I thought F1 was doing away with the stepped noses. I guess I was wrong.

Well it's still belongs on the track though.

Ferrari haven't released their car yet, but they have given it a name for the 2013 season.

I think it still has the same looks as last year, but it's still a great looking car.

The only dramatic difference. Formula One is down to the fine details, I'm sure they've amended many other components of the car.

Re: F1 2013 car launch thread
The suspension on the front is different, and according to rumors, McLaren actually do have a stepped nose, but they have a modesty panel over it. Can't remember exactly why, but it has something to do with the height of the chassis could be higher when the car is in motion.

Some friends at Ferrari have mentioned they have placed a modesty panel over the ridiculously named "F138". I'm not allowed to know anything else however.

Re: F1 2013 car launch thread
F138 isn't as ridiculously named as you might think. The "13" signifies 2013 and the 8 signifies the last season (in the foreseeable future) that F1 will use 8 cylinder engines.

Yes, I am aware of this. However, in reference to the past 4 chassis it is an unconventional name; F2012, F150, F10, F60.

It'll be another 4 days until Jules Bianchi is announced as the 2nd driver of Force India. Until then, it is the single incomplete seat for 2013 when Razia is announced as Second Driver at Marussia later today.

Interesting nose on the Merc. I like the look of the Marussia but it'll have the grip of a Ford Escort.

It should also be noted that James Rossiter is testing the Force India today. Maybe a drive is in the works?

I don't think so. If anyone will be signing for the 2nd seat at Force India, it will be Bianchi or Sutil. An outsider is Bruno. Rossiter has already been confirmed as the teams test and simulator driver in any case.

Bruno is a no-go, he's signed for Aston Martin in sportscars. And given that Bianchi will also be testing the Force India, I think that makes him the heavy favourite for the 2nd seat.

Re: F1 2013 car launch thread
Shit, didn't hear he moved to the WEC, and I think that means any chance of making it back to Formula One is over. A good thing I believe, endurance racing will suit him; he's very consistent, very intelligent (mostly).
Of course, Bianchi is testing as well and considering his age + backing from Ferrari, I wouldn't understand why they wouldn't choose him. To be honest, they've made a good decision to hold off signing their second driver. They have the ability to question the ability of Bianchi before properly setting a deal in concrete. Although I still don't understand why Sutil hasn't been considered. Apart from his bar fight, I don't think he has done much wrong through his career and he has been quite quick-2008 Monaco GP was going well, until a flying finn depositioned him from a 5th place.

Well for once it wasn't a driver error, a reported brake issue with the car is what caused Hamilton to have his crash.

It was actually 4th place, and Sutil would have lost that 4th place anyway because he passed a few people under yellow flags.

It would definitely place on the Top 10 ugliest F1 cars, but I don't think it can get much worse than the Ligier JS5, the Theodore used in 1982 or the Ensign 179

Supposedly the tires are dropping off by 5 seconds/lap within 10 minutes of testing.
