If this was before 2012, I would agree with what you're saying. But the way he's been this year, he has actually been keeping his nose clean. I don't think he would be a contender for the win, but definitely has a chance of getting in the top 5 or top 10.

And no, I don't have any plans on rolling the dice for any of the races coming up this weekend, but I'll definitely be playing in the upcoming events.

After rolling 5 times, I ended up with 26 (Marco Andretti). Being that he was the defending winner of last year, I'm okay with this.

Comparatively, yes. He's still got a few blots on his copybook (he apparently wrecked Tag at Long Beach) this year, but I'm very impressed with his improvement overall.

I smell a first win for the mayor of Hinchtown coming up soon. I want him to win the title so bad this year because he's driving what last year was the Danicamobile...

I think Hinch, along with the entire Andretti team, is in one of those situations where four cars just wasn't working for them, sure they had three drivers win last year, but two of those drivers DNQ'd for Indy. Cutting back to three is gonna make them real competitors this year.

Rules for the qual heat Races

30 Laps
Qualification groups will be determined by lap times recorded by entries on the .875-mile oval in the second (45-minute) practice session (3:30 p.m. ET).

Race 1 will consist of the even-numbered positions, starting with the 10th-quickest practice time, and determine the even-numbered positions in the starting field from 10th down.

Race 2 will consist of the odd-numbered positions, starting with the ninth-quickest practice time, and determine the odd-numbered positions in the starting field from ninth down.

Race 3 will consist of drivers ranked one through eight from the practice. Results of Race 3 will determine the first four rows, with the winner taking the pole position.

Each race is projected for 12-14 minutes duration. Cars will carry about one-third of the E85 fuel load, which shouldn’t impact tire wear or the car’s consistency with its maximum 37-degree rear wing flap angle on the compound banking.

3 things:

1) I understand the time limit, that's something it's always been done to move things along. Are they counting any caution laps?

2) I'm not crazy about everyone trimmed down to 1/3 of fuel load, but I guess I'm okay with the idea of leveling the playing field.

3) Seeing how the drivers will be lined up in each heat race makes me feel like I'm getting kicked from behind. Whatever 3 drivers are the fastest should be divided up into the 3 heat races, as for the next 3 fastest drivers and so on. That's how heat races are usually determined, unless they're pill-drawn. It'll make things more unpredictable, at least that's how it usually is for local drivers, like myself and others around here.

Meanwhile, my fantasy team on indycar.com has almost totally failed. There's a 50 point penalty for each driver that does not finish, and I have Power, Brisoce, Servia, and Hildebrand on my team. Need Barrichello to do something big.

Crazy race. A whole lot of entertainment in this one. Needless to say the points will probably be extremely tight.

GW Hunter-Reay, Proving that he is a legitimate title contender with back-to-back victories. Great runs for Pagenaud and Barichello. Fun stuff.
