Sonic MyDVD Plus

This keeps trying to load onto my computer using Windows Installer in the pop up. I looked it up and it looks like a legit product that's actually for sale, but it's acting like a one of those virus deals. Any idea how to safely get rid of it? I thought about emptying my Windows internet temporary folder.

This thing pops up every minute or so and I keep canceling it.

Any help?

When is it trying to start? When your computer starts up?

If so, you should get something that can alter what boots when your computer starts up (Spybot works well for this).

The good news is that it's not a virus!

It basically started with this:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

as if it's looking for an update-- which I didn't initiate whatsoever.

Then I'm asked to "Click OK to try again", but I just clicked "cancel" about 6 times before it'll go away. But that does nothing and it simply restarts the process a couple of minutes later.

I found a couple of sites that recommended me to do this;

You're getting errors when you start your computer because your startup menu is looking for a program that is no longer there. To remove that error you'll have to remove it from your startup. To do this you go to start, run, then type msconfig and hit enter. System Configuration Utility should come up. Click on the startup tab and if your running Windows XP you can uncheck everything there to make your computer boot faster. But if you only want to get rid of that program look for something that has that path or name "MyDVD" or something like that. There may be more then one checkmark to remove. After you remove them click OK then you will be asked to reboot the computer.

Couldn't find any such file name so I disabled everything and rebooted-- which worked, but now my paint program keeps crashing and now I'm getting additional error messages on occasion like "this script has stopped working" and other stuff. Why something on startup is affecting my paint program is beyond me. Once, it suddenly shut down my PSP 10 and saved a PSD template I was working on as a flat! I haven't done those 2 links that were suggested yet as I was just happy the thing quit popping up and wasn't sure if I needed to.

Why that particular program is "no longer there" is a mystery to me-- I haven't deleted or uninstalled anything at all.

My hard drive crashed Sunday before last and just got it back today. I also went on vacation last Tuesday and hoped it would have been done when I returned but it wasn't. I'm exploring the possibility of sending my hard drive off to see what can be recovered because I didn't back up anything. I'm considering hanging up the brushes or just not even loading my paint program back on my computer at all.

I sure hope you can get your hard drive fixed, Snake. It would stink to not be able see your cars.

Possible good news on the recovery front: I took a break at work and stopped by another computer repair place and they said that they might be able to recover most of my stuff at a fair price. It almost made me want load my PSP back on, but I'm going to wait and see how things go before getting my hopes up. But at least I have some hope and am praying for a favorable outcome!

Went to the other computer guy today and... Good News!!!!!!!!!!!

All my stuff is going to be salvageable! Yeah!!!!! Rule of thumb: Always seek a 2nd opinion!
