Here we go again

I'm a huge football nut, so the college football season can't come soon enough for me (I enjoy it more than the NFL). Last season ended with an AMAZING National Championship game where Clemson beat Alabama 35-31 on a last second touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow from now Houston Texan Deshaun Watson. Now it is a brand new season, with teams now reviving their playoff aspirations.

PRESEASON RANKINGS:

In addition to the upcoming games this week, there were also some "week 0" games yesterday. Here were the results

Thursday was officially opening night for the college football season. Some notable games were Ohio State beating Indiana 49-21 (damn) and Oklahoma State beating Tulsa 59-24. We also had our first FCS over FBS upset as well, as Tennessee State beat Georgia State 17-10

Wow, what happened last night...

UCLA completed one of the greatest comebacks in college football history last night. After being down 44-10 in the fourth quarter against Texas A&M, UCLA came back to win 45-44. The final touchdown pass came on a fake spike. Virginia Tech also beat West Virginia 31-24 last night.

There is one more week 1 game on tonight, and that is Georgia Tech and #25 Tennessee facing each other. I think Georgia Tech will win, and happy labor day!

Hurricane Irma has put a dent in the whole college football season, as Miami FL - Arkansas State, UL Monroe - Florida State, and Northern Colorado - Florida have all been cancelled. South Florida - Connecticut has been postponed, but not officially cancelled yet. However, in a situation like this, it's more important than football. It's the well-being of these player's homes and families. Expect more games in the coming weeks involving Florida teams to be postponed or cancelled, as Hurricane Irma could cause stadium/university damage to some of these campuses.

With that said, pray for the victims of Hurricane Irma.

I'm pretty sure that everyone outside the fans of those teams feel that way, including me. I don't want it to happen either (I don't even want both teams to make the playoffs tbh), but I think it might be inevitable. Still a lot of football to play though.

I usually don't post updates in the middle of the gameday, but we just had an insane game

Western Michigan defeated Buffalo 71-68 in 7 overtimes

I don't care if they are small schools, that is game of the year so far (I watched most of the game, was incredible)

This was considered targeting, even though he hit him with the shoulder and leaned his head to the side. It was a brutal hit, but it wasn't targeting.

Targeting is the dumbest rule in college football. It should exist, but it should be a 15 yard penalty. It should also only result in an ejection if the hit is late imo.

Georgia should have the edge over Alabama in the playoff standings, in my opinion. Ohio State and Notre Dame should fill out the other two. Wisconsin hasn't played anyone yet, Miami FL hasn't been very convincing with a lot of close wins against mediocre teams, and Clemson's offense is a little questionable. Iowa State will likely be in the Top 15, and Arizona will be in the top 20, as the playoff committee has a recurring theme of two loss teams being much more highly rated than in Media and Coach polls (Iowa State is a top 15 team though, and the best two loss team in the nation). Finally, for the Group of Five slot for New Year's Six bowl games, it looks like Central Florida's to lose at this point, as they are the clear frontrunner for the spot, as South Florida was beaten by Houston yesterday. Michigan State's playoff hunt also came to an end after a loss to Northwestern

As for Heisman, here is my current rankings

1. Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
2. Bryce Love, RB, Stanford
3. Josh Adams, RB, Notre Dame
4. Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
5. Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State

Other Contenders:

JT Barrett, QB, Ohio State
Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State
Khalil Tate, QB, Arizona
Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
Will Grier, QB, West Virginia
Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
McKenzie Milton, QB, Central Florida

I know they haven't been posted yet but I have to say...

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK!?!?!?!!!

I can kind of get Georgia outranking Alabama and I kind of get Notre Dame outranking the two other undefeated team, but what I don't get is that they barely crack the top 10 and are outranked by FIVE other one loss teams (Although some of them are overall better teams).  Clemson loses to Syracuse and is in the final spot over Ohio State, Penn State, and Oklahoma

Wisconsin has the easiest schedule in the power 5 probably, they deserve their low ranking. Miami FL has played weak against mediocre teams, but find ways to win. They have Virginia Tech and Notre Dame back to back, so they need to REALLY step up their performance, cause despite their record, they don't hold a candle to Notre Dame, Clemson, etc. I think Iowa State should be a little higher too. Even if they have two losses, I can see them being better than several one loss teams. Clemson is understandable too, as they beat some pretty good opponents, with Virginia Tech being the best. Their loss to Syracuse was with a 3rd string QB, with the starter playing on a bad ankle when he was out there. If the get past NC State on Saturday, they should be in the clear. There is seven ranked game I believe, so it should be an insane day in college football. Notre Dame has also played a very tough schedule this year, and has beaten some quality teams thoroughly. Their only loss was a 1-point loss to the best team in the nation.

Ranked Game Picks:

Penn State 31 Michigan State 12
Stanford 27 Washington State 20
NC State 23 Clemson 21 (Going for the wham here)
Oklahoma 45 Oklahoma State 35
LSU 16 Alabama 14 (Please)
Virginia Tech 30 Miami FL 20
Arizona 33 USC 27

Upset Picks:

Texas A&M 24 Auburn 20
Indiana 13 Wisconsin 11

Game to Look Out For:

Ohio State at Iowa - The Hawkeyes have had close game with very good teams, the Buckeyes should pull this off, however an upset is not out of the question here

Iowa State at West Virginia - I REALLY want the Cyclone to win the Big 12, but they have a tough road ahead of them. The Mountaineers have been back and forth all year, but they should give Iowa State a rough match. If the Cyclones do win, their road doesn't get any easier, with Oklahoma State next in line

UCF at SMU - The Knights of Central Florida have done an amazing rebuild with a still pretty young team. However, this could be their toughest task yet. SMU is playing the best football they've have since they were assigned the death penalty in the late 80's. Central Florida will be storming into VERY hostile territory on Saturday, as it is also SMU's homecoming game. SMU also hung in with a very good TCU team until late in the game. If there were to be an undefeated team that loses this week, this is probably the most likely to happen. I see UCF barely pulling it off in a very close match.

2017 College Football Season Empty Re: 2017 College Football Season

Post by mtrimmer365 Wed Nov 08, 2017 5:00 pm

Yeah double post I'm sorry. Here is the Week 10 review and Week 11 preview

Week 10: Some very interesting things happened this week. I'll address the elephant in the room first: Iowa kicked the LIVING SHIT out of Ohio State by a whopping score of 55-24. I knew Iowa could have a chance to win, but I didn't expect THAT. Michigan State also beat Penn State 27-24, and now Sparty leads the Big Ten East. West Virginia also upset Iowa State 20-16. For other ranked games, Washington State beat Stanford 24-21, Clemson beat NC State 38-31, Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State 62-52 (lol Big 12 defense), Alabama beat LSU 24-10, Miami FL beat Virginia Tech 28-10, and USC beat Arizona 49-35.

Week 11 Ranked Game Picks:

Auburn 28 Georgia 27 - I think the Tigers barely pull it off in Jordan Hare. This is easily Georgia's toughest game until the Conference Championship

Alabama 38 Mississippi State 6 - I mean come on, there is no way Mississippi State is winning

Notre Dame 30 Miami FL 24 - Oh boy, this will be fun. Catholics VS Convicts returns with a riveting top 10 matchup with huge playoff implications. I think the Irish will barely pull it off.

Oklahoma 45 TCU 38 - Another Top 10 matchup with even more Big 12 "defenses". Baker Mayfield is too good, Sooners pull it off

Iowa 26 Wisconsin 21 - The Badgers will shit themselves when the face a team that actually has quality wins

Michigan State 28 Ohio State 25 - I'm neutral on this game and have no clue who to pick, so I might've just flipped a coin. This game is very 50/50

Iowa State 31 Oklahoma State 28 - I can never feel safe picking the Cowboys when the head to Ames as a quality team since 2011 (Oklahoma State was still the best team that year and should've been in the National Championship but the BCS wanted an All SEC title game)

Upset Picks:

Florida State 23 Clemson 21 - Seminoles end up shocking the Tigers

Stanford 27 Washington 24 - Cardinal got beat the hell up last year, this year I think things will be a little different....

Utah 30 Washington State 28 - The Cougars are still the worst 2 loss team in the country

Boston College 31 NC State 27 - Boston College is playing their best football since 2007 when they had Matt Ryan. NC State wasn't able to close out Clemson and gave the game up.

At this point, it is Baker Mayfield's Heisman Trophy to lose

This will be a fun week
