2013 Ford EcoBoost 400 - Sprint Cup Series
This is it. After 35 races, it all comes down to this. Jimmie Johnson can clinch his 6th series championship with a 23rd place finish or better. Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick are gonna need major help in order for them to pull off the upset here at Homestead-Miami. What will happen Sunday? Who will win the championship (Despite the fact that we all know who's gonna win it)?

Re: 2013 Ford EcoBoost 400 - Sprint Cup Series
In my opinion, the only thug that will prevent Jimmie Johnson from a 6th title is if a BK Racing car wrecks him when lapping them. I still can't get over how much the 20 team threw most of their chances away at Phoenix, so I have to say that even though Jimmie isn't that great at Homestead, he's won on every different type of track this year except the Road Courses.

The only reason he has never won at Homestead is because he hasn't had to. Most of the time he would enter Homestead and only have to ride around the entire race, and this year will be no exception.BWardboy88 wrote:In my opinion, the only thug that will prevent Jimmie Johnson from a 6th title is if a BK Racing car wrecks him when lapping them. Rumor has it the 48 team is bringing one of the faster cars to Homestead. Risky? Maybe....?

If that's the case, then the thinking here is simple: "If we're up front the entire race, nothing bad can possibly happen to us!"Alta wrote:Rumor has it the 48 team is bringing one of the faster cars to Homestead. Risky? Maybe....?
Aside from weary backmarkers who are in the back for a reason, that's actually smart thinking. If you're up front, you won't be at risk like you would be if you were in the middle of the field, surrounded by other cars.

So I just heard that Donovan McNabb said that Jimmie Johnson isn't an athlete on FS1...

Heard that too. Guy comes off to me as some washed up has-been who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. I never liked this guy the first time I saw him when FS1 first started and this commit just further confirms my severe dislike for him. Until he's done even a tiny bit of what Jimmie does every week, then he's not qualified to determine if Jimmie is an athlete.RealRacer4 wrote:So I just heard that Donovan McNabb said that Jimmie Johnson isn't an athlete on FS1...

He definitely had some legitimate prowess at quarterback. A never was wouldn't be a 6 time pro-bowler who led the Eagles to their second Super Bowl appearance. Based on his comments, he is definitely just a has been.navycook75 wrote:He's not a has been.RACECAR wrote:Heard that too. Racing is one of the last pure sports. The concept is simple...first guy to the finish wins. Accomplishing that requires incredible physical and mental strength. You have to consider when the brake, when to accelerate, your oil temperature, how much fuel you have, your tires, the position of other cars. All of this while operating a vehicle at speeds so high that the g-forces make it as physically challenging as the most rigorous day in the weight room. Also there is the risk involved. If you make a mistake in football, you loose some yards and maybe get a bad reputation among your team. If you mess up in baseball, you strike out. If you mess up in soccer, your team might loose the ball. If you mess up in racing, you can kill someone or yourself. And as Ernst Hemmingway said, "there are only three true sports: mountain climbing, bull fighting, and automobile racing. All the rest are merely games."

Good job Jimmie. The best driver won the championship in the end. You could see Kenseth was giving it all at the end, and I think that's very admirable, but it was out of his control in this race.

My reaction:navycook75 wrote:Good Championship Jimmie!
This weekend of racing was actually pretty good, and we had a pretty damn good championship battle in the Nationwide Series as well. We had our first champion who completed every lap of the season. We had our first winless champion. And Johnson wins his 6th title, although I don't really care for that anymore, TBH. GG, let's move on to next season.
This season saw a slight improvement as far as entertainment value compared to last season, but that's not really saying much.
The 2013 Ford EcoBoost 400 @ Homestead gets a 6.5/10.

Wow 6 Championships! Kenseth put up a heck of a fight and showed great sportsmanship throughout. Pretty good Chase overall.

At the end of the day, Jimmie was the only one who deserved the championship. Kenseth blew his chance at Phoenix, and Harvick simply wasn't competitive enough against either the 20 or 48. Here's to another year of NASCAR coming to a close, and to another in 2014!

I'm not a Jimmie fan, but Congrats on your 6th! title.
Great run by Junebug, hopefully he continues in 2014.
He would of likely finished 2nd in points if Chicagoland didn't happened.
Congrats Kenseth on his best year in NASCAR, came so close, BUT in the last couple years, whoever finishes 2nd in points has a bad year the next year. That is kinda scary

HAMLIN MAKES THE CHASE!...or not. Jimmie wins...it's acceptance at this point. Menard BLOWS SKY HIGH!....at least The wheel did. That was some season!...you can debate on that all you want lol. All that and you get Nascar season finale!
And we're clear!

If only Jimmie's tire had kerploded instead, then I would have been happy. (Insert joke about Hendrick Motorsports putting a bomb in the 27's tire in an attempt to blackmail Menard into taking out the 20 that will be taken as if I legitimately believe that occurred by you guys here)

Dillon beats Hornish, and Johnson beats Kenseth. It's been a very disappointing weekend in racing for me, though I can't say I wasn't expecting it. Hopefully next year's racing will be better... somehow.

Found the race really entertaining. Not the best Ford 400, but it held my attention (when I wasn't losing my Dish connection thanks to omgtornadoze). GC Jimmie, now go for eight.
