So it's Formula 1-style knockout Q then.
I can live with this.

The possibilities for teams to be dicks to each other in Q1 are endless. Bring this system on!

Too bad it won't be in place for the 500, but it should be in place for the first Nationwide race of the season.

This is okay. But for the Daytona 500, Coke 600, Southern 500 and the Brickyard 400, why don't they do what you guys did on the TM Canon? That I would love, but that's IMHO.

Does it say anything about drafting on plate tracks?

This is a step forward.
Too bad the points revamp was a lightyear back.

I like this much better than whatever the hell Brian France was thinking in revamping the Chase. It might take some getting used to, but I like it.

Seeing this format being put into place for the plate races and the short tracks should be quite interesting.

I'm for it, thought like others have said, I can see the potential for some real screwy stuff happening.

Re: NASCAR Changes Qualifying Procedure
I don't think I'll like this system any more or less than the previous one, but for the sake of change, I'm definately okay with it.
My only minor concern is the superspeedways. With drafting being crucial for lap times and all, will we need to worry about potential race winning cars from the likes of Tommy Baldwin or Front Row not finding a good drafting pack or something like that and missing the race, or should we expect the drivers who make/miss the race to be about the same?

I've always thought nascar should go to group qualifying. Single car runs at the restrictor plate tracks are completely irrelevant.

Maybe it'll be more or less Gatorade duels, but for Restrictor plate events other then the 500.

ARCA is following the same procedure.

I think you misread it. It says that ARCA is going to use the European style qualifying, where the cars go out in groups based off practice speeds.
ARCARacing.Com wrote:In addition, the ARCA Series drivers will introduce a new qualifying procedure where teams will qualify together for added excitement. Instead of one car going against the clock, the cars will be placed into groups based on their speeds from Friday morning's practice session. The fastest lap during qualifying, which will surely showcase drafting, will determine each car's numerical starting position in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 on Saturday.
