Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
2015 Championship Soon to be Decided @ Berlin Raceway
It's championship weekend in the town of Marne, Michigan.
The AST Voltson Super Trucks, after a thrilling showdown in its first visit to the facility last September, will be returning to the Berlin Raceway to contest the final race of the 2015 season; the Voltson Marne 100. The challenging 7/16-mile short track has been renowned by fans and competitors for its unique characteristics and exciting racing, and to the delight of the local crowd, the Super Trucks will be headlining a series of races at the track on Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
The first running of the Voltson Marne 100 turned out to be one of the last year's most unpredictable races. Several cars fought for the lead throughout the event, but several of them were removed from contention by mechanical issues or accidents. The victory eventually went to Michael McKinley, who was one of two drivers who received a 25-point penalty for causing crashes during the race. The other recipient of a post-race penalty, runner-up Gordon Davis, lost the title as a result. With a mere 5 points more than Davis, Darrell Quick was awarded the championship trophy, and has enjoyed the title of defending series champion ever since.
This year, however, Quick is facing some fierce competition for the crown. The aforementioned Michael McKinley did not run the full schedule in 2014, but still won the final three races of the year, and the 30-year-old from Indiana has not disappointed in his first full-time campaign. Scoring two more wins and four pole positions, McKinley enters this weekend with a 44-point lead over Quick, a fairly substantial margin when one considers that the maximum points range for the upcoming race is 68. McKinley also enters the weekend as the most recent winner in the series, having taken victory at the Terre Haute Action Track two weekends ago.
The only other contender for the title may only have slim odds, but has also made headlines as part of the biggest surprise of 2015. Danny Vigo drives the #80 Saar, the full-time entry for the new team that has taken the series by storm; Operation JM. The team joined the Super Trucks this year after competing for several years at the Terre Haute Action Track, and won its first four races to begin the season, the first two coming from team boss and part-time racer Jason Miller and the second two from Vigo. Vigo would win again at Galesburg Speedway, and 17-year-old one off Camden Rhodes finished as the runner-up to McKinley in the series' most recent race at Terre Haute (a race in which Miller and Rhodes together led 43 of the 50 laps). With impressive talent and a successful team to go with it, he has become a weekly threat to win races.
Vigo enters with an attainable yet unfavorable 63 points to gain over McKinley. In order to surpass the #99M in the standings, he will have to score the victory and obtain bonus points (pole position, leading the most laps, and making up the most positions from the start each award 5 points). Even if Vigo achieves this, McKinley will have to be one of the last cars to finish the race, which may very well mean crashing or breaking down early on in the going. Vigo, however, is within much easier reach of second-place, as he is only 19 points behind Darrell Quick.
While there will be plenty of attention given to the championship contenders, they will certainly not be the only drivers to watch out for on Saturday. John White and Nancy Keith return to Berlin as the winners of last years' Heat races, and both of them lead several laps in the Feature. Jack Clark won the pole in 2014 and finished in fourth. Amberly Weiss was wrecked out of her Heat last year and failed to qualify, but with several good showings throughout 2015, the Team Michigan driver may have had speed last year that she was unable to show. Home Grown Racers joined the series only last month at Galesburg, but siblings Jeffer and Jenny Jackson will both be coming off of top 5 finishes at Terre Haute. Of course, past performance is not always an indicator of what is to come, and we may just as well see race-winning speed from a driver who hadn't found it in last year's event.
One can only make so many predictions in racing, however, before they are brought to the realization that the sport is unpredictable by nature; a fact which we are soon to be proven once again when the green flag flies on championship night.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
- 2015 Voltson Marne 100:
- The entry list for this year's running of the race is the same size as it was in 2014 (26 trucks). Therefore, the qualifying format to determine who starts the race and in what position will remain the same. Here is how the starting lineup for the Feature race will be determined:
--- Following time trial qualifying, the two fastest drivers will be locked into the race, and guaranteed front row starting positions.
--- Of the remaining 24 drivers, the 12 whose qualifying rank is an odd number will make up the starting grid for Heat 1. The 12 drivers whose qualifying rank is an even number will make up the starting grid for Heat 2. The top 9 finishers from each Heat transfer to the Feature, and will start in order of their Heat results (inside row for Heat 1, outside row for Heat 2).
--- Of the six drivers who fail to finish in the top 9, the driver with the fastest time trial qualifying time will transfer to the Feature and start from the 21st position.
--- All three championship title contenders (#80, #82, and #99M) will transfer to the feature regardless of their Heat results, and the cutoff position of 9th-place will be adjusted accordingly.
The only points that will be awarded before the Feature race begins are the standard 5 points that the winner of the pole award will earn.
------------------------------
Front Row Set for the Voltson Marne 100
Time trial qualifications to set the front row of the Feature and the starting grid for the Heats of the Voltson Marne 100 were completed earlier this afternoon at the Berlin Raceway.
The now-determined front row is looking to be one of the biggest pre-race storylines of the weekend thus far. Winning the pole position, and sending a message to his fellow title contenders, is the defending AST Voltson Super Trucks champion Darrell Quick. With a fastest lap time of 15.149 seconds, the 44-year old Michigan short track veteran will secure 5 bonus points towards his efforts to defend his title, and reduces his points deficit to 39. It may not be much of a surprise to see truck #82 earn the top starting spot; Quick also locked himself into last year’s race with a 2nd-place qualifying effort, and scored two other pole positions this year. One cannot disregard the consistently good finishes that have put him into title contention for the second consecutive year, either.
As for Quick’s points rivals, Danny Vigo will start from the fourth position in Heat 2 after setting the 10th-fastest lap time, but there is a big surprise in the qualifying efforts of Michael McKinley. Being the points leader and the defending winner of the race, many expected truck #99M to contend for the pole, but he will be starting Heat 1 from 10th-place after ranking 21st in time trials of the 26 entrants. While the title contenders are all guaranteed starting spots in the Feature, McKinley will have to start from the back of the grid if he is unable to finish well in his Heat.
The shock of the driver who qualified on the outside of the front row has nothing to do with the fight for the title. Kevin Thompson took the occupants of the Berlin Raceway by surprise when he set a lap time of 15.184 seconds (0.035 seconds slower than Quick) and earned a starting spot to the outside of the #82 truck. Thompson has earned four top 10 finishes in 18 career starts, with a best finish of 4th-place coming at the Toledo Speedway last June. Thompson showed impressive speed last month at Galesburg Speedway by running up front and even taking the lead in the mid-stages of the event, but he would eventually fall outside the top 10 in that race, as well. The Port Huron Dirt Coliseum racer was hardly considered a contender for the front row, but it now looks as if he has the ability to turn tonight’s race into his best career performance.
With the 3rd-fastest lap time, Hunter Blaize will lead the field to the start of Heat 1. The #6 of Bryan Kelly also surprised his competitors by setting the 4th-fastest time, and he will lead the field to the start of Heat 2. Kelly will be making just his second career start in the Feature. As he has the fastest qualifying time of any driver in his Heat, Kelly is essentially locked in to the Feature, and likewise for Blaize. Â However, their starting position is still determined by their Heat results.
The two Heats for the AST Voltson Super Trucks season finale will kick off tonight’s series of races at the Berlin Raceway later in the evening.

- Events That Were Not Covered:
- (OOC: I apologize for somehow failing to cover this incident; I have no idea how I went without noticing it until after the video was completed. )
On lap 26, while racing back to the line to take the caution, Mary Brissot hooked the left-rear of the truck of Ronald Way and spun him onto the apron. The #69 would slide back up the track in turn 3 and right across the path of Allison Ashburn, who was put into the outside wall (in similar fashion to when Kevin Thompson was spun into her path on lap 11). Ashburn would be forced to retire from the race as a result of the damage that her truck sustained.

- (OOC: I realized that Score4 has been calculating the two Jackson's as if they were a single driver. I have manually calculated their individual points, and rearranged the standings and all of the statistics that were affected (including changes in rank from the post-Race #9 standings for each driver). The standings that are in the posts in this thread for Races #7-9 are therefore incorrect, but as far as I'm aware, the chart below is 100% accurate. I checked my math numerous times, but if there are any errors then please let me know! I will make sure that this problem will not occur again.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
I will be "officially" opening entries for the 2016 season sometime within a week from now, by which I mean that I will create a TMpedia page in which to add an accepted team chart, and I also need to edit the original post in this thread. There will be virtually no changes to the entry template, though, so if you wish to post entries and/or silly season news now then you may feel free to do so (the above entries can be considered accepted)! I will determine a due date for submitting cars later in the offseason, so there is no need to worry about any deadlines.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
Entries (full-time and part-time) for the 2016 season are now officially open! The original post has been edited and the TMpedia page has been created. As mentioned previously, I will determine the deadline for submitting entries well in advance of the actual date. I will most likely set that date for a day in January, so there is no need to worry about any deadlines for the time being.
TMpedia page for the 2016 season
Here are the notable changes that were made to the original post (little else of significance was modified):
There has been the addition of one approved manufacturer to the original two, and two of the ten races on the schedule have yet to be determined (they are both extremely likely to be on short tracks). Therefore, if you wish to change the manufacturer and/or the scheduled races of your entry once it has been accepted, then you may feel free to edit the TMpedia page (or ask that I do so for you if you do not have a TMpedia account)!

Once your entry is added to the TMpedia chart, you are free to modify your own entry on said chart, including driver schedules for any races that have yet to be run.
If you wish to submit a car that has already been used for another TM-canon series that uses either the ASA Speed Trucks mod or the Project Wildfire CTS mod (both mods use identical bodies), then you may do so as well.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
Binford team owner talks about a series first
In the two years that the AST Voltson Truck Series has been around, nobody has ever seen two drivers share the same car and be a full time entry. Al Taylor said that if the series allows the car to share points, both drivers (Bryan Kelly and Amy Robinson) will take credit for the championship, if it happens. Though he has no problems if they get scored individually.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
The official due date for submitting your full-time trucks and ratings for the 2016 season is Monday, January 18, approximately one month from today. Full-time signups will remain open until then, but part-time signups will be open throughout the season.
Also, the Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan will return to host the 5th race of the season, just as it has for the previous two years. The venue for Race 8 will be determined in the near future.

These entries can be considered accepted. Hopefully TMpedia will return to normal shortly, and until then I have created a page on the abandoned shoutwiki for the sake of being able to look at it on an application other than Word. Again, I am hoping for this to be temporary.Dexter249 wrote:Driver Name: Juan Cortez

New Dirt Track Added to 2016 Calendar
13 January 2016
The schedule for the 2016 edition of the AST Voltson Super Trucks has officially been released. The 10-race season will remain largely unchanged from the year before, but once again there is one new venue that will be hosting its first race for the Great Lakes Basin pickup truck racing series.
The DuQuoin State Fairgrounds has been confirmed to host the eighth race of the championship with a 50-lap event in mid-August. The speedway located on the grounds of the facility is a low-banked, one-mile, symmetrical oval that is paved with clay. Having hosted automobile racing since 1946, the track will become the oldest venue to host an AST Voltson Super Trucks race. The oldest track on the schedule was previously the Galesburg Speedway, which has hosted auto racing since 1948.
The addition of DuQuoin also marks the first time that the Super Trucks will visit the state of Illinois. At one mile in length, it will be the second-to longest oval on the schedule (but still just short enough to be considered as a short track). The track is twice the length of the half-milers that are the third-to-largest ovals in the series, but still only half the length of the Michigan International Speedway. Racing on the dirt at such high speeds should provide a challenge for the racers and their teams that they would not see at either Winston Speedway nor Terre Haute Action Track, the two dirt tracks that have hosted one race each for the first two seasons and are set to return again this year.
The schedule for the upcoming ASTVST season now consists of one speedway, one road course, five short tracks, and three dirt tracks. With Race 8 being hosted by DuQuoin and Race 9 by Terre Haute, the season finale at Berlin Raceway will now be preceded by two dirt tracks. Any teams that manage to find an edge on the unpaved tracks could have the potential to cause a major shift in the fight for the championship late in the season, and as the first two years of competition have shown, the series has attracted more than a few dirt racing veterens.
The 2016 season of the AST Voltson Super Trucks is scheduled to begin on Memorial Day weekend with the third running of the Saar Nebraska 100 at the Michigan International Speedway.

Full-time signups for the 2016 season are now closed, but as always, part-time signups will remain open throughout the year!
I am currently in need of only the #53 truck for Cobalt Motorsports. If I can receive at least its ratings within the near future, then I will be ready to officially begin the new season!

It was announced Wednesday that they're unable to get the Lycoia branding in time, leading them to use the new Isanni that was announced this year.
They're expecting to show up for the Ohio tour.

When it comes to video editing, my knowledge (as well as my options) is rather limited. I know that some of the promos for the other series here look nicer, but I think that it turned out all right!

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
Thirty-Three Cars to Race in Season-Opener @ MIS
28 May 2016
The drivers, teams, and fans of the AST Voltson Super Trucks have come to the Irish Hills to take part in the action and the excitement that the pickup truck racing league brings with it. For the third consecutive year, the series pays a visit to the Michigan International Speedway on Memorial Day weekend for a 50-lap race to open the season; the Saar Nebraska 100.
The entry list for this year's running has set a record for the largest that the series has ever seen, as 33 trucks are set to take the start. This breaks the previous record of 30 trucks that started this very race in 2014; the Voltson Super Trucks' first ever event.
Despite the diverse racing backgrounds and levels of experience among the drivers, the field was separated by a mere 0.605 seconds. Leading the field to the green flag will be a very familiar name, as Michael McKinley set a time of 38.109 seconds, earning him the pole position for the second year in a row. The Bloomington, Indiana driver went on to finish 2nd in the race last year, losing the event by half-of-a-car-length to Jason Miller in the league's closest finish to date. McKinley already held the series record for the most race victories and pole positions before this weekend, and has now increased his pole award count to seven.
On the outside of the front row is another 31-year-old who has proven himself to be an exceptional qualifier; Troy, Michigan's Chase Eberhardt. Eberhardt has two pole positions to his own name, as well as a race victory at his home racetrack of the Kalamazoo Speedway. The rest of the top five qualifiers consist of Gordon Davis, the 2014 championship runner-up who will once again be running a very limited schedule, Daynella Jacobson, the fifteen-year-old sophomore racer for Team Michigan, and Wilson Timothy, another second-year racer who formerly competed in the FARC Regional Cup.
Other drivers of note include 2014 Saar Nebraska 100 pole-sitter and race-winner Darrell Quick, who of course enters this season as the two-time defending champion. Quick qualified down the order in 23rd, while Jason Miller, after starting on the front row and winning the race in 2015, qualified very poorly and will start in 29th. One of Miller's Operation JM teammates and employees Danny Vigo qualified in 10th, while the other, 18-year-old rookie Camden Rhodes, will round out the field.
Green Bay, Wisconsin's Carl Gargulak was the fastest qualifier of the one-off drivers, but will only be starting in 17th-place, at the halfway point of the field. The other two MIS-only drivers, Larry Kowalczyk and Conner Koda, qualified far down in 30th and 32nd, respectively.

Thanks! I'm not sure as to why, but I think that it turned out to be my favorite video.

- 2016 Race 1 - Post-Race Press Release:
- No Penalties Dealt For Incidents @ MIS
30 May 2016
Despite numerous incidents that occurred during the race, no penalties were dealt following the season-opening Saar Nebraska 100.
At least three definable incidents involving collisions between trucks occurred during the first five laps of the event. On lap 2, Jeffer Jackson made contact with Danny Vigo and sparked a multi-car crash off of turn 4. During the subsequent caution, Kathy Gargulak collided with Jason Miller in the pit lane as Gargulak exited her pit stall. Seconds later, Michael McKinley crashed into the inside wall while exiting the pits and rejoining the racetrack, collecting three other trucks in doing so.
The accidents initiated by Jackson and McKinley were determined to have been normal incidents due to driver error. Gargulak and the #30 team were both given a warning, but received no points nor grid penalties. Officials considered the lack of experience in making live pit stops among the field of semi-professional short track racers in deciding not to issue any penalties.
One more incident would occur after the restart, on lap 14. While trying to pass the damaged lapped truck of Daynella Jacobson, Juan Cortez slowed and then moved up into the path of Larry Kowalczyk, causing a crash that involved nine trucks and eliminated four of them. Darrell Quick and Jason Miller, who are the only two drivers who entered the race as past winners of the event, were involved in a head-on collision at high speed. Fortunately, both drivers were uninjured, and will be present at the Flat Rock 100.
Cortez was also given a warning for his maneuver, but nothing more. Officials reportedly decided against dealing a penalty to the rookie driver considering his lack of previous experience in speedway racing.
The AST Voltson Super Trucks will not see action for another three weeks, when the second race of 2016 takes place at the Flat Rock Speedway, perhaps the most anticipated short track on the schedule.

I am currently in need of only the #53 truck for Cobalt Motorsports. If I can receive at least its ratings within the near future, then I will be ready to officially begin the new season!
Are there any part-time rides left?

For this series you may enter your own ride (team and driver). One must fill out the signup sheet located in the original post, and if I decide to add the entry to the team chart on this page, then the entry is considered official.Persona40 wrote:SpeedDemon37 wrote:Full-time signups for the 2016 season are now closed, but as always, part-time signups will remain open throughout the year!

Only once the entry is official may you either submit your own car file or request one to be made for you in the Request Line.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks
My personal schedule will not allow me to run race three of 2016 until the weekend of the 29th, about two weeks from now. Trucks #53 and #87 have until then to be submitted, but if I can receive at least their ratings then I would be more than happy to paint them, myself!
Also, the semester will be complete by the time that May begins, so I will have time to produce videos on a more regular basis!

The race at Toledo will be run on Monday. If trucks #53 and #87 will be participating then I will need their ratings by then.
