Isn't it like the 18th coup in 80 years? Something like that right?
I believe it's somewhere around there, I know that the government has been successfully overthrown 10 times and that this is the king's 16th during his reign.

I've discovered that a lot of my friends have apparently been to races at Belle Isle before. Considering how far away from Detroit we are (and how no one that I know follows IndyCar, as far as I'm aware), I found that surprising.
I have yet to find someone that has been to an IndyCar race at MIS, though. I would have loved to have seen one of those.

I don't remember that much about. But, I went to one I believe in either 98-99-00. I was 10 years old or younger at the time, but I remember going to MIS.
What's funny is I'm closer to Belle Isle and downtown Detroit, yet haven't been to the races. But I did go to MIS in June of 2005 for the Cup race, and MIS is further away.

I went to MIS the year the Cup race got rained out until Tuesday. Needless to say, I didn't actually see any racing.

Rain was one of our biggest fears when we went to the races at MIS last June, and we actually felt a few drops during the Nationwide race. Fortunately, we were able to dodge the weather.Rykia_RKXK wrote:day500champ1 wrote:SpeedDemon37 wrote:I've discovered that a lot of my friends have apparently been to races at Belle Isle before. I know the average age on this forum is pretty low, and I'm not really posting around much, but I still feel like I should share this with you guys. Today I popped the question to my girlfriend of 7 years on the top of a volcano! And she said yes!

The original plan was to do it in front of a tornado, so we've been on a storm chasing vacation since friday. But it doesn't look like there is going to be any more tornado weather within driving distance, so I decided that a volcano was interesting enough, lolSparkz47 wrote:Mystrsyko wrote:I know the average age on this forum is pretty low, and I'm not really posting around much, but I still feel like I should share this with you guys. So it appears Tom Pryce is today's featured Wikipedia article. Pryce was a talented driver who was taken far too soon in a tragic accident which also took the life of a marshal.

And also, today is exactly the day 59 years ago when one of the deadliest crashes occurred during the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours, when Pierre Levegh's Mercedes was launched into the crowd after making contact with another competitor, killing himself and around 80 spectators.

As of a minute or so ago, my grandfather who had been in the hospital for the past couple of weeks because of a brain aneurysm has been taken off of his equipment. Don't know when he'll pass but it will likely be sometime today.

Re: Random Discussion Thread
Does anyone else on here use darcyf1.com to view all clips, highlights & even full races? I joined in March to download clips for my video compilations, but have become more interested in the sight for a few of reasons.
1. F1 videos can be uploaded without a problem, so anyone can view moments from each race (provided someone uploads them).
2. They have clips from nearly every motorsport running this year (though the lesser known ones are considered miscellaneous).
3. Collectors Cards. Yes, they have collectors cards specifically for the sight, & I've been trying to collect them like crazy. They are very good cards as well.

In a few more days I'll be leaving for a three-week vacation. Part of that time will be spent close enough to the Norway Speedway to hear the cars. I'm hoping that I can go see some Friday night races there; I haven't been able to in a couple of years!
I recently found this picture of 30 of the track regulars' cars from when it was paved with dirt in the 1970's. My dad has told me all about them, but I've never been able to find pictures of practically any of these cars before! The Iverson's and Gene Coleman are considered to be regional legends. I believe that I've mentioned before that I've watched Gene Coleman race in person (and win), as well as the younger Jamie Iverson.

I was finally approaching the end of the final hours of this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans (I managed to record almost all of it) on my DVR today. It turns out that the last 1 hour 25 minutes and 8 seconds of the race failed to record for some reason.
That was slightly upsetting.
