2018 Motorsports Predictions Empty Re: 2018 Motorsports Predictions

Post by SpeedDemon37 Mon Mar 05, 2018 12:16 am

Verizon IndyCar Series

First-time winners: Ed Jones (1)
Most wins in a season: Simon Pagenaud (3), Scott Dixon (3) (if I had to specify, Pagenaud would achieve this before Dixon)
Upset of the year: Both drivers of the Dale Coyne Racing car #19 each achieve one podium (may as well make this bold, I suppose)
Disappointments: Spencer Pigot does not achieve his first victory, in spite of performing well and contending for the win on multiple occasions
Best race of 2018: 102nd Indianapolis 500 (winner: James Hinchcliffe)
Worst race of 2018: Grand Prix of Sonoma (winner: Josef Newgarden)
Retirees at season end: Danica Patrick (obviously)
Driver of the year: Takuma Sato, continuing to perform and excel with the newly-upgraded car #30 for Rahal Letterman Lanigan in his first year with the team since 2012, managing to outscore all but Dixon on points; Honorable Mention goes to Scott Dixon for earning a fifth career title
Reject of the year: Unsure, although I don't think that any full-time drivers will meet this criteria
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: (no one will lose their ride)
Champion: Scott Dixon
Runner-up: Takuma Sato
Second Runner-up: Simon Pagenaud
Third Runner-up: Josef Newgarden
Fourth Runner-up: Graham Rahal

2018 Motorsports Predictions Empty Re: 2018 Motorsports Predictions

Post by f1fan12 Tue Mar 06, 2018 4:33 pm

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

First-time winners: Bubba Wallace, Alex Bowman, Chase Elliott
Most wins in a season: Kevin Harvick
Upset of the year: A Front Row Racing Car Wins Talladega again. Bubba Wallace wins the Daytona Summer race.
Disappointments: Hendrick Motorsports
Best race of 2018: Shockingly Indianapolis namely because of the stupidity of it is the chase deciding race.
Worst race of 2018: Charlotte Roval
Retirees at season end: N/A
Driver of the year: Kevin Harvick
Reject of the year: William Byron
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Insert Backmarker here
Champion:Jimmie Johnson grabs #8
Runner-up: Kevin Harvick

Verizon IndyCar Series

First-time winners: Robert Wickens, Ed Jones
Most wins in a season: Sebastien Bourdais
Upset of the year: James Hinchcliffe wins the Indianapolis 500 (Not really an upset, but still)
Disappointments: Zachary Claman DeMelo, Andretti Autosport doing nothing
Best race of 2018: Indianapolis
Worst race of 2018: Iowa (I know that we have a new car, but I still think Iowa will be the worst)
Retirees at season end: Danica Patrick
Driver of the year: Scott Dixon
Reject of the year: Zachary Claman DeMelo
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Zachary Claman DeMelo
Champion: Scott Dixon
Runner-up: Josef Newgarden

Formula One

First-time winners: Ocon/Perez (either)
Most wins in a season: Lewis Hamilton
Upset of the year: Force India (Or whatever they are going to call themselves) scores a 1-2 finish in a wet and wild Monaco Grand Prix. Runner Up, Toro Rosso doesn't suck with their Honda.
Disappointments: McLaren (again) (Renault proves to be iffy at best)
Best race of 2018: Monaco (I think if a Force India were to win any race, it would immediately qualify itself as the best race of the year)
Worst race of 2018: UGH... there are too many possibilities. I'll just say, Catalunya. Sochi could be close though
Retirees at season end: Alonso and Hamilton get tired of the recent stupidity of Formula One, and both leave for other racing endeavors. After Alonso's LeMans win, Alonso runs to IndyCar to pursue the Indianapolis 500. Hamilton becomes the Kardashian of Motorsports by showing up every once in a while to some race, namely NASCAR, and essentially draws all the media attention.
Driver of the year: Hamilton
Reject of the year: McLaren
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: N/A
Champion: Hamilton
Runner-up: Bottas

2018 Motorsports Predictions Empty Re: 2018 Motorsports Predictions

Post by SpeedDemon37 Sun Dec 16, 2018 11:19 pm

Verizon IndyCar Series

First-time winners: Ed Jones (1)
Incorrect; no one won for the first time.

Most wins in a season: Simon Pagenaud (3), Scott Dixon (3) (if I had to specify, Pagenaud would achieve this before Dixon)
Both incorrect and correct; Dixon (3) was correct, but Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi, and Will Power also won three races. Pagenaud didn't manage to win any races this year.

Upset of the year; Both drivers of the Dale Coyne Racing car #19 each achieve one podium (may as well make this bold, I suppose)
And much too bold, it was: Pietro Fittipaldi achieved a 9th-place finish at Portland as the season-best finish for the #19.

Disappointments: Spencer Pigot does not achieve his first victory, in spite of performing well and contending for the win on multiple occasions
Mostly correct; Pigot has improved every year, and a 2nd-place effort at Iowa was especially impressive.

Best race of 2018: 102nd Indianapolis 500 (winner: James Hinchcliffe)
ALLOW ME TO RIP THAT RUG OUT FROM UNDERNEATH YOU, MARCH OF 2018 ME...
In seriousness, personally, I'd say that Gateway provided the most entertaining race.

Worst race of 2018: Grand Prix of Sonoma (winner: Josef Newgarden)
Incorrect; personally, I'd say that Texas was the least eventful race (also, Hunter-Reay won the race at Sonoma).

Retirees at season end: Danica Patrick (obviously)
I suppose that that wasn't all that difficult to predict.

Incorrect; it took Sato a while to get acclimated to his new team, and said team did not have its greatest of seasons, anyway. I don't know whether this award should go to Alexander Rossi for driving on another level than the rest of the field and being able to execute both insanely aggressive maneuvers and disciplined strategy plans, Dixon for beating Rossi anyway, or Robert Wickens for being a weekly threat for the win in spite of having never before raced in IndyCar (or even the Road to Indy).

Reject of the year: Unsure, although I don't think that any full-time drivers will meet this criteria
I'm biased because I do not care for him in the slightest but Santino Ferrucci did make a fool of himself at Belle Isle in causing two silly (and dangerous), crashes in as many races.

Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: (no one will lose their ride)
Incorrect; Gabby Chaves sort of lost his ride in the Harding car #88. At the least, he lost his full-time status, and it appears that he won't be back with the team at all in 2019.

Champion: Scott Dixon
Correct; a well-deserved 5th championship goes to The Ice Man in a year in which he had to work hard for it. Alexander Rossi proved to be worthy competition, but Dixon held well under the pressure as always and got the job done. Three victories and only two finishes outside of the top six (not to mention a 3rd-place finish at the Indy 500) are quite reflective of his exceptional driving talent.

Runner-up: Takuma Sato
Incorrect; Alexander Rossi was ranked 2nd (Sato was ranked 12th)
Sato was not the regular contender that I thought he would be, but I expect that his results next year will be much improved.

Second Runner-up: Simon Pagenaud
Incorrect; Will Power was ranked 3rd (Pagenaud was ranked 6th)
Similarly to Sato, this year as a whole was much less successful for Pagenaud than what I had anticipated.

Third Runner-up: Josef Newgarden
Incorrect; Ryan Hunter-Reay was ranked 4th (Newgarden was ranked 5th)
It was a great year for Newgarden in his second season with Penske, just not quite a championship year.

Fourth Runner-up: Graham Rahal
Incorrect; Josef Newgarden was ranked 5th (Rahal was ranked 8th)
Aside from a few great runs here and there, Rahal's results were consistent, but average. The fact that his personal best race of the season (Detroit, Saturday) ended in a crash didn't help.
