NASCAR implements new overtime rules...
...and this time, it may actually be a pretty good idea.

Here's basically what the new rules detail...
The jist of it is that every track will have an overtime line painted on it, probably around turn 3 or so. If the leader does NOT make it to the line before the caution comes out, it is not considered a valid GWC attempt, and they'll line them up and try again, and they'll keep trying until a valid attempt is achieved, in which the leader does cross the overtime line after the GWC restart. Once that happens, if the caution comes out at any point, the race is over.
Personally, I really like this new rule. It'll allow for a fair race for the win, and it'll prevent the kind of BS we saw at Talladega last year.
Good job, NASCAR. A few of your ideas this year have really sucked major ass, like expanding the Chase to the lower series and implementing perhaps the worst idea ever, the caution clock, but this idea is actually pretty damn good. I give it a thumbs up.
Now, if you'd just get rid of the damn Chase entirely, we'd be all set.

NASCAR wrote: NASCAR Overtime
For all three NASCAR national series, a race may be concluded with overtime, consisting of a new procedure for a green-white-checkered flag finish featuring an “overtime line.” The location of the overtime line will vary by track.
After taking the green on the overtime restart, if the leader then passes the overtime line on the first lap under green before a caution comes out (a “clean restart”), it will be considered a valid green-white-checkered attempt. However, if a caution comes out before the leader passes the overtime line on the first lap under green, it will not be considered a valid attempt, and a subsequent attempt will be made. If necessary, multiple subsequent attempts will be made until a valid attempt occurs.
Once a valid attempt is achieved (clean restart), it will become the only attempt at a green-white-checkered finish. If a caution comes out at any time during the valid green-white-checkered attempt, the field will be frozen and the checkered/yellow or checkered/red displayed to cars at the finish line.

This is a very good system. I'm actually quite excited to see how it works out!

I'm actually okay with this, then again I'm okay with anything that isn't like the total farce that we at Talladega last year.

Re: NASCAR implements new overtime rules...
A possibly good idea explained very poorly and made to sound more complicated than a DnD manual (used to play, haven't had a chance in years), except after reading the DnD manual, you don't feel like your intelligence is being insulted... I could elaborate but that's a different topic...
The overtime line needs to be painted on the track in a distinctive color (pink, green, whatever... just not yellow or white) so everyone (competitors and fans) knows where it is. Maybe they can also use it as the qualifying timing line, so someone can pit after finishing a qualifying lap a lot quicker a la what Indycar has done on the road courses.
It doesn't matter if they call it a green white checkered or NASCAR Overtime (what the hell), NFL fans aren't going to care about NASCAR.

It's a great idea, i don't think anyone want to see another Harvick 2.0 happening soon
