2015 Motorsports Predictions Empty Re: 2015 Motorsports Predictions

Post by day500champ1 Sat Jan 03, 2015 12:40 pm

Just going to do Cup for now.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

First-time winners: Kyle Larson
Most wins in a season: Carl Edwards (going with the trend of drivers switching times, Kenseth won 7 {i believe} and Harvick won 5 after their switches)
Upset of the year: Aric Almirola becomes the Michael Waltrip of the cup series by winning at Talladega.
Disappointments: Roush Fenway Racing (let's face it losing Edwards is going to hurt this team bigtime)
Best race of 2015: I'd say the Daytona 500, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bristol is the best too.
Worst race of 2015: More than likely Texas, both races.
Retirees at season end: If he wins the title, Jeff Gordon possibly. Other than that, none.
Driver of the year: Carl Edwards
Reject of the year: RFR
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Probably a low budget team driver.
Champion: Carl Edwards (see the pattern yet?)
Runner-up: Jimmie Johnson (as much as I don't like him, to think that Chad and him haven't figured out how to work this new format by now is bad)

I didn't do a prediction post this year, but I know I wouldn't have picked Dixon for the title. Probably would have picked Castroneves.

2015 Motorsports Predictions Empty Re: 2015 Motorsports Predictions

Post by SpeedDemon37 Tue Sep 15, 2015 1:31 am

Verizon IndyCar Series

First-time winners: Josef Newgarden
Correct (the first two, in fact)! Failed to predict Muñoz, however.

Most wins in a season: tie between Hélio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan
Scott Dixon wins the most races, with zero victories between Castroneves and Kanaan... was certainly not expecting that!

Upset of the year: Graham Rahal wins the second race of his Verizon IndyCar Series career
And also the third!

Disappointments: Power fails to defend title; not in contention at Sonoma
Correct in Power not winning the title, but he was very much in contention for it. I would not consider his effort to be a disappointment.

Best race of 2014: Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach; 99th Indianapolis 500; Pocono IndyCar 500 fueled by Sunoco
There were so many exciting races, but my personal favorite was the MAVTV 500 @ Auto Club Speedway.

Worst race of 2014: Firestone 600 (Texas Motor Speedway)
I thought that Texas was somewhat decent. NOLA wasn't much fun to watch, but primarily due to the weather. I think the Grand Prix of Indianapolis was the only other race that I would rank as the "worst", not because it wasn't captivating, but simply because the others were more so. IndyCar has produced very few low-quality races in recent years.

Retirees at season end: (unsure)
It appears that no one is planning to do so.

Driver of the year: Tony Kanaan; Simon Pagenaud
I would say Graham Rahal. I hope not to appear biased, but this was a huge turnaround year for him; he scored two victories and very nearly won the championship. Especially impressive was his speed in the early portion of the year, when the rest of the Hondas were generally struggling to compete with the Chevrolets.

Reject of the year: (unsure)
Still not quite certain. Not many full-time drivers were off the pace or made outrageously silly mistakes.

Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: (unsure, no one who is already confirmed to be racing)
No drivers lost their rides.

Champion: Tony Kanaan
Scott Dixon. Kanaan finishes 8th.

Runner-up: Hélio Castroneves
Juan Pablo Montoya. Castroneves finishes 5th.

Upset of the year: Jean-Eric Vergne wins his first IndyCar race Wishful thinking once again
Disappointments: Helio Castroneves, Houston not being on the calendar I guess Castroneves being a disappointment depends on your expectation of him being a title challenger
Best race of 2014: Indy 500 Fontana
Worst race of 2014: None NOLA
Retirees at season end: No idea Still the case
Driver of the year: Simon Pagenaud Yeah, no, Pags was one of the biggest disappointments. Rahal or possibly Dixon in actuality
Reject of the year: Graham Rahal So much for that. I'd give it to Castroneves or Team Penske as a whole for not winning since the Indy 500 and choking on the title despite being the most dominant team by far

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

First-time winners: Kyle Larson {If not for an ill timed yellow (thanks Nascar) @ Homestead this would have happened.}

Most wins in a season: Carl Edwards (going with the trend of drivers switching times, Kenseth won 7 {i believe} and Harvick won 5 after their switches) {He did win a couple of race (2), but that's it.}

Upset of the year: Aric Almirola becomes the Michael Waltrip of the cup series by winning at Talladega. {Where was he this year?}

Disappointments: Roush Fenway Racing (let's face it losing Edwards is going to hurt this team bigtime) {Correct on this.}

Best race of 2015: I'd say the Daytona 500, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bristol is the best too. {Depends, I said the 500 on my awards post, but you could make an argument for Darlington.}

Worst race of 2015: More than likely Texas, both races. {Aside from the last 12 laps of the Texas Chase race, this is pretty much right.}

Retirees at season end: If he wins the title, Jeff Gordon possibly.  Other than that, none. {No surprise here.}

Driver of the year: Carl Edwards {NOPE}

Reject of the year: RFR {YEP}

Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Probably a low budget team driver. {Bowyer and Allgaier, so I'd say I'm have right.}

Champion: Carl Edwards (see the pattern yet?) {No, his teammate beat him to it.}

Runner-up: Jimmie Johnson (as much as I don't like him, to think that Chad and him haven't figured out how to work this new format by now is bad) {Figures the one time I pick him to do well. No }

2015 Motorsports Predictions Empty Re: 2015 Motorsports Predictions

Post by SpeedDemon37 Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:04 am

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

First-time winners: Justin Boston; Spencer Gallagher; Erik Jones; Tyler Reddick
Correct on Reddick, but missed everyone else who won for the first time (Jones already had multiple wins, how on Earth did I forget that?)

Most wins in a season: Johnny Sauter
Matt Crafton wins the most races with six. Sauter scores a grand total of zero!

Upset of the year: NEMCO Motorsports wins multiple races
John Hunter came soooooo close, but at least they got one!

Disappointments: John Wes Townley
Honestly not sure why I picked him, and he certainly did not disappoint.

Best race of 2015: Atlanta 200; 1-800-CAR-CASH Mudsummer Classic; Chevy Silverado 250 (Canadian Tire); Fred's 250 (Talladega)
I would say Martinsville (Spring), Gateway, Eldora, Mosport, Las Vegas, and Talladega. There were a number of great races.

Worst race of 2015: UNOH 225 (Kentucky)
Probably Texas (Spring), but I'm honestly not quite sure.

Retirees at season end: Ron Hornaday, Jr.
Turns out that he never started a race... I was not aware of his plans not to race at all prior to the season.

Driver of the year: Justin Boston; Timothy Peters
I would say Erik Jones for winning the championship and Bobby Pierce for almost winning at Eldora with a Mittler Bros. truck. (That would be an unfortunate "no" for Boston, and Peters wasn't as good this year as a number of his opponents.)

Reject of the year: (unsure)
Not sure if there really was one.

Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: (unsure, lack of funding for one of the smaller teams)
Kyle Busch Motorsports is certainly no small team, and it turns out that Boston lost his ride less than ten races into the year.

Champion: Timothy Peters
Erik Jones. Peters finishes 5th.

Runner-up: Johnny Sauter
Tyler Reddick. Sauter finishes 4th.

------------------------------

ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards
(I have not been able to find many sources for who will be racing, so a lot of these predictions are assuming that certain 2014 drivers will return)

First-time winners: Austin Wayne Self; Josh Williams
Correct on Self, incorrect on Williams, and missed every other first-time winner.

Most wins in a season: Grant Enfinger
Correct! Enfinger scores a total of six victories (30% of the season).

Upset of the year: Clay Campbell wins at a superspeedway (specifically, Talladega)
Campbell, in fact, ended the day with his race car destroyed beyond repair. I would say that Todd Gilliland winning at Toledo was a major upset.

Disappointments: Team BCR cannot find enough funding to field Brennan Poole full-time
Correct in that BCR entirely withdrew their entry, and Poole ran part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for HScott Motorsports.

Best race of 2015: ARCA 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway
Of the races that aired on television, I would consider Toledo to have been the most exciting. LOR and Kansas would be honorable mentions.

Worst race of 2015: Kansas ARCA 150
Kansas turned out to be great! Of the races that aired on television, I would say Chicago.

Retirees at season end: (unsure)
I'm not sure where Bobby Hamilton, Jr. has been since he left Carter 2 Motorsports mid-season.

Driver of the year: Grant Enfinger; Brennan Poole
I would say that Enfinger was the driver of the year by virtue of winning the championship so convincingly.

Reject of the year: (unsure)
Not sure if there really was one.

Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: (unsure, lack of funding for one of the smaller teams)
Bobby Hamilton, Jr., as he would only race in the first half of the season.

Champion: Grant Enfinger
Correct!

Runner-up: Austin Wayne Self
Two-for-two in predicting the top two in points! Cool
