Re: 2016 PCC Cup: Race 7: Mansfield
- Spoiler:
- Disappointment on the face of Casey Lester was about the easiest emotion to decipher as he exited his totaled #82 Snickers Calton-Morel Nova, finishing 33rd after completing 79 laps of 250 in the Mansfield GP. The former Cup Series competitor had high hopes coming into the event after finishing 6th in his Tier 1 race and, therefore, starting 6th in the race. He has one more Cup attempt and a PCC Europe event on his calendar, but a solid result at one of the biggest events in the series would have done a lot of good for his confidence.
"Just sucks. We spent so much work this weekend on the setup to get it right and go the distance, but backmarkers had other plans for us. Just hate it for the guys on this 82 team. A.J. [Murphy] was caught up not too far after, I saw, so that's a bad day at the shop for the whole group. Nothing's set in stone for Cleveland yet, but it's all up to the team. They gave me a great car and it was fun before Kirkpatrick and his guys got in the way. Onto the next one, I suppose."
Barry Juveno declined any media personnel following his retirement due to engine expiration, apparently yelling loudly at his crew in the garage before tossing his helmet at several members of his crew standing in the garage area and abruptly leaving the track. It is unknown if Stephans Racing will issue any discipline for this.
"Not quite what I had in mind," 18th-place Lenny Jacobs told a very small scrum of about three reporters. "...tell you what, there's hardly a soul on that racetrack today who was happy with the race, but I'll settle for a finish outta today. That was HARD. The lap guys were really slow, slower than I've seen in quite some time. Maybe it's just how small Mansfield is. Paloma shows every week why they're one of the best by keeping it together when it matters and yeah, that tire went down, but there was a bit of debris and stuff everyone ran over. Ours happened to get the right front. The crew behind me always keeps this machine running and hopefully, we can get ourselves a win pretty soon."
Debutante Austen Terry was also not available for comment after he plowed into the same wreck that claimed Daniel Leckliter, Casey Lester, A.J. Murphy and Matt Contey. His father Don did not appear too impressed and probably just took back his credit card or something so Austen can't buy more Red Bull and flatbrim hats.

Re: 2016 PCC Cup: Race 7: Mansfield
- Derrike Chaiter's debut:
- Derrike Chaiter, of Brisbane, Australia managed to squeak his way into the most prestigious event of Mansfield. He would start deep in the field as he would make his way in from the third qualifier.
Pre-race press release from Chaiter: "Aye lads, I am happy to be here. I had a whale of a time qualifying for this here race, and I am hopeful for this one. I am a bit wary however, I be keeping my head cool as I know that this race will be very attrition filled.
If I keep my head clean and clear, I will likely gain some points and some traction to get my name known in this series." He then would go on to say "I 'ave to tell you all. I am very excited for this race, but it worries me slightly these speeds we're taking on a small oval and no cautions. Not only would a wreck cause you a wail of issues, there are no cautions which will see for debris littering the track and many cut tyres....that'll send you miles out of the pack. I wish everyone the best luck out there. Wish me luck as well....we're going green in ten."
Derrike Chaiter's car would be slow immediately, and it was clear that he would have no chance keeping up with the leaders, but it was also apparent that he would have to stay strategic and carefully slither and slink his way through the chaos of wrecked cars left and right, dreadfully slow lapped cars, and the impending next lap down.
Chaiter had a couple close cars as cars seemed to wreck right around him or in front of him and he went many, many laps down but he would pursue his task in front of him with a comfortable amount of steam and finish 19th on his debut.
"That was one of the most wreck filled races I have ever been in..." he began post race.
"How many wrecks were there? It felt like every other lap I be circling around and there'd be another wreck. Wreck after wreck and no cautions with some serious wrecks I thought....debris littering the track mates...it is a literal miracle that I be in one piece and no tyres lost. There be several close calls. I nearly got involved in several accidents...aye."
"It certainly was not helped by those brutally slow lapped and chaos-battered cars. I, too, was a lapped car, but I was being kind and cautious. There be a whole bunch of stupidity with this race. Lads, this be by far the worst, most vein-bulging race I have ever partaken in. It was fun as hell, but I be still not likin' it. I be unsure whether or not I will come back to this track if they do not do cautions again. Good bloody hell..."
Obviously displeased with officials he then went on with a little bit of caress in his word choice "Even if this race be horrendous, I be proud of my result and the driving by some here. There were several great passes and racing out there and I do have to give props to me bud, Michaels. Well done out there, lad." he said. "Even if I be confused on this here race, I more than likely will show up here again, but I be no more happy with no cautions!"
Derrike Chaiter, who has a career in TMMC wants to also start one here. You'll potentially see him back at the next one-off event. See you there!
