Died.
Lost Legs.
Retired.

That's most likely why they didn't run

Yet Zanardi continues in WTCC. He's a hero for most people, just for courage.

That's bull, how can you disqualify someone for not having a weight on a mirror?
Probably has a bit of a fear of coming back to racing Open-wheel though or something like that.

Silly rules are silly. Should've just had an on-board camera. Razz

Yes, that has happened to many, today you see Felipe Massa having fear.

Alta,

Moore, Zanardi, and Blundell all raced in CART when the IRL occupied the 500. If it wasn't for the IRL, those guys would have raced for sure at Indy.

Don't know if anyone is watching live timing and scoring on indycar.com, but they have video over there and Ed Carpenter had a really bad wreck. The car spun off of turn 2, then went onto its side with the top part of the car hitting the wall. He is okay though.

It was really scary.

Ed's had a rough month. He can't seem to find a handle on his car. (Carp's my favorite driver btw.)

Fixed. Also, Saavedra made a run and missed after a mistake, Conway bumped Bourdais, and now Jakes bumps Conway and almost beat Franchitti. Katherine Legge's team won rejects of the day so far. Legge was on a qualifying run, but since her pit crew were not at the pit wall where they are supposed to be, she got disallowed. Each team needs at least one pit crew member to be in that gap in the outside pit wall to give instructions on when to start the qualifying run. Since they had no one, the run was disallowed.

More of less explaining why they can't run today.

Carpenter's smash looks a lot similar to Rick Mears wreck in the 90's. Shows you how far saftey has came as he's okay.

Rumor has it that There is another car/engine ready to go for someone if they can get the money. There are still 2 more packages being thrown together for tomorrow to bump out a Lotus, depending on if anyone blows a Chevy motor between then.

Pippa Mann tried to get a deal together, but it fell through.

The #21 car for Ed Carpenter has not run a lap yet this month. I'm guessing that was the car Pippa tried to get.

Jay Howard's money is probably a bit more attractive than Pippa's...

All I could say is... Surprised

I wonder what the grid penalties will be for the Indy 500.

Forecast calls for 95 degree temperatures for the Indy 500. This could play an interesting role in the race.

actually, he isn't far off the truth. at 220 mph there are a lot of ways to get hurt at Indy. I'm usually quite nervous during the 500 hoping everyone will get out ok. Even just a few years ago, hitting the wall in the corners meant a concussion by default

I mean yes this always the possibility but i think everyone's overreacting a little bit. Unlike Vegas...Indy's much wider and has room to spread out.

We've had 3 hard hits this month and everyone's got out fine. The new car has been gaining it's stripes so far this month.

Look at Thursday's FIL race (can't watch in Canada) but by looking at the highlights after the three car wreck, if anyone gets hurt in today's race, I'd be very surprised.
