- Delgado Applauds Officials for Abandoning Event After Freestone Horror Incident
Watching on top of the #37 pitbox, Tom Delgado had a good look at the crash involving the #85 of Mark Freestone. Watching replays of the crash left Delgado distraught, yet at the same time glad that ARLA officials made the right call.
"There's no way they could have continued, it was the right call to make. Me and Ashley (Tucker) were watching the crash together during the red flag, and I could just see the emotion on her face. On behalf of MRD Motorsports, I'd like to send my thoughts and prayers to Mark Freestone and his family, and hope for the best. I fear the worst though, because that crash was absolutely vicious. Nothing matters right now, we're all praying for Mark" Delgado said when approached for a comment before he went to the official's hauler to try and get any updates.

Re: 2012 Race 2: Radii 300
- Spoiler:
- Cranston not speaking after Freestone incident
Lane Cranston was running second, with a shot at leader Edwin Schwarzloski, when he and the 85 car of Mark Freestone made contact, sending the 85 car hard into the SAFER Barrier, causing him to come back up onto the track, before getting hit hard by Mike Andrews, severely injuring this week's M-Pire Drive the Dream racer. Cranston managed to get back onto the racing line without being hit by anyone else. The race order was wiped out, and the race abandoned.
Cranston did not have anything to say following the accident, nor did MT Motorsports owner Fred Caldwell.
Everyone is currently awaiting word on Mark Freestone's condition.

- Spoiler:
- Ward in shock after seeing accident
ARLA part timer Barney Ward was in the garage with his team watching the very moment the 85 car suffered its nightmare crash. After seeing all the replays of the crash, he was eventually able to let some words out of his mouth in an interview soon after ARLA officials decided to abandon the rest of the event.
"What can I say about this? Absolutely horrific. I feel do sorry for the M-Pire team as this is their first year in ARLA and this is not what they needed. To be fair it's certainly not what I needed either. I was so looking forward to finally making my first start as the Smash Beer 400 was postponed due to the tornado that wrecked the Dallas Speedpark track, so I guess I'm just gonna have to wait until the round of Road America comes. Right now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Mark Freestone, just praying for good news."
Re: 2012 Race 2: Radii 300
- Spoiler:
- DeSouza worried about Freestone
Gary DeSouza had a good run going on in the #149 before being turned into the wall in the first caution of the day, which saw Vijay Pushanda launch off his car after being hit by A.J Young. The incident which got everybody scared, though, was the #85 of Mark Freestone, the M-Pire Drive the Dream winner for the race, being pitched into the wall by Lane Cranston before being hit by Mike Andrews, sending him barrel-rolling in the catchfence.
"I just have nothing to say.I don't care about how I finished.I don't care about how I crashed.I don't even care about the recent engine fiascos.I just hope Mark is OK.",said DeSouza after the race was halted.

- Devereux Slams Super-Speedway Races in ARLA
Date: Feb. 25, 2012
During final practice for tomorrow's TM Master Cup Series season opener, various TM Master Cup Series drivers were asked about the events in Talladega for the ARLA race. TM Master Cup Series champion Adrien Devereux was critical of the ARLA officials after a crash left M-Pire Drive the Dream driver Mark Freestone critically injured.
"Those cars aren't meant for more than 140 miles per hour, to run them at Talladega is just stupid. That track is not meant for any modern race cars." Devereux said.
Devereux has long been critical of Talladega Superspeedway and the similar Daytona International Speedway, infamously sitting out as much of the practice sessions for both tracks as much as possible. Devereux's major concern at both facilities was driver safety.
"It was just a racing incident between two drivers, but if ARLA bothered to make a safe car then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Those cars are too unsafe, and too easy to drive... that's why I never went there... a little racing incident shouldn't put someone out of racing for the season or worse."
The Frenchman will start his title defense in the Round of Las Vegas for Hodges-Walter Racing on Sunday.

- Matthews OK after crash, concerned for Freestone:
Tiffany Matthews left the infield care center at Talladega Superspeedway shaking her head and with a glum look on her face.
She was an innocent bystander in the Lap 50 accident that severely injured Team M-Pire driver Mark Freestone.
"I'm in no mood to talk about the race," she said. "I'm just really worried about Mark. That was one of the scariest incidents I've ever seen in all my years of racing. My goodness..."
She also commented on the officials' decision to halt the race.
"That's the right call," she said. "I understand they wiped the results, too. I hate to be negative, but the last time that happened..."
Her voice trailed off, almost not wanting to complete the sentence.
She then returned to the team's hauler.

- Pushanda dystroys Talladega
After a huge crash, Pushanda was airlifted to a hospital. Then Mark Freestone has a huge accedent, lets just say he was none to happy about the crash. "Daytona was much more calm then this, I mean why in the world do we all think it is ok to race like this, on a track which is even faster no less. We have seen this before at this place, it is a deathtrap, with speeds this high, you can expect somthing severe is going to happen. I almost was killed out there, and I god hope that Freestone is ok after that crash."

- Spoiler:
- Power Expresses Concerns at Talladega; Takes Unpopular Position on Wiping Race Results
Power Steering Incorporated owner William Power was interviewed shortly after the Radii 300 had been officially called and the results wiped.
"I've been concerned with the weight of the cars for some time. They seem to get airborne, a little or a lot, with every single crash. I'm also concerned about flying debris being launched into other cars and especially into the grandstands. ARLA was just plain lucky no one was severely injured in the stands at the Rookie Shootout a couple of weeks ago. When these cars take a hit, they just seem to explode with such force and shrapnel goes flying. Don't even get me started with the M-Pire promotion fiasco."
When asked about the wiping of the race results, Power took an unconventional stance. "First, I want to say that we're all praying for both Freestone and Pushanda. But, and this is just me talking here, but I'm going to take the stance that the wiping of the results of that race was the wrong thing to do. I feel it's a complete disservice to Freestone or any other driver for that matter. Everyone out there on that grid had a job to do and they did it. It was a knee-jerk reaction. To delete their efforts from the record books is an injustice to their efforts. And God forbid, if the worst happens, it just doesn't seem right that it happened when nothing counted-- like it was in vain or something. I don't know if anyone else will agree with that old school philosophy or not, but I'm prepared to hear the chorus of boos reign down on my controversial statement. That's just how I honestly feel about that issue."

- Madrigal nerved after seeing incident
Watching from the garage as Race 1 was about to end and Race 2 where he would take part was about to set up, like everyone around, Madrigal was in shock after seeing the horrible crash on Lap 50 that sent M-Pire Drive the Dream driver Mark Freestone to the hospital with Major injuries.
"That was disgusting to watch. I...I really hope Mark is alright, no driver should have to suffer that kind of wreck no matter how much experience they had. I really hope he survives...
Graham startled from seeing incident.
Graham was right there with Madrigal when she viewed the incident, her expressions were even more worrisome.
"T..that was just too much, I..I mean that was just REAL bad to see. I hope he's alright, I'm scared for him."
While she was scared, she was now even more concerned with M-Pire's program.
"How will this look for that team, if someone that '[Drove] the Dream' ended up having to suffer their worst nightmare?!. The only real option for them is to discontinue the program, the drivers in their car have no experience, it's just their customers..they shouldn't have to put their customers at risk just for a promotion."

- Spoiler:
- More defends Talladega upset with Devereux's comments
After the Freestone accident and the race flag and calling of the race, GLM's Jim More exited his car and immediately asked to see a replay of the incident. More who has an engineering background discussed the incident with his engineers and Ike Durbin who owns a car in the series.
Afterword he spoke with a radio commentator about the crash:
"It's not pretty. I'm more concerned with the initial hit into the barrier then the second hit from the other car. I've been in racing for nearly 25 years and have never seen a lick like that. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Freestone family. I want to be optimistic, but the engineer in me is telling me this is not good."
A few minutes later More responded to the comments made by defending TM Master Cup Series champion Adrien Devereux:
"I think Mr. Devereux needs to learn what is a little incident. That was not a little incident first of all. Second, the cars can only do so much. A driver has to understand that sometimes just letting off a little bit can make a difference. In fact, the first crash should not have happened. I think these guys are going to hard too early and that's what is causing these incidents."

Freestone stabilized, M-Pire suspends operations
After hours of crossed fingers and held breaths, it has been reported that 42 year-old Mark Freestone's medical condition has stabilized after his horrific accident at Talladega earlier this afternoon.
Freestone, participating in M-Pire Rent-A-Car's "Drive the Dream" program, struck the inside wall at approximately 220 MPH with 8 laps left in the race. The race was called and the results wiped amidst fears that Freestone had suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident, but doctors are happy to announce that Freestone is still with us, although there are still many concerns about his future.
In the aftermath of the accident, Team M-Pire has announced that the team will suspend its operations for at least the next few races, supposedly to reconfirm whether or not their scheduled drivers really wish to compete, given the dangers of the sport. M-Pire representatives declined to comment further.
ARLA officials reported that Talladega will not be rescheduled, and are unsure about the track's future on the calendar.

Re: 2012 Race 2: Radii 300
I think something needs to be done to the cars. They need to have some kind of adjustment to them to be slightly slower. When I mean by that, I mean that if Mark Freestonewas going at about 185 or 190mph, the impact with the SAFER Barrier probably wouldn't have been particularly bad as it was. In this way to slow the cars down, they will be safer. I don't think that it was the track itself that was the cause of this crash, its just how fast those cars were going, cos' he hit that wall at about 208mph. (sorry I went on too long)

- Brinson "horrified" by Talladega incident, berates series officials
After witnessing Mark Freestone's gruesome crash at the Talladega Superspeedway on OEMTV this weekend, ARLA team owner Matthew Brinson came out and condemned series officials for allowing the event to continue despite excessive speeds in both practice and qualifying
"It was absolutely ridiculous to have cars run that fast around a track such as Talladega, especially when everyone is running bumper to bumper throughout the field" Brinson said. "They were literally asking for trouble. These circumstances could have been easily avoided through common sense, yet all that matters to ARLA is putting on a freak show of 3 wide for the fans." He went on to say that use of larger restrictor plates would have easily slowed the cars down suitable speeds.
Brinson also criticized ARLA's decision to allow M-Pire to run a completely inexperienced driver at a track of such nature.
"You don't go and have someone run a superspeedway race who has never even stepped foot in a race car to begin with. I can understand doing something like this at a short track where the speeds are far less of a concern, but allowing someone with absolutely no racing experience to compete at Talladega is beyond me. Because of the governing body's ignorance, we are left with a man laying crippled in the hospital fighting just to stay alive. It's absolutely ridiculous and I'm horrified to be quite frank. I just don't get why something like this was allowed to even happen"
Brinson Enterprises will make their ARLA debut this weekend at the Carbondale Speedway in Illinois. In memoriam to Freestone, a special emblem will adorn the A-Pillar of the #12 Fancy-Ass Pens Kivett.

- " This.... this is ridiculous, Racing at speeds such as 220 MPH....WHY??? Why couldn't we just use restrictor plates for superspeedway races, when technology is advancing throughout the years, why couldn't ARLA use restrictor plates on cars like all of the other leagues such as the TM Master Cup Series?! These wrecks are something you'd see in a speed hack of a simulation game!"said Dan Meyato after seeing Mark Freestone devastating wreck.

But I agree with Will Power in that they should not have wiped the race results, because it made the running of the race completely meaningless, and all it did was cost the teams a lot of money. They should've called the race, but kept the results, and allowed race 2 to happen. Some of these teams can't afford this kind of thing to happen again.
"Well, I'm glad someone else finally showed some intestinal fortitude when speaking out on the issue of wiping the race results," Will Power stated. "And all of us here at PSI are still continuing to pull for Mark Freestone to recover."

Re: 2012 Race 2: Radii 300
here's one thing I don't exactly get. The current cars of ARLA have already had a very serious accident and Freestone's condition had not been updated yet, but I say that theses cars to me feel very unsafe and have more realistic damage n them which makes the crashes look a lot worse than first thought. Something needs to be done to make the cars slower and safer and hopefully not have anything big like that happen again.
Re: 2012 Race 2: Radii 300
I agree with BWard here. These are pretty cool to look at (well, maybe not all of them), I know this series is a simulation but something needs to be done with the cars.
