got help from the safety car his wheel brought out, but he went from 16th to 5th.

Glad it was the somewhat likable Silver Arrows driver that took the checkers!

No chance of Ricciardo's DSQ being appealed. It's Red Bull's own damn fault - they were told by the FIA about the problem and ignored them. Massive shame for Ricciardo.

As for Kevin Magnussen, well, he didn't win, but I had pretty high expectations of him this race, and he met them.

Great win for Rosberg. And thankfully everyone calmed down after the craziness that was the first few laps.

Bottas definitely impressed today too. He seemed like he had the only car that could pass, then he hit the wall, brings out a safety car, and passes everyone again. This might bode well for Williams.

I haven't seen a highlight reel of the race yet, but it seems like Magnussen's podium finish is more popular than the actual race winner. It's impressive, though, no doubt about it.

If wasn't Kobaysashi, Felipe's run would be perfect. There wasn't rain and he and Valteri were together.

Initially I had thought Ferrari had the best car for the race and slower for qualifying, in fact Mercedes is all around too good.
