Re: Race 11 (150 Laps of Dwyer)
- Spoiler:
- Delgado None Too Happy With Backmarkers, Revenge Planned at Rockford
Tom Delgado's night at the Dwyer Speedpark started very well with him starting 2nd, but unfortunately it ended with a few vicious barrel rolls. Incidents with Gary DeSouza and Jared Andersen had Delgado absolutely fuming, and he made his frustration very clear.
"When you have a bunch of career rejects ruin your night, do you expect me to be happy?" Delgado asked a reporter after he made his way back to the garage. "We started so well and to have it all end like this feels like a complete waste of our time. Gold Star & MRD Motorsports deserved a lot better than to fall out early thanks to the incompetence of others" Delgado said frustratingly.
When asked about whether or not Delgado and Azuma Kazeyama will be back at Rockford, Delgado was more upbeat. "For sure. Zuzu never got a chance to step onto the track this week, and I gotta make it up to him now, so we're gonna get to work and come up with a car for him to run. I don't forget, nor do I forgive. Gary (DeSouza) & Jared (Andersen) better watch their backs when we get there. I'm fine, but they probably won't be" Delgado said angrily before he and Kazeyama got on top of the #17's pit box to watch Joseph Howard's progress.

Ceej, if you don't mind me asking, what was the intention behind the camera technical difficulties?

Re: Race 11 (150 Laps of Dwyer)
- Spoiler:
- Griffin disappointed by early exit from Dwyer, but looks on the bright side
The excitement Ryan Griffin felt after making the 150 Dwyer disappeared after contact with Rachel Gonzalez left the #35 on its roof and out of the event.
Yet despite the early exit, Griffin was quick to accept blame when asked by reporter about the incident.
"It's 100% my fault. I thought I had her [Rachel] cleared and I didn't and unfortunately it ended up with two torn up race cars. I saw Rachel in the care center and we talked it over so I think everything is ok as of now."
Griffin despite the early exit also had a small smile on his face. When asked by reporters why, he had this to say:
"Why not have a smile on my face? We were good enough to make that race and that is the #1 goal of any team is to make the Dwyer race. To us this is our Decatur or Karjala, it is a race that you just want to the opportunity to run in. No matter how long you go. Yes, I wanted to run the distance and maybe have a shot at a top 10, top 5, or win but just to be able to run this race is enough to make me happy."
Re: Race 11 (150 Laps of Dwyer)
- Spoiler:
- Harrison jumps 11 points positions after Dwyer
After running only in the mere 20's for a majority of the night, Amy Harrison capitalized on the cars that failed to make the show and jumped 11 spots in the points from 30th at Albuquerque to 19th. After the race Harrison explained the whole strategy; "If we could make the show and have other cars who are close to us in points not make it, all we would have to do is keep our car in one piece and we'll shoot up in the rankings."
Patrick James Jr, who was Harrison's relief driver, wasn't too pleased with how the car was handling during his stint; "The main key here was to keep the car in one piece which we managed to do so, but for pete's sake, actually drive the car hard just a little bit to keep up with the competition."
After Dwyer last season, Amy Harrison was 16th in points with one top-10 and 4 DNF's, after THIS year's running of Dwyer she stands 19th with one top-10 and only 2 DNF's. It was also by this point last year Harrison made the last-season charge to her 7th place points finish. So is this the turning point for Amy Harrison's nearly dead 2011 season, we'll see as the races wind down. A couple tracks to keep an eye out for Harrison would be Decatur where she finished 8th last year and the Rockford finale where she finished a career best 2nd.

Howard and Foster Score for the Good Ol' Boys
To some, the pairing of former TM Master Cup champions Joseph Howard and Alan Foster was an ultimate combination of early 1990s racing superstars. The performance of the Howard/Foster pairing was in many respects the opposite of the performance put on by MRD team owner Tom Delgado, who crashed earlier in the race.
"I know and Alan knows that in order to finish the race in first, you have to make it to the end, so we just focused on that." Howard said after the race.
"Alan was the ideal pick to run this race because he and Benny Dwyer won their class at Le Mans 25 years ago and he's not going to crash doing something stupid."
"Car ran real good, I was real proud of the guys." Foster said after the race.
"Joseph talked me into running this because 85% of all Nemoto Celeroxes on the road are built in America."

Morales and Leckliter ok with finish
"I've never been good on road courses, just happy we kept the car on the track" said Leckliter, who despite claiming to be terrible at road courses, had a career high of 3rd in the 2008 Round of Belgium in the TM Master Cup series. "I plan on bringing back the #56 back for Rockford, and hopefully get a part-time ride next year"
"Daniel ran great out there all night, if Kenn keeps me on the team, and if he allows it again next year, I would be happy if he can do it again next year." Scott Morales said with a smile. "We had a mediocre year this year, but finishing Dwyer itself is satisfying."

Re: Race 11 (150 Laps of Dwyer)
- Spoiler:
- Santos impresses in debut; Rockford next?
At first, Full Throttle Racing planned on running Dwyer, and that was it. Their chance of making the race was very slim, especially with a nineteen year old behind the wheel, trying to make his debut. However, Henry Santos made the show, despite being in an incident in the main qualifier. He started 28th, but looked strong. Before his lap one wreck with Gary DeSouza, that is. Santos explained what happened. "I was trying to make up the time I lost in qualifying, and just carried too much speed getting out of the esses. At first, I was apologetic to Gary (DeSouza, #149) for wrecking him."
Despite taking rear-end damage, he stayed on the lead lap and remained competative. On the final lap, the leaders caught Santos to put him one lap down, at a bad time, Santos says. "First off, I want to say I'm sorry that I may have affected Underwood's chance at winning. DeSouza apparently was still angry at me for the lap one incident that occured, and he kept blocking me, so I lost tons of time. I was trying to stay on the lead lap, but the #149, who was five laps off at the time and off the pace, wouldn't let me go. Allie (Riggs) and Dale (Underwood) might have not caught me at all if it weren't for the 149. I will not apologize to DeSouza, because I also heard that he ended Delgado's day as well and got called to the hauler."
Despite all of this, Santos finished 12th, one lap down in his debut. Are future plans to come? FTR announced that they now plan to run Rockford with the x2, and maybe a second, identical car for Santos' relief driver, Jason Harrison.

Re: Race 11 (150 Laps of Dwyer)
(OOC: Cool deal...I was just asking.)
- Spoiler:
- Matthews rallies from mistake to Top 10 finish, will donate race winnings:
While most drivers would be ecstatic with a top-10 finish in their maiden race, Tiffany Matthews wasn't.
She was more disappointed in herself.
"I still can't believe Anthony (Griffith) and I got together like that," she said in post-race comments. "Funny thing is, I'd been driving that line through there the whole race. We'll have to look at the telemetry to see what exactly happened there. Those sorts of things happen, I guess.
"I'm just mad at myself," she added. "We had a car that could've easily finished top-five, or even won this thing. But to finish in the top-10 in my first ARLA race is quite an achievement."
Matthews also gave a shout-out to race winner Allie Riggs.
"Allie raced her butt off," she said. "I'm so happy for her to pull this win off considering what her family's been through with Leslie's accident. It's been an honor racing with her this week. I'm hoping we get to race again at Rockford."
Then, she looked at car owner Ryan Matthews and said, "We are going to Rockford, aren't we, babe?"
"Why not," he said with a smile on his face.
Matthews closed her remarks by announcing she'd donate her race winnings to help offset Leslie Riggs' medical expenses.
"This is something Ryan and I discussed before the week started," she explained. "I was interested in that ride that Leslie ended up getting. When we saw what happened to her, we both felt we needed to do something. If there's one thing racers do, it's help other racers. I didn't want to say anything earlier on in qualifying because I wasn't sure if we were going to get in the race. Once we did, it became a no-brainer."
She added that they would do something similar for fellow VSCC part-timer Woody Watts, who was also injured in the crash at Daytona, probably at the VSCC's Karjala round - provided of course, either one of both of the Matthewses make the race.
For now, though, Tiffany will bask in the glow of a sparkling ARLA debut.

These penalties might be different becuase LaVerne got involved in a 2nd accident with the same car she hit in the pits

Re: Race 11 (150 Laps of Dwyer)
- Spoiler:
- Recarmier gets finishes 13th after controversy on ride buying
One of the main stories around Dwyer Speedpark was the fact that Rene Recarmier managed to get onto the grid buying out the Math Motors call.
"I race with no heart."Recarmier said in an interview during his break in which Janet Inman took over,"I seriously did not feel like racing, but I had to.Even I can sense area around #0 pit area unusually dull.Even car does not seem like it want to race.Lost cylinder like losing part of heart."
Recarmier did not escape controversial incidents during the race, either. He was issued a warning for dumping Leigh Gruell hard into the outside wall. When questioned he said,
"I do not know what happen.I caught on outside, maybe I megre down little bit, maybe,I take fault for that.Sorry Grul...Greul...I cannot seem to pronounce his name right..."
Despite all this and getting involved in an incident with Brenda Riggs,he still managed to finish 13th and maintain joint second in points.
DeSouza sorry for "stupid incidents".
Despite Rene Recarmier serving up a storm of controversy around the Whiper-Ildest garage pre-race,it was his teammate Gary DeSouza who served up a feast of controversy during the race.First was his early race off with Henry Santos in which he merged dangerously back onto the track, almost into Todd Wodarcyk. His next incident was taking out the top 2,Marcos Leonard and Tom Delgado,as he was being put a lap down. Finally, his day almost came to a horrific end when he made contact with Santos again while trying to let Allie Riggs and Dale Underwood by.
"I feel really sorry for that first incident. The impact with the wall sort of mangled the steering for a little while.By the time I got it back into shape,Wodarcyk came flying by on my right.I'm sorry. For the second incident i might have overcooked it on the inside when going three-wide.Got a bit too panicky there. But I defend my case as I was trying to hug the inside, lost a bit of control and went into the leaders. That third and final incident I do not take blame.I was right ahead of the leaders into Goliath and tried to make a move to the outside, but Santos was there.I thought I had him cleared...but instead I got hooked."Just bad, crap luck for me today."

Re: Race 11 (150 Laps of Dwyer)
- Spoiler:
- Kazeyama's Day ends before it began.
Azuma Kazeyama was looking forward to taking a step in a car on race day for the first time in under 6 months. However his chance ended before the first round of pitstops.
"I had everything planned out, I know we had the car that could win this, I wanted to prove again that I the "crash-and-drama" name I got last season was a thing of the past, and I didn't even get to prove that today."
Kazeyama was seen hitting the pitbox during the first incident when main driver Tom Delgado, Marcos Leonard, and Gary DeSouza got together, knowing that the drive would be a long one. After Delgado's incident with Jared Anderson he simply headbutted the pitbox out of frustration.
"I will be back for Rockford, I know that. And Now with Indy coming up I have to go through all this once again."
Madrigal, Graham's day end in smoke
Michael Madrigal had a car that he said was the one to beat at Dwyer.
When he turned the car over to Jessica Graham however, the car would go up in smoke as the engine went go.
"Easy come easy go I suppose...I'm really sorry for Jess, I mean she was doing fine in her second Elite series race but somethings are out of our control I guess. All we can do is exit and rebound for the next race."
Graham had similar words
"I'd really want to thank Mike for givine me this chance, it's not the way we wanted to go out but, I can at least say I drove ARLA's famed 64 even if it was for a short amount of time...
Graham returns to her VSCC duties, Madrigal is off to the next ARLA race.

Was it just me, or did the cars not get (as) airborne entering the pits this time around?
