Radii Radiators 300 Pre-Race
"Overtime" to be implemented at Rockford
A new rule requiring races to end under green-flag conditions will be implemented in both of the ARLA national touring series, starting at the Rockford 200.
Under the "overtime" rule, if a race is projected to end under yellow, the race will immediately be red-flagged and teams will be given 10 minutes to repair cosmetic damage to their cars. Lapped cars will be moved to the back of the field, and the race will then be restarted with 2 laps remaining.
If the yellow flag flies before the white flag, the race will be restarted as many times as is necessary to ensure a green-flag finish. If the yellow flag flies after the leaders begin the final lap, they will be allowed to race back to the checkered flag.
Double-file restarts abolished at speedways
In an effort to prevent lapped cars from impeding the leaders at high-speed tracks, all restarts at tracks longer than 1 mile will be single-file starting with the Radii Radiators 300.
Previously, the lead-lap cars would restart on the outside line, with lapped cars restarting on the inside. This would provide lapped cars that were still competitive the opportunity to race their way back onto the lead lap. However, ARLA executives felt that the need to prevent interference from lapped cars was greater.
